the second part of the jacob f. desvarieux anthology on endless flight brings three more productions of the fabled french zouk veteran with roots in guadeloupe.
the song “sika” by georges décimus, bass player of desvarieux’s band kassav, features outer-national synth works driven by salsa-like percussions and sweet steel-drum melodies, dancing around the seducing zouk guitar chords of desvarieux. a truely moving psychedelic zouk gem, that is for the first available on vinyl only since its release on georges décimus’s solo debut mini-album “la vie” in 1983.

the first release on youth - a new label from andrew lyster, comes from portland based artist yard. hailing from the dark woods of the west coast of the united states, yard brings together a collection of tracks from the archives alongside some new material. canopy and white fog were originally released on the album deciduous flood plains, and have been reworked for this release. marshall acid is pressed to vinyl for the first time having previously only been available digitally via event horizon. yard’s gritty sound evokes a spectrum of gnarled city life to organic atmospheres. the release comprises of field recordings, micro-cassette mangles, bass kicks, a live jam between x0xb0x and a modded tr-606 and water drops percolating through the mixes to get that urban hum and grit running up against the forest.

fouk are finally back on heist after their great ‘kill frenzy’ ep in 2014 and have taken mount liberation unlimited along for a remix. we’ve been waiting patiently for new material, challenging the guys to take the signature ‘fouk’ sound to the next level. fouk’s brilliance has been obvious on recent work for their own label outplay and razor ‘n tape, as well as their respective solo projects. we’ve kept a close connection, teaming up whenever possible for heist showcases, with highlights in amsterdam’s “claire” and paris’ “concrete-. seeing their work and enthusiasm made it abundantly clear that it would only be a matter of time before they’d show us what the next step would look -or better yet- sound like. anticipation ran high but boy, do fouk deliver. the excellent ‘with lasers’ ep still very much portrays their own style of loose, live percussion and many layers of funk, but they’ve expanded their vision and even toughened up a bit. their new taste for grit and an interest in the heavier side of funk is probably most evident on the opener ‘f3000&#8242,,,,,, where a thunderous arpeggio is supported by distorted drums and lush cosmic synth stabs. title track ‘with lasers’ is more of a classic fouk track, combining a lovely walking disco bassline and their signature drum programming with… erm… lasers. lots of them. the b side ‘see you on the other side’ sets a different pace, carefully blending guitar licks, rhodesy chords and vocal chops into a lovely groove that feels just as carefree and improvised as it feels exciting. swedish synth nerds “mount liberation unlimited” ran with it and transformed it into a dreamy -pepe bradock goes balearic- track where airy echoed guitars take turns with some equally dreamy and evocative pads.

hot creations gear up to drop the eagerly anticipated house & pressure from hot property route 94. echoing the excitement that surrounded his no.1 hit my love, which shot him to stardom, the record has been in serious demand for months. now finally ready for release he showcases his versatile skills as a producer over three heavy-weight tracks. rowan jones aka route 94 explains how he wanted to put out three tracks that were diverse yet definitive. title track house & pressure packs a real punch and contains the vocals from joey negro s classic ride the storm featuring linda clifford. the dominant female vocal on ‘house & pressure’ combined with the force of the drum machines is a traditional element that people connect to the route 94 productions. with ‘crazy bitch’ it’s a more of a big room sound, incorporating ghetto elements. ‘dark keyless’ is the complete opposite, creating a groove that aims to grab the crowd and let them loose. this year has seen a succession of big releases and remixes from route 94 that cement his place amongst the dance music elite including the recent hit mind, body & soul on crosstown rebels. the talented producer first saw fame reaching no.1 in the uk charts with my love featuring jess glynne. keen to remain on the underground scene, he followed with releases and remixes on leftroom, defected and hot creations. overwhelming success followed as he performed at the likes of fabric, sub club, space, ushuaia, dc10 and many more. with a wealth of new material still on the way and a hectic touring schedule in place, its clear this is only the start for the young artist.

with just one 7inch release to their name in the form of the 1981 release, jive baby on a saturday night, the cult of the jellies was possibly accidentally assured with the long lost song being rediscovered by collectors and championed by sonic youth s thurston moore no less. picked up and reissued by the stellar trunk records in 2010, the b-side cut, however, was sadly overlooked. now emotional rescue are proud to license the conversation and remaster it especially for this rerelease. based around a simple drum and bass rhythm, interspersed with crowd noise, playful female vocal yelps and sprinkled with dub effects thrown in to the mix and you wouldn t probably think too much would be going for a track that the band put together in the last two hours of their studio time after jive baby had been completed. however, what you get is a killer gem of pop-punk-dub oddness that gets your head nodding to its infectious, repetitive rhythm laden with effects. with just this one (perfect) track available for license it seemed only right to hand it over to the in-house production team, apophenia, to do their increasingly trademark dubbed out reworking, this time in the form of a true, but respectful version for the flip. with both members of the jellies sadly now living overseas this piece of early 80s british dub as it were, can now be fully treasured for posterity while also, proving a nice little smokers delight.

for our next release we welcome back two of hamburg’s finest and most recent international exports: adana twins. last seen on our latest various artists compilation, the duo returns with three absolutely stunning tracks of low slung, infectious cuts blurring the lines between house and techno with an undeniable brush stroke of character the two are quickly becoming synonymous for. ‘flower of cane’ kicks things off in an almost sinister fashion with massive low end bursts and a fever inducing, single note that never stops rising culminating in a climactic crescendo of dance floor euphoria while ‘ortus’ takes a much more ‘up-beat’ approach with dreamy arpeggios and shimmering atmospherics laid over a pulsing bassline resulting in a gorgeous number ideal for a number of memorable moments. wrapping up the originals is the guaranteed summer anthem: ‘relentless fest. jeppe kjellberg’ where sultry vocals and lush aural artifacts launch sensations to uncharted new heights. not done yet, we asked none other than the brilliant andre lodemann to create his revision of ‘relentless feat. jeep kjellberg’ and he, as always, delivered big time. with not only one but two solid reworks of the original lodemann’s remixes need no description other than there is a vocal and a dub version to satisfy any dj’s sensibility. we hope you enjoy.

this is the first release from the sm records label which introduces you a great musical producer from russia, egor zakharov creating his music under the name of kip5. the places release consists of 4 pieces of his own played in dub techno style. the release is opened by a mysterious piece charming in its serenity, «here» which smoothly flows into a romantic, very gentle «there» track. at the other side of the release, you will continue your travelling to the «somewhere» composition which has pronounced deep sounding. at last, your exciting travelling will finish to the atmospheric «nowhere» track which can help you get rest, relax, and have a cup of coffee. while listening, you ll visit all those wonderful places and come back in great spirits. egor zakharov tells about his release: we often dream to be there, in a perfect place, where we, as we believe, must be, escape from ourselves and try to start a new life. as a result, we chance to be somewhere, and this place doesn t meet our expectations. then it occurs to us that there is nowhere to find it, and the only thing we can live for is something we have here and now.

molecules of the legion once again teams up with showbiz of d.i.t.c. for his debut ep “a bronx tale”. while showbiz handles production, molecules administers vocals along with appearances from dres (black sheep) and the legion. both cules and show deliver beats and rhymes as only bronx natives could. they carry on the tradition of dropping gritty neck snapping tracks that was birthed some 40 something years ago in their home town. the legion and d.i.t.c. have given us classics over the last few decades and this latest offering is sure to satisfy the craving of those looking for the real.

brightons boutique house label black key recordskicks off 2017 with a fantastic ep from label newcomer cinthie. cinthie is a well established force in berlin: as well as being a resident at key spots ipse and humboldthain club-where she spins heady vinyl only sets-she runs three much loved labels and collectives in beste modus, unison wax and beste freunde. as such, she is a true leader of the underground house scene who also runs a studio complex in berlin, and so is very much at the heart of the house conversation. kicking things off is the excellent house rhythms , a rugged, bass driven, deep house cut with flabby drums and snares and icy hi hats all sounding informed by classic deep house greats like ron trent. warm, soul infused pads emanate from the core and the whole unhurried affair really sucks you in with its cosy and romantic atmosphere. the second splendid offering is liberty, a much rawerand direct cut designed for peak time sets. again it is riddled with jazzy chords that have real soul, but the drums are exposed and banging and the whole thing barrels along at a sweat inducing pace. this is a typically classy offering from both artist and label that kicks off 2017 in real style.

for the past four years francesco leali kept busy running parachute alongside co-owners manfredi romano and thomas feriero, producing under different monikers and touring the globe as half of cw/a. finally back as clockwork, leali reveals a five track ep featuring some of his rugged music to date. a briery shift into foggier territories where leali explores layered sound-design and broken rhythms, something he had only hinted in his previous work. online entity depicts lealis hindrance with modern societys social networking obsession. in contrast to what these services were actually intended for, leali explains, they seem to have impacted a lot of people negatively, resulting in unnecessary resentments, misinformation and feelings of proximity when these tools can easily alienate you from reality. constantly worrying about how you want people to perceive you is absurd already, but for many of us this constant sharing has become the only way to achieve happiness, to be satisfied. in an era where all of this is getting out of hand its essential to remind yourself of the things that truly shape you as an individual. with online entity i aimed for feelings of release, mutating resentments into something positive - more physical. i imagined it as a soundtrack to an escape from these very situations. the release showcases this approach with five club-ready numbers filled with calculated, pounding drums and gloomy atmospheres, with only rare glimpses of hope scattered throughout. to round things up we mobilised fellow parachute affiliate ayarcana and serbian techno pro lag who both deliver two startling interpretations of escape sequence and rumination.

this is kollaps first full length album after having gained recognition from releasing vinyl only excursions on grade10 records and remixing work for darkstar on warp records. the record has been pressed on to 180 gram vinyl and is has been mastered at star delta. the album comes with a full colour glossy sleeve and centre labels which reflect the music within. they have had their music played by benji b as well as radio 6 and other more underground radio stations. their last release on grade10 got great reviews in the fader, who said i rarely have the occasion to use the word magnificent, but the releases a-sidean epic 7-minute number titled misery has squeezed all the other words out of my head.
