bruno “patchworks” hovart is definitely one of the top producers of today’s groove music scene. after playing as a bassist and guitarist for various bands, he started producing in the mid-nineties and has kept on mixing today’s technologies with the raw spirits of house, electronic, disco, funk, soul, reggae & jazz music’s golden years since then. following the trail of success left by his various projects as patchworks, and under many aliases, he’s proved his musical ubiquity and unexpectedly stroke in various genres. for this new ep, he’s back under the edr records’ umbrella, following up to his acclaimed eps called give my love (edr019) and dedications (edr021), and meanwhile pursuing a comeback to his early love for house music. many house music diggers would indeed remember that before favorite recordings was launched in 2006, patchworks and pascal rioux produced many deep-house titles on the rotax disques imprint. besides since the late 90s, patchworks has also collaborated with labels such as q-tape, or still music, delivering many clubbing hits such as “million toes”, “sugar”, or “minautor” to name just a few. on this 4 tracks ep, he again delivers 4 dancefloor killers, ready to convince any listener from old-school “footstomping” aficionados, to detroit house heads. for the occasion he also invited his long time mate eric duperray aka mr day, who brings his soulful vibes to the mix.

after the release of brazilian disco boogie sounds (fvr098), favorite recordings follows-up, this time focusing on its homeland language. helped by a close connoisseur friend, dj and collector charles maurice presents a fine selection of what he thinks represent best the amazing energy of this specific movement and period. with 10 rare titles, all produced between 1975 and 1984, he shows a perfect picture of what you could find in french record stores at that time, on one hand, tracks by overdrive, marché noir, didier makaga or france-lise, were produced by underground artists and labels from the french caribbean and african community and also filled with the raw spirit of this tropical stamping. on the other hand, tracks by beckie bell, kelly, le club, or bernard guyvan, were released by major labels such as trëma, carrere, disques vogue, or pathé marconi, thanks to confirmed independent producers, acting not only in france, but also in canada and the us. today, favorite recordings and charles maurice are very proud to shed some light again on these gems, and hopefully offer them a new life on your turntable

detroit love are proud to present the inaugural release on their newly founded eponymous imprint – a collaborative venture from planet e and !k7 which aims to capture the essence of carl craig’s superb event series of the same name. detroit love mixed by stacey pullen is a sixteen track journey that exemplifies the diversity of the city, as well as the essence of the parties, championing both lesser known artists and familiar faces into a 74 minute mix.

2017 saw cesar merveille & ryan crosson deliver their second long player in the shape of cerulean, drawing on their modern classical, jazz, ambient and abstract influences to create yet another unique listen featuring collaborations with a classical pianist, trumpet, guitar and double bass players. here we see those original parts eschewed into something entirely fresh from friends and close associates of the duo. leading on the release is cadenza boss lucianos sous le sol interpretation of arp, which twists and turns through the hypnotic chimes and emotive piano chords of the original whilst stirring in luciens signature modulating and intricately evolving rhythmic style. following is a collaborative rework from new yorks phil moffa and seth troxler which employs ethereal synth drones and stuttering vocal cuts alongside a bumpy percussive drive and pulsating subs. perlons bruno pronsato steps up next to remix even tides, delivering his typically raw and emotive style via glitched out, mind-bending percussion, elongated bass drones and cleverly reshaped cuts of the originals cinematic elements. l.as clovis then closes the package with his remix of nordic bummers, employing shuffled hats, lumpy subs and crunchy claps at its core whilst horn swells and aiy atmospherics ebb and flow throughout.

since the release of their critically acclaimed debut album in 2013 on names you can trust, la mecánica popular has quietly been contemplating the evolution of the group s sound, philosophy, and overall approach to making music. band leader efraín rozas experimental nature has continually pushed the boundaries of his own definition of not only latin american music, but its broader relationship with music s global culture and history. the sound of -psychedelic salsa- that lmp helped capture in their debut was destined for further outside-the-box interpretations, and with the formation of a new quintet lineup over the last few years, lmp began to incorporate a more free, improvised and instrumental-focused performance of rozas increasingly radical compositions. the band subsequently took this liberated approach directly into the studio, recording roza cruz live, in its entirety. it was a cathartic experience, a necessary methodology for the new album s concept that embraced the intimate performance of its players and did away with standard techniques of isolation and overdubs. the evolution of the band s sound on roza cruz brings forth a blend of styles rarely heard together, a touch reminiscent of electric-era miles davis or eddie palmieri at his most experimental, as the driving force of timbales and congas provide a bed for a wave of lush, analog amplification that mirrors the dueling leads of fuzz guitar and electric piano. but as far out as those instruments take the listener, the raw rhythm the clave always keeps it tethered to the earth and the dance, a cerebral yet visceral gift for the mind and feet.

module werk continues his fine form of recent releases with another fresh sounding production for lime street music. slabs of raw drum patterns meet jittery acid and nervy cold synths resulting in four different trips for varying moods. jeremiah r appears on remix duties and turns out a real late night driving track in his usual signature style.

klangkeller records, recognized for modular sound experiments, catchy beats and percussive rhythms, has done it again with audiokerns third release a personal way ep. the ep delves into experimental, abstract and electronica grounds. audiokerns sounds are stimulated by the external world and their atmosphere, with a drop of the basic essence of electronic dance music. these 8 tracks are certainly a confirmation of it. uncanny valleys live drum is fresh and magnetic alongside dissimilar jingles and swishes which positively balance. wired system is abstract, with a dark added vocal at the end which brands it as a powerful track. differently, under the same sun is entirely melodic, with beautiful dreamy waves that genuinely make you touch the sun. it continues with the night of glory. its duskier moodier vibrations and a few words add an exciting and dark temper that still fits purely within the ep. element of trance and hypnotic place are all about bringing the listener into another dimension. it alienates and hypnotizes you from reality through the quantity of small alterations and sub kicks within the sound. to conclude, dont forget the animals is mysteriously percussive, its like different animal roars assorted together, its gorgeously confusing.

excise is a vinyl-focused label based out of san francisco, california. each release pairs a regional californian techno artist and a local visual artist, thus serving as a platform to fuse the two local creative scenes. its first release features label co-owner muon with 3 hypnotic raw analog tracks. many of these tracks received heavy play time in the san francisco underground, and now are seeing a broader release for the first time.

glyn bigga bush has been producing electronic and sample-based music since the early 90s when he formed rockers hi fi, going on to release numerous albums. since the turn of the century he has produced and dj d as biggabush as well as various side projects such as lightning head (sonar kollektiv), the dandelion set (buried treasure) and the magic drum orchestral (tru thoughts). biggas latest project sunken foal stories represents a departure from much of his other work in that it is not primarily based on beats. instead, his working method was to go with fascinating samples, accidental juxtapositions and irregular loops inspired by pioneers of sound such as faust and the audio experiments of julian house as well as early stereo test records, soundtracks and library music.

vienna-based producer sam irl popped up on our radar a couple of years ago following stellar releases on jazz & milk, but honestly we should have been paying far closer attention as this guy has been making the best crunchy, mpc-driven jazz-infused house music dating right back to 2006. ep’s for s3a’s sampling as an art and collaborative projects with patrick pulsinger and dusty have won him fans including gilles peterson (leading to a release on brownswood), mr scruff and session victim amongst many others. his live sets have also seen him perform at the hallowed grounds of panorama bar and sonar festival. for his debut ep here on freerange sam has delivered four tracks which perfectly showcase his production skills and knowledge of what makes a dance floor tick, kicking off with title track rain technique. quirky keys and a playful groove help build a warm and charming vibe, light and bouncy yet deep and driving enough to get your dance on to. trust follows with loping, lopsided percussion forming the basis of the groove, sparse rhodes pads punctuating the beat and adding just the right musical element to the mix without cluttering the beats or compromising the sense of space. flipping over we have all thats left which sees sam utilising his trusted tr606 for some lovely snappy snares and sizzling hihats. chiming arpeggios join the repeating chord riff creating another simple yet uplifting and playful mood which cant fail to get under your skin. closing the ep we have a wonky, shuffling house track which once again shows sam proving less is more, sampling his key elements into the mpc and jamming out the arrangement in a live and improvised way which brings a fresh, somewhat naive appeal to the production.

dirty funk house from colombia! with heavy remixes by seb wildblood (church), retrogott (ava, money sex) & dj qualle and pontchartrain. felipe gordon is new to the scene, but entering the house world now via toy tonics in a heavy way. just watch that remix package: felipe gordon has some massive fans already. he knows a few dudes and he has some cool releases coming on church, s3a records and intimate friends. in fact felipe is throwing some of the biggest underground house parties in colombia along with his nómada records crew from bogotá. and he is making tracks, too. dirty bangers. with a certain unique vibe. he used to play in bands before switching to samplers and getting addicted to old disco and house vinyl. you can hear that: his moody, raw tunes use samples of rare records. but selected carefully, adding his own juno 60 or moog synth chords (like on tell me something true). often using minor keys and lot of little noises and short spoken words by himself. never clean, always musically special. felipe gordon might be new to the international dance scene, but for sure you gonna hear that name more frequently over the next years.

the 2nd release on steady work by dear friends features conti with his exceptional consignment to all lovers of left field approaches to house and bass loaded music. contis ma lumps ep allows you to get a feeling for the crocking of the toxic but cheering industrial spheres of the city of mannheim. this ep is an emulsion out of distorted beats, field recordings, sampled baselines and vocal snippets, processed through a mpc, tracks in a rough tape compression mix style. funky-but-not-funky-kraut-hop-house at it s best. slope down from your faith by those lumps.

deep, soulful and techy treats by maestro eric ericksson. eric has been releasing his music since the early nineties on labels like fragile and planet e. in resent times eric’s music can also be found on papa records, local talk and freerange, to name a few. an elegant four tracker that starts out with the uncompromising and crude track ”greed”, followed by ”acquiescence” with its sharp and classy shuffles, lush strings and big sounding pads. the flip side starts of with ”totality”. complete, raw sounding with morphing dubby stabs, combined with rough grooves and punching beats. the ep ends off with the pulsating, dreamy and sensitive track ”closure”. nothing is left by chance when eric shows his vision and approach for modern electronic music.

around 6 months after the success of the first lateral fragments vinyl, pjotr g & dubiosity return for part two. they continue where they left off, serving some deep, melodic vibes on tabula rasa and outage. with turmoil, the duo takes a bit of a different approach. the warm synths make way for some more hypnotic, raw vibes. petter b delivers a truly grand remix for turmoil, which is as fitting to lateral fragments as it is to your sets.

as fabrice lig has contributed to the kanzleramt history – we are returning the favour and congratulate with this release to his 25th stage-anniversary! black stone is taken from universal tech ep of 2003 (ka089 12inch | digi). its powerful sequence was always considered as one of the best ever to be exposed on kanzleramt. so more than deserving and about damn time 3 new black stones emerge: polished into an epic set-starter or the jet-black time-lapsed grinding and compressing in the earth’s crust or raw acid washed. heiko leaves the choice to you.

pun kuyen (moon night) is the second ep of the nguillatun records label. auca immerses us in this album with a first track, curico (black water), with a techno from the depths of the water, dark hypnotism and pulsating loop. puken (winter) is full of cold atmospheres and suspended drones that create tension. lanahue (lost soul) closes the album with a strong and intense original version, and a remix with low frequencies and beats that takes us almost to the mental disconnection, from the hand of svreca, to take our breath away.

part two of the ep features the motor city drum ensemble remix, and the original “in a silent mix” version from 1999, a track out of its time when released on allen’s sole record “black voices”. a long serving dekmantel veteran, danilo plessow was there from the start. after compiling the first selector’s compilation last year, mcde turns tony allen’s masterpiece in a jam, with added house beats, giving the funk number the edit treatment. the final mix sounds like the kind of track you would hear mcde play in one of his sets as he’s firing up the heat. the organ sounds and trumpets are left high in the mix, to create an unforgettable hook that resonates throughout, in complete motor city style.

this is the return of the collaborative project vofa, by sawf and anfs, on pi electronics. the athens based duo, that put out the label’s debut release, deliver another 4-tracker of their signature sound for the 5th pi record. pi05.1 is a bass line oriented composition of thrilling beauty, while pi05.2 and pi05.4 provide different takes on the main pi05 theme: one leaning closer to uk breaks influences and the other closer to industrial, hard hitting broken beats. pi05.3 offers a driving tool of distorted realities and tuning bass lines. all tracks showcase further focus on sound texture and dynamics balance, providing a perfect blend of sawf and anfs in joint forces as vofa.

our boss claude vonstroke is the busiest guy we know. when hes not traveling the world or curating an event, hes in the studio every day putting in hours upon hours, relentless in perfecting his craft. hes had a slew of hits the past couple years in the form of remixes and collaborations, and now with the walay (my bae) ep, claude gets back to some inventive and somewhat out of the box solo works. the title song leads with a melodic riff and an funky vocal that sounds like a defective cyborg is proclaiming love for his partner, walay. this quasi-human uses the slang my bae to try and pass for human and we almost believe in his passion. the sound harkens back to old classic rave tracks but also pushes very modern production techniques. on the flip, raw nerve is an emotional exploration in both sounds and lyrics. a melancholy vonstroke dives deep into his insecurities and fears with sonically mutated lyrics like im feeling so sad, im feeling real bad today. when i see you on the street i dont want to compete. you can feel the social instability oozing out of the vocal only to come back at the close with a violently hard bassline embodying the personal angst and frustration that goes along with not fitting in.

the raw jacking sexiness of ghetto house has always played a big role in the killekill universe. so its high time to put out our first release which goes that direction. italian andrew soul is an artist we have been watching for a while already. when he sent the demo with the extremely raw and dirty tunes that you find on the a-side of this 12inch, the decision was easy: killer stuff which makes you bounce immediately we want to put this out! the b-side comes from dirtbox, who is also one half of snuff crew and therefore has been part of the killekill family for a while already. actually almost from the start. being the musical wizard he is, he can not only make house and acid music and anything else you could think of, but also class a ghetto house. maybe even more classic than andrew souls side but ranging from the percussive style of smmfd and work that to the raw energy of fukk it is definitely in no way less original. shake dat ass!

berlin based co-founder of visionquest shaun reeves has gradually carved out his unique take of raw, minimalistic house music over the years via releases on dorian paics raum...musik, one records, his new shantu label alongside tuccillo and of course his own visionquest. here we see him pairing up with canadian duo maher daniel and amir javasoul who together as creatures of habit have been picking up attention from the likes of ricardo villalobos, zip, raresh and apollonia amongst others. here marking the debut of their collaborative creatures of shaun guise the duo offer up their mind over matters ep, the title-track leads and lays down mind bending, modulating percussion and synth swirls alongside bumpy bass grooves and hypnotic atmospherics whilst stirring in a tripped-out spoken word vocal sample to further fuel the psychedelic house feel. blink follows and tips the focus over to resonant subs, stripped-back organic percussion and murky vocal swells, again resulting in something mesmerizing and groove-led before out of orbit reduces things even further to refined shuffled hats, minute rhythmic modulations and snaking bass flutters.
