powder is an up-and-coming producer from tokyo who had put out only a couple of releases on born free and esp institute when resident advisor featured her on the monthly series breaking through this past august. inspired by her first visit to cocktail d amore in 2015, she was so enthralled by the atmosphere, she started working on an ep for the label capturing her experiences from the party. the way powder interprets sound is extremely personal and unique. the opener hip has a driving sensual groove with hints of acid, seasoned with a good amount of loons and a mysterious foggy melody while heart sounds like an italo disco aural translation of a shojo manga script for a fun in the sun tinged story. on the flip side a slowmo industrial-meets-rainforest groove characterizes hole followed by hair in which she blends many layers of rhythm patterns together.

ok, to call this album long awaited or highly anticipated would be a non sequitur. what lies here before you is sculpted out of the blood and tears of 5 years of life, and all the dreams, imagination, tristesse and longing that goes along with it. the name orgue electronique shouldnt be new to you, cause it isnt. for over a decade it has been lurking in the periphery of house music - forever too early or too late for the trend, be it as a solo artist or working alongside legowelt. but it seems the apotheosis is finally here, in the form of this mesmerizing double album: wholly matured and further enhanced by collaborations with luminaries like robert owens, alden tyrell and cult hero fre2k. but to just dismiss this as a retro house record would be to sell it short in a big way. sure it was influenced by the usual bunch of pioneers and icons, but this is not an epigone, this is music that is. its warm and generous, made up of real emotions, of moments frozen in time and of the impassioned cries of a soul on the run. thats right, this aint no hipster shit dime-a-dozen facebook house gonzales! to finally let it go after so many years is - for all the parties involved - a strange yet exciting moment, not unlike the birth of an elephant baby. out of a human female

this outstanding piece from jackie misfit, london based deejay, producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist presents a harmonic collision between primal africa and western culture. complex in its structure, based on polyphonic singing technique called jodel and articulated together with the dance, pigmy music has much in common with contemporary dance music. the concept was to create the impression that the instruments were played by the tribe to give the impression of being around them. to gain that, jackie used a variety of drums, whistles, harps, instruments built of coconut shells, animal skins and sanza wood by pigmies and vocals recorded in congo rainforest during the tribal rituals. its crafted in the western manner but the inspiration. basic repetitive patterns, vocals and instruments used in this production are original. together with the title that translates as the community of love, and works as homage to the humanitarian organization in congo that is focused on preserving pygmies and their culture.

the phrase >tropical< is currently getting used to describe a lot of different music, some good, some bad, some ugly. to save on confusion senseless went out and travelled the world to find some music from the actual tropics, venezuela to be precise. somewhere buried deep in the mysterious rainforest, or possibly just in a studio in caracas, they found pocz and pacheko. it?s so near the equator maybe we can ditch the ?tropical bass? tag and go for something new, >equatorial bass< perhaps? maybe not. pacheko, francisco mejia, will be familiar to some for his solo releases on lo dubs, murder channel, seclusiasis and for his work with legendary venezualan expat cardopusher. his partner in bass pocz (carlos majoral) is a classically trained musician and production engineer. along with a select few others they run abstractor, a collective of producers, artists and designers, who promote parties, run a blog and do a fine job of representing bass music in venezuela pretty much solo. the collective includes graphic artist design or die who is responsible for the incredible artwork and pretty special video for >zarbak<.

for their first multi-artist compilation, music from memory take us on a trip to the heart of the amazon rainforest. outro tempo: electronic and contemporary music from brazil, 1978-1992 is a double lp that explores the outer reaches of brazilian music, where indigenous rhythms mix with synthesizers and where mpb mingles with drum computers. as brazil faced the last years of its military dictatorship and transition to democracy, a generation of forward-thinking musicians developed an alternative vision of brazilian music and culture. they embraced traditionally shunned electronic production methods and infused their music with elements of ambient, jazz-fusion, and minimalism. at the same time they referenced the musical forms and spirituality of indigenous tribes from the amazon. the music they produced was a complex and mesmerising tapestry that vividly evoked brazilian landscapes and simultaneously reached out to the world beyond its borders.
