steve bicknell is currently having a moment. when you look at his recent releases, his growing number of gigs, his eye-catching collaborations and his new record label 6dimensions, it seems he’s feeling particularly inspired. resident advisor steve bicknell has been an integral and highly-important segment of the underground electronic scene since the early ’90s and has continued to expand his musical horizons through producing, promoting and playing” hyponik “bicknell has shaped a scene from the shadows for decades thanks to the legendary lost parties he co-ran, which brought djs like jeff mills and robert hood to the uk for the first time, as well as his own production work the vinyl factory an underground leader announces his return. his 6dimensions label seems to have reinvigorated him the arts desk.

for the first release feelings have enlisted iranian born, london-based producer kasra v, delivering an incredible slice of middle-eastern inspired house. on the a side is the early 90s inspired fantasy, a dance floor thumper with a tribal house feel you could imagine rolling out the speakers at a dreamscape party, followed by the dreamy pris providing a contrasting sunrise vibe to the prior track. on the flip is myth a steady piano-led builder inspired and written in the style of southern iranian tribal music, followed by a remix of the same track from legendary nyc producer cozmo d under his dream 2 science alias bringing a straighter dancefloor ready versioin with the heavy deep house flavours his d2s project is lauded for.

pacific horizons are outliers, largely unconcerned with much that goes on beyond their la studio. immersed in their own universe of sound, the pair cherry pick from genres to create their own raw, lo-fi take on what, if you must pin it down, can be defined as loosely balearic. the duos sound calls on various eras of pyschedelia through the years. from the scene s roots to the very modern but always circles back to the initial shamanic intention of mind altering ritual. drawing heavily on the raw and rugged west coast for inspiration they posses a sound entirely indigenous to their locality and peers. this stark individuality has brought the project to the attention of such seminal characters as francois k, andrew weatherall and david mancuso. pacific horizons are drawn back down to earth again by deus records for a rare excursion away from their pacific wizard foundation imprint, teeing up one side of an exclusive 7-. on remix duty peaking lights provide the perfect foil. the fellow west coast artists are kindred spirits in pushing against the norm but here bring some order to the release, segueing the raw ideas into a their own blissful, rolling balearic experience. equal parts melancholia and euphoria, burning stars dub version is entirely complimentary to the original track, giving space and structure to some of the more volatile elements of the original. anything pacific horizons put their name to exists to revel in the purity and energy of the original moment of creation, little if any editing is done once the song is whole, making them the perfect artists for this limited edition release full of spontaneity and ideas. pressed on 7 inch white vinyl in full picture sleeve.

opening the ep, black magic sets an optimistic tone for what is to come from this new label. intoxicatingly hypnotic and full of warmth, this track reminds us that it is always summer somewhere. if black magic is essential in warming a party up, god bless atheism is the perfect way to bring us softly down on the other side. a modern balearic anthem in the waiting, this is best enjoyed looking out to new horizons. b1 street sunbath sees ponty exploring more-techy territory whilst still retaining the hopeful feeling that forms the backbone of this ep. closing the ep, hidden object has a strong tribal feel which hooks the listener. using vocal chanting samples and simple repetitive melody lines, this is a perfect example of how less is often more in connecting with the dancefloor.

limited repress due to high demand on requests. eating records was born in the brussels underground scene, inspired by the idea of synthesizing two different horizons to get a beautiful concept. in the beginning it was simply the need to go back to roots and try to connect with the present and future, but eventually it ended up with a modern groovy label. the first release of the label was not that easy to find. the eclectic worlds of the two members did not really help them. but that was until they found jr from dallas - a talented dj producer from lille, owner of gourmand music recording - maybe food is the key... who knows ? jr has always been a forward-moving artist, but his music cannot - and should not - be mapped linearly. after releasing on labels as farris wheel recordings and greenhouse recordings, he had nowhere to go but backward for his new ep on eating records to its 90 old school beats and hypnotizing basses. phonical deep is gorgeous and evocative all the same. technival is stylish enough, and it is as restlessly creative as you would expect. it is followed by the hypnotic and beautiful remix of jay bliss of phonical deep - the eps final track. the fact is, jay bliss has managed to create something so refreshingly unique that trying to categorize and label his remix is rather dubious. he transformed the original melodic part to a blissful pad embellished with a repetitive rhythm spiced with tiny subtle details. it is easier to see this remix as the backbone of electronic music - simple and repetitive but never boring.

r&s keep things in the family with mpia3s brother tessela dropping his debut ep for the label. since 2011, ed russell has been moulding a style of dance music as tessela that has evolved to become a distinctly futuristic animal that is equal parts rave, jungle and techno as it incorporates classic breaks into delirious new mutations. the three tracks on this ep all follow on from his superb *hackney parrot* track but evolve his sound even further. nancys pantry combines bruising kick drums and some slick editing of the think break, before plunging headlong into thundering techno. horizons percolating hi hats and rough-hewn percussion roll off repeating chords that recall the heady days of rave. gateways uncomplicated arrangement of high hats, sub bass, siren like synths and quaking kick drums rattle through the tracks chassis and club soundsystems. early supporters to the tracks include ben ufo, pariah, surgeon, pearson sound and paul woolford, testement to what might be tesselas most lethal offering yet.

the second edition of the mosso series adheres to its archetypal plan, as alejandro mosso leads us forwards on his musical trek and through the grooves carved onto this record. for this new number, alejandro mosso decided to delve back into his archives and take a closer listen to some forgotten, unfinished pieces. some listeners will surely recognise certain bits of this record as they were part of mossos live performance years ago. this is however the first time they will be edited and see the light of day. on the a-side, aconcagua is a festive theme on which a magnetic marimba riff turns into an escalating melody, surrounded by a forest of ascending percussions - characteristic of mossos production – lightly floating around it. cashmere, the flip, was conceived while airborne on a flying carpet, half way above the indian subcontinent and below the countles gleaming stars. perfect instance of alejandro mossos talent, it is a subtle blend of hovering winds and crystallized textures. the bansuri flute and the clave go hand in hand to form reassuring horizons, the soundtrack for a longer moment of hope, greater perspective and spiritual transformation.

double standard records, the next chapter for gadi mizrahi (founder and one half of the visionary wolf + lamb project), is a vinyl only odyssey into revolutionary body-moving music. >wolf + lamb is a religion, double standard is a cult< gadi mizrahi, 2010. wolf + lamb is the label, production & dj partnership and series of events that has lately become the eye of the storm of the underground dance music scene. this year the w+l duo will be taking a break to focus on new adventures and the label will be on hiatus. while zev (wolf) takes some time in far corners of the world, gadi mizrahi (lamb) has been concocting some captivating solo material – check his spectral sound and simple releases out in march – and is proud to announce his own double standard records, a vinyl only imprint exploring new horizons of dancefloor music, pushing forward in quality and pursuing greater attention to detail.

nymfo has been a part of d&b for well over a decade. over the last 12 years, nymfo has been immersed in djing, in 2005 he won the best dutch d&b dj then went on to win the same title again in 2007. steve survival is a solo production unit and has had many releases on vibez, quarantine, horizons, play music, renegade hardware, critical, dnaudio and shogun ltd. it has had dj support from alix perez, sabre, storm, fabio, phil source, survival, marcus intalex, alley cat and zero t to name a few.

legendz records is the normal follow up of famous legendz parties which started in belgium three years ago . for their first release, they decided to invite two belgian producers from two different musical horizons and see how it goes . kolombo is famous for his electro house style with releases on king kong, turbo, systematic, karate, his own vice versa or loulou records. sierra sam is more into the minimal world with music on trapez ltd., einmaleins, his own toys for boys and soon contexterrior the two friends decided to mix their skills on three tracks: alive is based on a fat synth line and rolling bleepy percussions, articulated around a vocal sample. extra voices takes another vocal sample , but adds it a more acid synth line and some more percussive drum soundsscreaming lord is a more aggressive track with more noises and fast percussion lines..
