prime numbers highlight the most hyped trus me track from his >treat me right< album released earlier this year. somebody is an insistent, throbbing production championed by many a dj in 2013 including daniel bell, mcde, deetron, ben klock, bicep, nina kraviz & guy gerber. hypnotic acid bass pulses under shifting cymbals & claps with jacked-up, penetrating snare breakdowns. simple, classic & effective. following his recent excursion on the ann aimee imprint mosca remixes for the flip. dropping the tempo he indulges in a burning bass heavy affair, stripping the minimal original even further back & subtly crafting the parts to create a spacious, heads-down groove. a masterful rework indeed.

following the release of his debut album home & garden, jay shepheard returns to his own retrofit imprint to present the albums remix ep. label friends locked groove and jacques renault remix two much love and type one a respectively, while jay takes the reins himself to rework 48 stacey and orbis tertius.

having previously reissued *i want you to know*, the 1991 gem from simonellis groove committee project, deep down slam now return with a remix package. leading the way is italian house producer nicholas in collaboration with marcoradi, with the original s vibe very much intact but complemented by some fresh new beats and arrangement. the second remix comes from french house producer dj steaw who brings the usual quality and gives the remix the classic steaw touch we re used to know. zurich based italian producer demetrio giannice conjures the spirit of vintage tom moulton on his remix and deep down slam have also included simonellis original bonus beats version from 1991 that was mastered by legendary nyc mastering engineer rick essig.

efficient, pure bass-line techno jacker

maya jane coles, londons queen of the underground, turns in two stellar versions that take the vocal hook and attitude of the original and rework them into hypnotic deep house anthems.

first remix was done by mr raoul k who is well known for his productions that mixes original african instruments with techno and deep house. his releases spreaded his unique sound over the world with great acclaim from gilles peterson, joe claussel and many other djs. his 12 min epic rework is full of psychedelic elements, hypnotic grooves and african percussions. gilles peterson already supported this one on his worldwide show.

so here i am, happily an album older, introducing the first of adamants remix packages. since the whole project was, generally speaking, a personal affair and a lot of the album was not necessarily club-ready (does that even make sense?), we invited our friends on board to do the dirty deeds for me and rework my sounds into something normal people can dance to. first up are mind against.

in the 1970s the american composer henry flynt started a series of pieces under the title >new american ethnic music<. in so doing he worked together native styles of music such as blues, country or hillbilly with electronic production methods to make something altogether new. so far in germany it has never been attempted to rework folklore electronically for a compilation. however, this picture changes if one redefines the idea of who the population is. incomers have brought new >national anthems< to germany, which means - even the portuguese fado, the african gnawa, the croatian klapa or the vietnamese quan ho are these days at home in germany. with the cultural project >heimatlieder aus deutschland< (native songs from germany) founded by former spex editor mark terkessidis and label manager jochen kühling all the various styles of traditional folk music now found in germany has been collected. thirteen of the songs recorded for the project have now been transformed by contemporary electronic producers to present a >new german ethnic music<. but why remixes? for one thing electronic music has recently focused a lot on the past (ghost music, hypnagogic pop etc.) – electronic editing is well suited to follow the effects of the immigrant music which the >imaginary national anthems< has created. furthermore the projects instigators were curious how >electronic musicians< would handle folk music and folk songs which is a hugely difficult task. to this end artists were sought out who could get along with the idea of each music style and who are known to already have experimented with the human voice. the results are as varied as the music styles and djs involved. some melodies remain completely intact while others are abstracted beyond recognition. margaret dygas associative approach ensured that she presents a polish song about a girls arranged marriage with a claustrophobic feeling. with his remix of the marrabenta of mozambique mark ernestus has continued the rhythmic experiments he is known for with jeri jeri. thomas mahmoud translated gnawa into dub and finaly ulrich schnauss turned the song of the italian chorus of >donni so< into a hymn for the horizon-expanding power of migration.hopefully this compilation will also expand some horizons.

gone too long from rising duo him_self_her is a bonafide bomb - house with feeling and a massive bassline and killer vocal from kieran fowkes. reinvigorated by crosstown rebels for a re-release after it came out on mexican label cream couture last year, this time the infectious original comes backed with remixes from belgian hero compuphonic, who injects more bounce, bleeps and emotive melody and the mighty yousef whos darker circus rework is a deep affair of rolling drums and dubby textures

liverpool based andy ash hits the saft imprint with two excellent analog house jams. the overall sound andy comes up with, hints to the early machine driven house sounds from the late 80s on the a1 in love whilst transitioning into the more jammy house sound andy has been purveying on his string of latest releases on his a2 jam called black stem.on the b side saft regular kastil provides andy ashs >in love< with a heavy machine rework. kastil proves he has been crafting and perfecting his production skills with some new hardware gear. this remix hold the intense feel of a 4am sweaty club session. all and all saft proudly present the 5th installment in their series of pure and all round house releases.

marcmans dici ep released a few months ago had a massive response from djs and dancers as well. here, paragram revisits some of the greatest highlights of that record. the rework treatment is in the care of three amazing artists such as franco cinelli, dorian paic and jorge savoretti.

messalina records return with a fantastic ep of eclectic dancefloor bubblers from fellow we love space residents jamie fatneck low and lucci capri (aka dj callum). first up is the eagerly awaited vinyl release of fatnecks incredible acid rework of michael jacksons classic billie jean, highly in-demand since receiving heavy rotation from greg wilson (the only dj lucky enough to have a copy) who nicely sums the track up...i love the way fatneck has put a somewhat psychotic twist on billie jean via his acid interpretation - inspired west yorkshire wacko madness! next up lucci capri delivers the quirky balearic chugger dame un beso, with super-sweet latino lyrics and a great reggae-influenced swing. flip over for the beautifully understated because today i saw u which melds a cool deep house groove with esther phillips yearning vocals. rounding off the ep in style is fatnecks superb dancefloor-friendly edit of the aretha franklin version what a fool believes. great stuff - welcome back messalina!
