repress - j dilla is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time, having supplied timeless soundbeds for the likes of a tribe called quest, slum village, the pharcyde, busta rhymes, common, de la soul, the roots, d’angelo, erykah babu, madlib, and many more. in 2005, rumors began circulating about an album called “jay love japan”, a j dilla solo project inspired by one of jay dee’s favorite locations to visit on tour. after dilla’s untimely death in early 2006, the album became a lost classic shrouded in mystery, with only unofficial bootlegs and promo versions available. an official cd version was eventually released in 2008, but quickly went out of print. now, the album is finally receiving the official release it always deserved. j dilla’s mother ma dukes and her label vintage vibez music group are proud to present official vinyl and cd versions of “jay love japan”. with six soulful dilla instrumentals and vocal appearances from blu, miguel, j*davey, ta’raach, exile, baatin, and more, this 11-track collection is a perfect snapshot of late-period j dilla brilliance.

autarkic describe himself as first and foremost a songwriter but he has also made a name for himself as an international dj. over the past three years the musician based in tel aviv has, with great success, played clubs throughout all of europe. one extra memorable gig was on last year’s edition of convenanza in the amphitheatre in sete, france. rumour has it that the sea living mammals of the area flocked in large groups in the waters below during autarkic’s gig. this 12” picture vinyl is his first release on hoga nord rekords and the slightly psychedelic, sample- and synthesiser based club music that has become autarkic’s trademark sound is captured by an impeccable production. the music is playful, yet stripped down to the essentials and not overloaded. the vocal elements works more as percussive elements than the carrier of the storytelling in the music. if you missed him live or just don’t have the means to go see him, this record give a taste of autarkic’s hypnotic live performances!

repress - for their first multi-artist compilation, music from memory take us on a trip to the heart of the amazon rainforest. outro tempo: electronic and contemporary music from brazil, 1978-1992 is a double lp that explores the outer reaches of brazilian music, where indigenous rhythms mix with synthesizers and where mpb mingles with drum computers. as brazil faced the last years of its military dictatorship and transition to democracy, a generation of forward-thinking musicians developed an alternative vision of brazilian music and culture. they embraced traditionally shunned electronic production methods and infused their music with elements of ambient, jazz-fusion, and minimalism. at the same time they referenced the musical forms and spirituality of indigenous tribes from the amazon. the music they produced was a complex and mesmerising tapestry that vividly evoked brazilian landscapes and simultaneously reached out to the world beyond its borders.

vinyl only, alex took his first musical steps by studying piano and guitar at the young age of 6. his fascination for the more outlandish, experimental side of each instrument corrupted his lessons and sent him down a modular synths and tape loop composition wormhole. years later alex resurfaced, got himself clean and, through connections made while spending time as a vocal audience member (and sometimes uninvited participant) at lyman woodard, phil ranelin, and other tribe- and motown-linked gigs in cass corridor during the mid-1970s, spent time as a session musician for earth wind and fire, chic, and prince. it was only toward the mid-90s he found himself enthralled by the techno and house sounds of detroit and chicago so he went into the woodshed and came out firing electronic salvos.
