the imogen label launched back in september with a pair of ilija rudman remixes of london acid jazz favourite brand new heavies. this second release sees them change tack somewhat, adopting an archival focus to dig out two tracks by croatian hero ilan kabiljo. known mostly for his 90s work, kabiljo comes from legendary croatian music stock - his father was composer and musician alfons alfi kabiljo. this expression 12inch sees imogen dig through the ilan archives for two rare and unreleased tracks records in 1990, with a side cut cool nights a supple midnight saunter through jazz funk that highlights kabiljo s compositional class. golden days is just as good as sounds like a loving homage to the 80s.

label founder mire composes the debut release on nuthe recordings. hailing from east london he sets the tone for the label with his own vision of techno and experimental music. the first track on the ep is distorted silhouettes a dark pulsating, bass heavy techno cut. sitting on the flipside is entropy this is more melodic, with a twisted analogue synth lead throughout and a pumping 4x4 kick. the final track is a haunting droney soundscape which which cuts like a razor at points and tails off as an outro into whats coming next on the imprint.

philadelphia-based producer maxine & cleo joins the argot fold with his mad blanc ep. the follow up to his “pendergast ep” for material image sprung from a few weeks of feverish production during the spring of 2014 and represents the duality of the kansas native’s sound. side a is full of gifts for djs in the form of “flynn rhythm”’s relentlessly jacking house grooves and the blurry-eyed deep house pleasures of the title track. flipping the record reveals the more fragile side of maxine & cleo, courting home listeners and after hours crowds on the spirit-conjuring spectral house cut “mind is spinnin” and the dreamy “proto”, gliding on thrumming pads and gilded with vocal slivers.

solimano returns to his unlock recordings imprint with two mellow house cuts, featuring a pair of imaginative reinterpretations from fellow argentinean’s barem and deep mariano. originally established to promote latin american productions in 2004, unlock recordings has since hosted the likes of jorge savoretti and guti. its founder, gonzalo solimano, has proven himself time again as a label owner, dj and producer, working as a ‘mr. x’ at red bull academy for almost ten years when not performing at the likes of creamfields buenos aires, south american music conference and space world tour. ‘learjet’ is a low-slung groover complete with organic samples, bass guitar licks and a hypnotically looped vocal sample. up first on remix duties, minus regular barem subdues the raw textures of the original to generate an understated rendition, whereas get slow founder deep mariano takes it down a percussive route where an infectious rhythm is accompanied by dub inspired synths. finally, ‘calling again’ is a sensual deep house cut featuring the vocals of sophie taylor, known for her collaboration with mathias kaden, among many others.

one sided 7inch color blue. with one track... probably french only can understand the joke. its a song from gainsbourg called le poinconneur des lilas transformed into the partyguy from les lilas. kind of an anthem for free party guys. a bit like the one night in hackney, but in a free party french version. as the sound was nasty we went and cut this properly in a decent studio, and sound is really amazing compared to the you tube version. a superb little collectable tune. enjoy!

toronto hustles kick their ep off with the classic house sound of in your mind . mr fingers style bassline over chunky chords and a well chosen rasta vocal sample builds an infectious house groove. just enough is perfect terrace material and will keep those early morning deep house heads happy. the raw cut brings a tougher groove to the ep, reminiscent of that roper mid 90 s us house sound from chicago.

made from jacking drums, an unusual live soul sample, and a relentless, minimal arrangement make this a very hot dj tool. adding to that is three high quality remixes from techno don, stephen brown, detroits antwon faulkner, and a deeper house vibe by cloudmaster weed.
artwork for rf trax is created by vancouver based artist vasho pekar. the unusual method of creation involves photographing projected images and text onto objects, there is no photoshop involved in these images, they are each an unaltered photograph.

joss is a ukrainian producer with a deep understanding of house. he has released his seductive wares on labels like this one as well as get high music and high-jack. a long time vinyl lover, he has played intimate clubs and vast festival all of europe and is now in fine form in production mode, too. opener solely is a deep, shuffling cut with icy hi hats, subtle cymbal splashes and a tight bassline than gurgles and bubbles invitingly. muttered vocals add an all important human element and its a fine effort, once more from the man.

arts transparent presents one of the former solid artist of the label, with his other psudonim traumer. cold water ep is the result of the art of simple and effective chords with grooves. a great record that everyone should have in their bag. the record is presented on transparent colored light blue vinyl 12 inch.

while jamming and improvising, their way of working invented itself: programming and playing everything live while recording directly to 5 minute audio tapes. the whole post process of mixing and editing is cut out and the results are vivid snapshots of improvised live tracks organised into little stories. combining these stories results in an electronic trip through a galaxy of sound, experienced from the front seat of an old russian spaceship with a view to kill.

the inaugural release from edible comes from lord leopard. direct from his studio, somewhere in the depths of rural cornwall, he brings some serious heat to the first release. mark of passion is a stellar slice of face melting, twisted tech-funk whilst fantastically well is a jazz heavy slugger, the good lord gets deep into the groove, flipping vocal samples and insane breakdowns for a very individual and unique sounding cut.

finale sessions is excited about this release from knoxville, tennessee artist alex falk. he has been on our radar for some time now so we are pleased to share this with you! the a1 track -an ever- is one of our favorite tracks on the ep, with dreamy pads and monstrous stabs making for a fantastic floor-stomper. rounding out the a side is rrecs, a deep techno cut with clattering chords and moving drums and claps. b1 track what is free is another solid peak time killer with thick stabs and cut-up vocals making for a perfect finale sessions release. finally, br56 brings up the tempo while chilling out the vibe with dubbed-out chords, nasty filter work and a sound floating somewhere between techno and house.

insula records presents their first release with the debut ep of cyspe (robin koek), half of the artefakt duo and known for releases on delsin and field records. it features three killer cuts. amnesia opens things up intense with sub-heavy layers of drums, synths and icy hi-hats all adding up to a steady and hypnotic groove. it is a cut that travels deep down the rabbit hole and takes you with it. transmission is then a soothing and blissful interlude with beautiful, floating chords all underpinned by a menacing bass line that grows loud and quiet as things unfold. lastly, passing is deep, spaced out and atmospheric with subtle pads and rolling drums that locks you into a perfectly endless groove. this is a varied ep that starts off what is sure to be an interesting new label.

lanthan audio is back after their debut ep that featured edit-select now with their sophomore release from deepbass, scottish dj, producer and label owner of informa records. for this ep deepbass delivers one original cut, alto which has been remixed by aegis, reggy van oers and ness. uniform to the deepbass style, alto is an ethereal atmospheric track with a punchy, rolling bass, which takes you on a voyage through the cosmos. aegis, on the other hand, takes the tracks potent bassline and adds the aura of breakbeat to the elegant atmospheres. on the flip side rvo adds a hypnotic energy to the track as the elements continue to build to the crowning point letting you down nice and smooth. for the final take ness adds his own style as the punchy bass lingers he is still able to keep the mood serene and delicate. all in all a captivating way for each artist to express their own style on one ep. pressing on translucent dark blue and smokey marbled vinyl.

la nature malade brings along a brand new album of analog electronics for 2015 from a well known uk producer operating under a new alias, aquariun. eden and after is a 9 track album on a limited hand numbered pro dubbed blood red cassette in an edition of 100 worldwide. crossing styles and opening with the sub aquatic funk of title track side one takes you through banging electro on energy in constitution, the dark dub techno of to the letter of my oath and leaves you disappearing through a black hole on the path of helium rain. on side two a slice of dark, heavy instrumental hip hop gets things started with where is that perception? next we get into some straight 4/4 club techno with cut up drums and bumping baseline of mi dominante before moving through some blissed out detroit vibes on earth looking inwards, aliens talking through fm synthesis on collected stills and finally closing out on a rough as you like tr606 driven electro groover. look out for more to come from aquariun in 2016.

marquis hawkes returns with a new ep for houndstooth, sweet. pairing up a sugary r&b sample with his signature swinging but slamming beats, opening cut when i get home is a return to the flavour of last year s summer smash cant find a reason, although this time around, it s more tracky and introspective. next up, a different facet of hawkes production talents is reprised with at the witness stand, a trippy take on classic ny freestyle. opening the b-side, title track sweet furthers hawkes trademark rough and ready house sound with distinctive vocal hooks and a hip-twitching rhythm, whilst bringing up the rear, what a relief is a raw but inescapably funky drum workout that would make the likes of traxmen & eric martin proud.

the two dirty birdies from hageby are back with the back in the day ep! the title cut flips a classic brooklyn funk sample into a deep house burner, last night really gives it to us (baby), and estrelar showcases the groovy disco side of the wo. rounding out the ep is a daniel leseman remix that reworks the title track into a completely fresh production, bringing the deep dance floor heat for which the fouk member and outplay records co-boss is known. all killa no filla!

pete dafeet unleashes the third single from his critically acclaimed debut album the root, the soul, in what will be his labels final release. after a decade in business, baltimore is a fitting epitaph for lost my dog: a languid and lazy deep house cut that makes for a classic end-of-night jam. if that isnt enough, house legend charles webster drops by with a trio of deep and dubby remixes to help the label sign off with a real flourish.

opener equilibrium two from buitendijk is a perfectly streamlined and serene bit of spaced out, hypnotic techno. gentle synth pulses roam about the airwaves, left and right, up and down, as ethereal pads glow behind. it s heady dancing music, whilst liem s contact is also perfectly aimed at both head and heel. it is full of lick synth pulses that bubble and boil as watery droplets and ticking hits also colour the most subliminal groove. closer this is all you need is a more textured, frazzled cut with frosty lines and rickety pads working you into a trance. rich drums and clever bass filtration add dynamics and tension and so like everything else here the end result is hugely captivating.

a new four track ep by hexagon aka conforce on his own imprint. doing what he does best. making deep imaginary techno music with otherworldly authentic atmospheres without any concessions. the title track sucks you into desolate interstellar territories paying hommage to 606 rhythms with emotive strings on top that determine the total atmosphere of this killer advanced electro cut. human meets machine in it s purest form. pitch black leans on accurate programmed heavy broken percussive patterns and is the most functional track of the ep. functional but it s haunting atmosphere lifts this to a different dimension. continuum dives deeper into sonic territory with a mysterious stealth missional vibe caused by it s unpredictable sparkling crispy effects and mysterious pads. systematic repetition leans on pulsating modular bleeps and dubby basses and is the most techno orientated cut of the whole ep. it wouldn t be a conforce record if there weren t any strings and pads attached to it.

a highly regarded producer and musician who used to be in the midst of the ny metro breeding reactor that spectatuclarely revived and modernized disco and italo disco since the turn of the century and added some hotliped live brass to their platters and whose sought after releases under his own appear appear much to rarely dons his house cloak and dagger for 3 sneaky new chapters on story. not wasting any time on unnecessary nicety the a-side track will send up a whole colony of ants right up your pants riding on a steamrolling percussive disco groove garnished with cut up vocals and fx trickery. b2 is another chicago style wedding of disco and house with a jubilant, string backed female vocal snippet tweaked over a heavy groove while the first track on the flip is a subterrenean, groaning dub house affair that reminds of a slowed down john ciaffone banger. no matter which chapter you jump to here it puts you right into the action.

polar is a similarly physical track with massive, monstrous kicks, reverberating synth lines and a barreling sense of groove that washes over you like a braking wave. finally, warrior charge is another physical and functional cut with robust drums, oversized hi hats and woodpecker like hook that demands you stomp and head bang from start to finish.
