bleu nuit (bn) is glad to introduce you to its first release a night on planet earth (bn01) by barcelona-based italian artist flavio folco. known for his musical compositions on his late imprint fresh food (napoli), among others, flavio folco has also made a name for himself as a dj with multiple appearances alongside his friend joseph capriati. whereas a night on planet earth could have seen the light of the day in 2015, when lumièreslanuit (lln) got the demo through a friend, it s finally two years later that the four-tracks ep is finding his place on bleu nuit, and not just any as it is kicking this new project off and paving the way for other break & gangster beats.

during the mid-80s and early 90s movin’ records defined the new jersey sound. a skate-shop-turned-record-store run by the so-called “fairy godmother of house” abigail adams, movin’s first output was ‘i’ve got the music’ by boyd jarvis in 1987, followed by music from game changers blaze, kerri chandler, tony humphries and smack, straight up “jersey jams” that producers are still attempting to replicate to this day. still the movin’ records catalogue throws up gems that sound super fresh along with plenty of lightbulb moments of musical discovery.
for the most part movin’ records focused on soulful vocal tracks but they peppered a few deeper tracks into the catalogue too. this is one of those releases and one of the rarer titles to find from the label. produced by steve kelly and steve ‘lucky’ benson as 3 a.m., this was the only single under that group name, although they were involved in other productions from new jersey. deep chords, a heavy kick and a low-end bass form the backing for the repeated vocal line “i love this place”. the ‘place of worship’ mix brings an uplifting piano line to the forefront, whilst an organ line jams out through the track with a jazzy walking bassline holding the groove together.

chico buarque construcao revisited by l_cio is a beautiful debut project part of a doc series of releases combining classic brazilian names with doc artists and producers. l_cio (laercio schwantes) the man with the transverse flute known for some of the freshest and unique tracks coming out from brazil is behind this gemstone. increasingly building a legacy of fans following his live performances and recent releases on doc records (vazio, traffic, people talk, schwantes), this man is a non-stoppable 30 hours machine gun. on this long awaited 2-track limited edition vinyl release, l_cio and gui boratto kept the roots of this classic track construcao. however they added all the proper elements of a techno dance floor knockout. by inserting malicious baselines, flutes and strings they generated aggressive melodies while keeping all characteristics of this epic song. voted as the greatest brazilian song by rolling stones magazine, construcao was originaly recorded by chico buarque in 1971 with production by roberto menescal. released during military dictatorship, chico buarque criticizes the way of life of the brazilian workers, comparing them to machines. the song is known for its interchangeable last words, used as if they were pieces of a board game, as said by buarque. generatiions apart, construcao (l_cio & k_ri version) and construcao (l_cio & borattos deconstructed mix) are the first ever authorized remixes in over 45 years. l_cio the latest dance floor brazilian soldier, a menacing builder of beats completes an epic turnnig point by editing and lapidating a classic poetry. with a b side dub version beutifully crafted by label boss gui boratto, this limited edition pearl is finally here for our joy!

1st release in alden tyrell s latest project: vorm variaties, a 5 release series consisting of tracks recorded in the last 2 years. the vorm variaties- tracks were a style excercise for tyrell, flexing his producermuscle while health issues forced him to stop touring. initially he had no intention to release these tracks but we found them so good that we were almost forced to start this series. all tracks selected are variations on classic techno forms, using classic style ingredients and the 909. all 5 variaties are different in style, yet all homogenous, all with alden tyrell s sound signature... on point production skills and stripped down arrangements.

die idee zu diesem album kam victoria legrand und alex scally als sie feststellten, dass es eine vielzahl an songs gibt, die es nie auf eines der sechs studioalben der band geschafft haben. in den meisten fällen lag das einfach an dem konzept der verschiedenen werke. der älteste song in dieser sammlung, -rain in numbers-, stammt aus dem jahr 2005, als die band gegründet wurde. andere songs wurden auf tour geschrieben oder während verschiedener sessions aufgenommen. mit -chariot- und -baseball diamond- finden sich zwei songs auf dem album, die bisher unveröffentlicht sind und während der aufnahmen zu -depression cherry- sowie -thank your lucky stars- entstanden sind.

the snooze fest is over and we’re back in the saddle with the first output from colin la plante aka the mole aka half owner of this imprint. he’s been touring up a storm and playing out a lot of new music we’re excited to share with you this year.

this four tracker definitely shows off “new directions” for the mole – nothing too outlandish mind you, but the path he chose with the title and crowd favourite “gelb grun blau” definitely has these tracks leaning towards the centre of a dj sets vs. beginning or end…spiralling kick drums with a fine grind blend of digital synths, analog synths, drum machines and the occasional samples here. vape-house anyone?
the closer “back in the studio game” is a beatless one created just for the sunrises of your life.

pt.ii sees tale of us collaborating with ovend, a french producer whose only prior output is a pair of eps for amandra s ahrpe label. mathew jonson, hunter/game and keith carnal are also among those making their afterlife label debut, while recondite, woo york and aether are back after previously appearing on the label.

arvid whetman has plenty going for him at the moment. as sexazoid he s dropping all kinds of off-kilter machine beats on excellent labels like born free, while as your planet is next he builds on appearances on junk yard connections, waving hands, opal tapes, studio barnhus and klasse to deliver this chirpy four-tracker to acid waxa. from the twee vocals to the playful synths and straight up drums, this is club music crafted for an immediate hit. whetman makes this approach work magnificently though, liberally applying his musical personality to lo-fi deep house and roughshod acid, with heartbreaker being a firm favourite thanks to its fulsome 303 bassline and hooky vocal mantras.

ltd 50% deal ...significant success for artists is based on two things: talent and timing. dave.i.d has talent by the spadeful but his timing may also be spot on. when dave.i.d released his debut single in march 09 he was probably too ahead of the game but now as we enter the last third of 2010 it feels right on the money. daves initial release went down very well though. paul lester in the guardians important new band of the day feature totally lost it, calling dave.i.d >totally brilliant< and dubbing him >aphex timbaland<. his single was voted single of the year in dazed & confused and made the end of year round-up in drowned in sound. now with the amazing zola jesus setting up so well around the world and the dark electronica coming more to the fore outside its nerd roots, dave.i.d sounds perfectly in tune with the unhappy, troubled sound of now.

this june session victim return to delusions of grandeur imprint with their third studio album. listen to your heart is the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in san francisco’s room g studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 lp see you when you get there. here we present the second of three lp samplers containing four tracks each, cut nice and loud for the vinyl crew. shadows gets things rolling with a classic session victim housey groove, looped up pads and hooky spoken vocal samples. filtered string stabs bring a warm and soulful edge whilst dub delay touches add a floaty element to get lost in. next up we have unchained which drops the bpm’s for a widescreen, slo-mo jam clouded in a smokey haze with jazzy touches, recalling the halcyon days of pork recordings. flipping over we have a brand new lp version of previous single up to rise, another sublime slice of blissed-out house music with a wonderful organic and live sound palette. echoing rhodes licks join the lead guitar tune for a balearic beauty which will be stuck in your head long after the sun sets. closing this second sampler we have over and over, which winds things down somewhat for an inspired, bass-led roller. an impeccable demonstration of retro-inspired yet forward thinking house and downtempo music, listen to your heart sees session victim at the top of their game.

“once in a long, long while...” is the follow up to 2014’s “0”, which earned karazija a large new audience after his music was discovered by iconic japanese video game creator hideo kojima. kojima used low roar’s “i’ll keep coming” and “easy way out” on two high-profile trailers in 2016 for his death stranding video game starring norman reedus, mads mikkelsen, and director guillermo del toro.
