ltd repress! by now, chicago s home of the ghetto house movement, dance mania, should need no introduction! if you didn t already know, they are the original purveyors of that hard-ass, stripped back, tough, hitting electronic funk, they ve never held back with their output. operating since the late 80 s the label has gained legions of fans over 2 decades as well as a certain notoriety and one of their most well-known artists has got to be the legendary dj deeon and his various production pseudonyms! this, the second in a series of samplers focusses on some of his unreleased cuts, rarities and classics from the dm catalogue. kicking things off with the demented over-sexed jacking off of da dik suk this ep shows you what s up from the jump. lifted off 1996 s freak like me ep this is vintage deeon to the core! this is followed up with the minimal, acidic runnings of 1112 , from deeon s 1996 chop shop release, a wigged out, simplistic groove that just won t stop. classic chicago weirdness that simply just slams. the frenetic phenomenon opens up side b, produced under his mute pseudonym and originally released in 1997 this is a sure-fire rarity from the dm vaults. a tough one to track down and a real essential under the radar cut. also featured is the wild acid of playground productionz the box , here in unreleased (!) rare remixed form by another chi-town legend - paul johnson. top shelf business. last but certainly not least is another playground jammer in the form of the killer vertigo lifted off the same ep from 1994 which is surely enough to whet even the toughest of appetites. file under jackin . every track on here has been remastered and repressed with the full consent and involvement of dj deeon and parris mitchell, selected and programmed from deeon s private archives and dat tapes for above board, london. 100% hater free.

with previous releases from omsk information & dr. walker, patricia and abayomi amongst others, the 20th release in their catalogue comes from julia who makes his debut on the label. originally from the us, now based in prague, julia honed his flair for live-improvised, hardware techno in warehouse parties and after hour events. it is this approach he adopts across his 4-track ep for nona.

this album is a collaboration between labels kontra-musik and kess kill. what would have become of d.a.f. if they had been signed to trojan instead of mute back in the day add a good pinch of absurdism and social realism in the vein of prized film director roy andersson and vanligt folk might just be the answer. the gothenburg groups name can be translated to common people and they make use of primitive electronics, drums and skewed vocals - ranging from harsh social commentary to the purely nonsensical - to create their own take on body music. hambo is the name of a traditional swedish folk dance that was highly popular among the common people at the turn of the last century. with this album, vanligt folk juxtaposes the working class dance phenomena of hambo with modern day rave culture. this is done in the most blasphemous manner thinkable, as is the way of vanligt folk. concepts like nationalism, race and tradition are all treated with the same merry lack of reverence. the only thing that needs to be respected is the dance and those who take part in it, whether accompanied by accordions or drum machines. or both.

parrish smith makes his dekmantel debut on the labels sister-techno imprint, ufo, with a blend of avant garde electronics and industrial. with the sex, suicide & speed metal ep , dutch producer parrish smith works outside of the realm of genres and tempos, creating his own unique template of saturated, electronic post-punk, having won accolades from the likes of nina kraviz, and ron morelli along the way. an analogue purist at heart, parrish smith has already amassed a cult following with regular appearances on red light radio, in which the anarcho-experimentalist broadcasts sessions of heavy industrialism, breakbeats and body music.

cia records is an imprint who has remained at the centre of drum & basses history, with esteemed producers total science creating it during the genre’s formative years in 1997. the forthcoming ep on cia, field’s ‘intention dub’, highlights the eclectic mix of artists who have joined the roster since its first release. featuring a variety of collaborative producers, the six-track ep exemplifies the talented intricacies of fields and his masterful song compositions. the names that run alongside fields stand out within their own right, with underground stalwarts mako, and mcleod, roller top dog break, frequent partner villem (who go under their pseudonym mute) and forren, who also makes an appearance. as a collective, they represent many of the artists who helped cia build their impressive back catalogue.

beginning in the early 90s, emmanuel top became france s first techno superstar, even if his popularity was greater in countries like germany and england than his own. he released a multitude of 12inches on the attack label la pipe a eau, krankenhaus, ecsta-deal, stress, turkish bazar, and many more many of which are compiled on the triple-disc release collection from 1995. top s next step took him to nova mute alongside heavyweights like plastikman. in addition to his solo work, top also collaborated with bruno sanchioni and bruno quartier in the mid to late 90s as the trance act b.b.e. (seven days and one week) and also as age of love (the original age of love).

lsd is an ongoing musical collaboration between longtime electronic music innovators luke slater, steve bicknell and david sumner focusing on psychedelic aspects of techno while emphasizing the cross-pollination of each members style and rhythmic sensibility. personal ties between the three can be traced back across continents and developments in dance music, with steve first inviting luke to play his legendary lost party series in london in the early 90s, resulting in mutual remixes for pioneering techno imprints cosmic records and nova mute. almost a decade later in the year 2000, dave, a native new yorker, befriended steve after inviting him to play limelight in manhattan. over the years, dave and luke would also have numerous encounters, first forming a musical bond in 2009, with dave later co-producing lukes early l.b. dub corp material (roller, 2013).

neil landstrumm - bad life choice club ep are bad life choices a bad thing or actually quite good really? neil landstrumm invites you to join his club of fools with this effort on moustache records. its money badly invested if you do but endless selfish pleasure awaits the brave. don t blame me if it all goes wrong. i warned you. idiot. this six track lp from the early 1980s contains pleasure seeking electro-pop and beastly disco lust, heard from the other side of mute records black leatherette covered door this record is made by neil landstrumm (rip) on fuck all with shit speakers. ably assisted by tommy stuart and his wall of modular synth and a pork pie on at least two occasions. made for the french but they didn t have enough money to pay for it. fuck the tories and brexit. scotland wanted to stay in the european union. we hope you all know that.

der legendäre dj, musiker und produzent andrew weatherall adelte die aus newcastle stammende formation warm digits mit den worten: -machine funk kraut-a-delia - it’s rather lovely!- was man darunter verstehen darf? elemente von neu!, kraftwerk, giorgio moroder, my bloody valentine und boards of canada, welche die beiden musiker andrew hodson und steve jefferis mit hilfe von geradliniger percussion, elektronischen basslines, gitarren-riffs im stil von keith levene (the clash) und viel analoger wärme zu einem -krautophonic blizzard-wave- verbinden. das brachte den jungs schon supporttouren mit goblin, modeselektor, esg, st. etienne und dem moon duo ein. für sein drittes album hat das duo seinen sound weiter geschärft: -wireless world- wartet mit einem dutzend knackiger, treibender und melodisch reicher songs auf. zum ersten mal in der bandgeschichte kam es bei den aufnahmen zu kollaborationen mit lieblingssängern und -sängerinnen wie peter brewis (field music), sarah cracknell (saint etienne), devon sproule und mia la metta (beards). das album möchten hodson und jefferis als kommentar zum aktuellen weltgeschehen verstanden wissen, das ihrer ansicht nach auf der kippe zwischen feier und untergang steht.
