legendary los hermanos member santiago salazar’s album ‘aspirations for young xol’ is given a vinyl release courtesy of rekids. a heartfelt dedication to his son isaias, ‘aspirations for young xol’ takes us through the life of a pillar in the electronic music community - santiago salazar. from his formative years spent in california to his connection with detroit and the passing of a childhood friend, the long-player’s tracks signpost the musician’s significant experiences, both positive and negative. this meaningful body of work was released digitally on pastel voids and now rekids release the album on wax. ‘saturated fear’ sets a deep tone for the lp, flanging melodies and echoing claps float through the composition before the album’s title track ‘aspirations for young xol’ offers haunting arpeggios with occasional acidic overtones which are cleverly offset by beautifully designed lead synth transitions. ‘bloodlines’ follows a similar musical vein with delayed bass riffs that are suspended above shimmering hihats and a weighted kick. santiago provides three beatless pieces throughout, which digress into more emotional territory whilst offering brief respite from his heavier drum work. ‘xol’s pain’ combines orchestral strings and swelling synthesisers which build tension with a subtly complex, evolving motif. both ‘dark matter’ and ‘ode to stinson’ use arresting atmospheres, warped arpeggios and ethereal pads which lull the listener into a retrospective mood. an intensity builds in the later tracks, a gritty but powerful low end provides a solid foundation in ‘orange blossom thump”, eventually making way for a hectic and elastic lead synth before ‘pachuco dub’ displays drones that build a dissonant pressure in which the complex tom rhythms and rolling hi hats can grow. ‘sarah rivera’ hypnotises with its delectable chord progressions and complimentary melodies which seem to float above a rigid drum composition to close the album with style

when we launched our digital imprint in 2013, one of our explicit reasons for doing so was to fund a vinyl label. it may have taken us four years to get to this point, but we’re finally here - fkofv001 is upon us. the debut fatkidonfire physical release sees new artists join our roster. taiko’s untitled grime has been blowing up the dances for a hot minute, championed by the likes of truth, spooky and many more. spooky even named the tune in his fact mag top ten most prized dubplates list! we linked taiko up with mancunian wordsmith skittles (currently smashing it with the levelz crew), and “don’t be stoopid” is the anthemic result. fkof fam and producer extraordinaire district adds an industrial grime-esque flavour to his remix for a killer one-two punch. the two producers collaborate, for the first time ever, on the b-side, entitled “yokai”. it’s a tune that demonstrates why we signed both musicians incredible atmospheres, depth and weight. beau at ten eight seven, as ever, has mastered the tunes to perfection. we’re proud of this release and, on first listen, we hope you’ll hear why...

up next on good company records is tourist kid s under armour suite , a power ambient head cleaner in four parts, built for the club, and best enjoyed at high volume. originally recorded in a sweltering bedroom in hawaii, the a-side pits rolling virtual piano against heavyweight clouds of crisp dsp that jitter and jostle at 125 bpm for this, local audio/visual artist rory glacken s first vinyl release. on the flip, the suite is reworked by basic mind, one half of gcr alumni long body, who lures a blowfly house stomper from the original s minimal, digital dusk. packaged in a disarmingly plain black sleeve !

our fresh outing for kid caprice ep sees another new face join the dirt crew/ spiel family. our latest artist discovery is bal 5000 out of budapest, hungary. coming from a diverse genre background, his sound ranges from disco to techno, tastefully touched with indie and balearic. the title track, for kid caprice heralds a soulful bass line, easy house stabs, light hearted keys, gently swung percussion and sparkling disco licks, this ones a soundtrack for traversing the cosmos or blissfully swaying on a dance floor. dub version steps the energy up a notch. with its growling lead and steady lathered groove this one is wide and warm. on the b-side, farewell my lovely is melancholic yet uplifting, eerie synths sing over positive key hits and its lithe melodic lines playfully interact with the rolling bass giving this one a live synth-pop feel. wake up! its monday! is bouncing and joyous with a chunky bass at its core. a queasy lead wraps around the central ideas while rising arpeggios elevate the mood. finally, as digital only track, cop is a pumping italo influenced house jam brightened with classic disco elements. boasting a self assured bass and gritty rumbling analogue synths, this one is right at home under the lights.

large music continues to showcase the brilliant and creative work of early 90s artists black ice with a re-issue of one of the most sought after early chicago house releases- the union camp ep. originally released in 1993 on the historic night club records, large music has now licensed the tracks exclusively for a worldwide vinyl-only release. while all four tracks possess that classic raw chi-town soul vibe, it is track 1, men on drums, that has garnered the most attention. championed the last few years by respected berlin-based dj zip, many of the elite vinyl-only djs across the globe have sough out a clean copy of this very rare wax masterpiece.

the transition from hip hop dj to dance music producer is not always an easy one. it is a path littered with countless fitted caps, baggy jeans, and backpacks. yet throne of blood s oneauff has walked this path and emerged unscathed. originally from north carolina, this long time brooklyn resident is no stranger to tob, having released two singles with production partner eamon harkin (mister saturday night/subway series) as well as remixes for populette, corinne (on the prowl), and the neurotic drum band (wurst music co.). though oneauff (known to the government as steve raney) has also been heard a couple solo releases including a digital-only single on buzzard gulch and a remix for cubic zirconia (dont cry recordings), the heavy heady ep is his most fully realized and developed. it s also among the most gorgeous records throne of blood has ever released.

the kid is back... august darnell a.k.a. kid creole returns in style with his first studio album in over 10 years this autumn, i wake up screaming, an epic comeback recorded for strut at kid creoles sweden hq and mixed by brennan green (chinatown records).
in anticipation of this all-new creolian odyssey, strut unleash the opening single, i do believe, a trippy disco stream of consciousness straight from the mind of darnell touching on greek mythology and other fantastical snapshots. alongside the original album with its unmistakeable double harmonies and infectious slap bass groove, the 12 inch features some mouth-watering mixes: brennan green draws on some todd terry techniques for a hypnotic dub, san francisco dj collective 40 thieves (responsible for dance anthem >dont turn it off< on permanent vacation) take the track into chugging electro funk territory, and nu disco pioneers faze action deliver a smacking 4x4 version with an anthemic piano line. the digital release features extra tracks - the faze action dub and the original radio edit of the track co-produced by august darnell and andy butler (of hercules & love affair) and mixed by brennan green.

the green door studio opened its (confusingly black) doors to glasgows vibrant music community at the end of 2007. set up by three glasgow-based musicians emily maclaren (michael dracula/the lady vanishes), sam smith (mother & the addicts) and jamie greer (park attack), who, sick of using other peoples clinical digital studios and being told by engineers >you cant do that..<, decided to create a musician-friendly space where >actually you can...<.

hailing from montpellier, rodriguez jr. makes his return to leena with “kids of hula,” bringing the coastal sounds of his hometown along with him. after the success of “rubbo swingo”, his first release on leena, rodriguez jr.—who also comprises half of f communications’ the youngsters—went on to release records for boxer recordings and mothership. on leena’s 11th release, he has returned for a second round, once again displaying his softer side as a housey, psychedelic producer. “kids of hula“ begins on a strongly melodic note with airy, exotic chords leading the way and occasional accents of tropical percussion lining the backdrop. old-school throwbacks also have their place here, as the track climaxes with the use of psychedelic vintage sounds that recall the work of space disco giant lindstrom until they ultimately fuse together with the track’s initial harmonies to create a complex and layered final product. the b-side “pandora” begins with a more stuttered beat and a warbled, static-laced environment. the track reaches its high point with psychedelic sounds comparable to those heard on the a-side that possess a more hypnotic, melodic, and spacey twist. digital exclusive “offshore” fills its landscape with fragments of vocals and high pitched bleeps, blurps, squeals that alternate in time with one another until vintage synthesizers enter the picture. as the track progresses, the old-school synthesizer sounds and vocal snippets unite and begin to work together in unison, by the time the track reaches its peak, the vintage synths have taken on a completely new sound and direction, guiding the pulse of the track until its ending.

a1/ guehi jean pantalon s craqué guéhi jean is a key figure of ivorian music and many of his records mixing funk, jazz and afrobeat are sought after nowadays. having left africa in order to make it in france, he recorded this digital afrobeat hit in paris, then went back to his native country where he died in 2012. despite his talent, guéhi jean didn t get the recognition he deserved.
a2/ michel conte & cie s magoshan a disco anthem composed for quebec cultists wearing flares, or the main theme from an obscure series? anyway it is time to acclaim magoshan s pulsing come back on the dancefloor!
b1/ jean-michel gascuel s dominus this french composer who collaborated with pierre schaeffer was also a great lyricist working for the likes of vivian vee or suzy andrews, and a fashion designer. with its latin touch, this track is a little ufo standing out of the rest of his french productions, so let us be blessed by dominus domine dominarum.
b2/michel robidoux les planètes this track by composer michel robidoux featured on a kidisk with a book called -visitons les planètes avec goldorak- and was released in canada in 1980. this incredible space jam was chosen as a macaroon for this new ep – our tribute to an amazing composer who wrote more than 325 songs and even collaborated with leonard cohen.

one of electronic music’s greats steps back into the limelight with his first ep in more than 10 years. erik van den broek, the dutch producer who is probably better known under some of his pseudonyms such as shiver, essit musique and acid kid dominated the 90’s with a slew of brilliant acid and electro releases on dance arena productions and shiver. erik was a firm favourite of dave clarke and laurent garnier who included some of his tracks on their perfectly blended mix cds (x-mix electro boogie and laboratoire mix respectively).
erik already made an appearance on de:tuned’s 5 years box set in 2014 with the track primerose and now he’s back with more previously unreleased material. the tracks on offer are all on a deeper tip, with warm yet slightly eerie and mysterious sounds, clever programming and subtle effects. proof that erik has still got it after all these years. these tracks were made during an emotional time for erik, something that is clearly reflected in the music.
once again we enlisted alan oldham for artwork duties and matt colton for mastering the source material to perfection. this ep will be available on 180 gr vinyl. a digital release will also be available from all the usual outlets. de:tuned are honoured to have worked with erik on this release, a very personal record for him. thanks erik & emiel for your confidence and support!

different shapes & sizes is a new, 3 part series of eps from berlin resident spencer parker forthcoming on his work them records imprint over the next few months. conceived as a neat way of showcasing parkers love for different shades of house and techno, different shapes & sizes takes a walk through the rekids artists love for the subtle differences in the genres he tends to focus on most in his sets. london-born parker has been in fine fettle this past few years with his its not over project riding high while work them records has been lauded for tracks and remixes from the likes of radio slave, rodhad, pittsburgh track authority, young male and dan beaumont. different shapes & sizes: part 1 a double a-side exercise in muscular, simplistic house workouts, drops on vinyl and digitally in february with parts 2 and 3 following in march and april respectively.

argentinian producer, live act and tech whizkid alexis cabrera is back with a brand new release, a slice of stepping house, laced with minimal aesthetics on fun records, the recently christened label that he set up with fellow argentinian barem. the label emblem may be just an innocent looking balloon, but the contents of this vinyl release are far from lofty and full of hot air, instead grounding the listener through a mix of organic sound and digital dancefloor rhythms.
