brooklyns own lets play house returns with its first release of the new year: a couple of original house jams by chicken lips dean meredith—here teaming up with fellow londoners ben shenton and tim silver—and a couple of remixes, courtesy of the mysterious house maven chicago damn and production guru brennan green. as usual, the party-starters behind lph (jacques renault from runaway and on the prowl, editor nik mercer, and tobs james friedman) have assembled a four-track 12 inch fit to be played at their biweekly ragers as well as any other dancefloor hungry for something a little unexpected.

new vocal 12 inch on wph....tip! it should be obvious by now that we here at the wph camp are keen on real vocals. so while the rest of the world is busy sampling and recycling vocals from the past, leave it up to us to pick out those tracks that feature fresh and home made vocals. although wph 012 by dj yellow also indulges in a little bit of recycling, or rather good old fashioned licensing. the title track >night in tranzylvania< has been a huge favourite with label boss red d and his belgian crowd ever since it was released on the criminally overlooked album >intermission< on project recordings in 2008. but now it is back in all its glory and supported by >angels part< a killer ambient track which also featured on that album album, >je tm<, a new track by dj yellow and a russ gabriel remix of the title track.

the three tracks for this release go through a wide range of our sound. >cyclone< by samuel dan and feygin is a throwback to the way dirtybird records sounded back in 2006, raw and fun with big drums. but >cyclone< sounds amazing compared to the sound quality of some of those old records we all love, a definite update to the old db vibe. b-jus >babbel net< is his follow-up appearance to last years bomb track >my sneakers< that all of us played 1000 times. this is more in the smooth 808 style of dirtybird while still giving you some punch and melody. this record works really well for me and this groove crossover into a house set no problem. last but not least is maelstroms >you play<. this is a real monster, not so much for the house heads but instead for those of you who like to cross genres and explore the bass regions during your sets. definitely not your friendly deep house record this one is a real db banger in the tradition of big dirty bass we love here in san francisco.
