we are happy to introduce a new release and a new project from ben vedren and chez damier, a new collaboration that has been in the making for some time now. side aa1 presents a unique sound in its vibe, kind of a minimal track. the french discussion/vocal in the background adds another dimension. you don t need to speak the language to understand what s going on, but you must wonder at some point: do i understand french or is it the music that made me understand them? an -organ- sound intervenes towards the end bringing power and light to the hall. it s eleven minutes of pure music! while -aa- is composed of two different remixes of a different track, -berlin nights in paris- it can probably be called the house anthem. it starts strong with some acid sound and is filled with a lot of wonderful elements. like a gourmet meal, you wonder if the track shouldn t have been at least three times longer to satisfy the gluttony of the listen. the techno remixes of the track. it s a perfect example of detroit meets house. techno track can, with no doubt, feed and drive the dance floor. no need for more than five words to describe it � it s a serious techno track.

�mind fiction�, kaczor s first release, comes with organic artwork such as a growing plant cover and simple yet sleek thai design inspired by a recent tour to southeast asia. the ep serves as a perfect example for kaczor s own artistic vision: moody textures and mellower grooves meeting his trademark raw and gritty, forceful attack-laden release of rolling drums, bass and percussion, pointing to kaczor s own roots in the more stormy outbacks of broken beats or uk bass. first track �balance� starts off with a softer, textured soundscape, nicely balancing melancholy synth waves and drum rattles into an atmospheric opener with a slowly oncoming and unfurling, melodic twist. the title track �mind fiction� more closely follows kaczors very own signature formula of a simple and driving bassline followed by an evocative build-up rushing into an emotional, cathartic breakdown. �asta� might be kazcor s most daring and trippy production to date: an intense mixture between hypnotic, hard hitting thumps and thunderous rolling drums taking the listener into the electrifying whirl of a night-time storm, where the tense and dense, humid atmosphere culminates in a monsoon-like rainfall of spiralling reverb � marking a fitting crescendo for this impressive debut on kaczor s now very own sonic ground.

red ember records is still legendary in certain circles despite shutting up shop 15 years ago. after some time out of the public eye, though, ewan jansen himself is still very much in business, and here he is with four brand new cuts on his debut for chez damier�s inner balance label. after the appropriately pastoral intro to �harvest� we dive headlong into a flurry of vibrant, detroit-influenced programming of the kind kept alive all these years by rei loci and kirk degiorgio. �sines of life� takes a well-earned breather on the flip, its laid-back setting and all-enveloping bass a massage for the weary body and soul. finally the mood turns playful on �square dance�, the chopped, breaksy and off-key groove completely at home alongside uk technicians norken, herbert and ben nevile. it�s rare for people to stay on their game for this long but, as this ep aptly demonstrates, ewan jansen is no ordinary musician.

rising label 04 is coming with a very complete ness ep which includes a ben gibson remix. >chronoscope< is the intro track that opens the release, a beautiful landscapes piece where ness shows his love and dexterity for the ambient music. following, >pantropy< is already starting with a heavy kick, far voices layered between the percussions and a sweet melody developing and coming up with that >trancey< touch that ness is able to do. on the b side comes >uchronia<, the track from where the release take the name, a strong broken track with shaped and dynamic percussions where some >chronoscope< landscapes are used flowing as the track goes on. to close the ep ben gibson delivers a classy >uchronia< remix going simple but effective, a perfect balance between gibson style and ness track that totally works out on the floor and makes the prefect closing track for that release.

concrete music is once again supporting an emerging techno talent of the parisian scene. the record label behind the pioneering boat parties of the same name is welcoming prolific french producer ben vedren for the 7th reference of its high-end catalogue. equally dabbling into ableton teaching or sound art installations (for renowned institutions in paris and rome, among others), ben is also building up a definite career in production that first took off with an ep on minibar and a remix of carl craigs classic bug in the bassbin. immersed in contemporary classical music, techno and various house subgenres, he claims a diversity thats been showcased in all its subsequent interventions on labels such as eklo or balance...

we start with the first shigan remix from new up and coming artist charley delholm and let me tell you it is fantastic piece with such depth and understanding, its pads and chords are the making of what good dance music should sound like.

bxl003 is the third release of the artist-run brussels based label bxl. this third release by simon halsberghe features a collaboration with sagat (real name wiet lengeler), who previously released on the brussels� label vlek and had his music included in the fabric mixes of both ben klock and joris voorn. the track is called the set-up and is a relentless sawtooth rave tune that finds it�s balance between the heydays of belgian techno and more contemporary �hi-fi� attitudes towards functional yet idiosyncratic dance tracks. on the b-side space tom sounds is a deeper and more hypnotic trip with lush broad pads that provide a space for the mind as well as sonic pressure on the body. the last track, snared, takes things into breakbeat territory. with razor sharp snares and a pulsating baseline this track lives somewhere in the venn diagram overlap between rave, front 242 and an air raid siren going off.

utopia cloak arrives on film with six track ep, marina gardens. utilising both electronic & acoustic components, the british producer crafts hazy, dynamic electronica with a decidedly emotive bent. the music explores a curious production aesthetic - at once half sunk and at the same time gloriously crisp and direct. caustic drum machine hits underpin the majority of the work, compete with polyrhythmic rolls & glitches, while softly warping synth lines occupy the majority of the remaining sonic space. rather than working explicitly with nostalgia, utopia cloak makes more subtle references to the classic sounds of yore - riffing on downtempo & idm with gentle and considered nuance, eking out arcane hooks & rich melodies with a pleasing focus on compositional structure & songcraft. contrast is the key here, though - and utopia cloak works hard to find the balance between metallic per-cussion strikes and wide-angle instrumental elements, avoiding chaos in favour of a lush, rewarding lis-tening experience.

south london label and party series troy town is proud to present the first release in 3 years from warren brown aka wbeeza, insanely talented south london producer and 1st generation pioneer of what has become affectionately known in dance music as the peckham sound . djs, producers and musicians such as henry wu, bradley zero and chaos in the cbd have added to the wealth of a deeply musical community but it was the likes of brown and another se15 local, el-prevost, who first put the area on the dance music map. although he s resistant to using the word house too often about his music, the swing nods to detroit and chicago while the links to friends and collaborators, delano smith, mike agent x clark and scott grooves are clear. progressing through a musical heritage that has seen him produce across grime, hip-hop, drum n bass and techno but it s his signature low slung, heavy-on-groove and atmosphere productions that have garnered the respect of peers and critics whilst his popular and energetic live sets have seen him tour extensively around the world for the past 8 years. this 3-track ep covers a variety of moods and situations. opening with the od, a heady march to peak time on the dancefloor which has featured heavily in live sets over the last 2 years. the bassline bubbles tantalisingly as it edges through a kinetic, digital riff that sticks with you long after the lights go up. grove park is so low slung that the snare sounds like it might fall out of sync at any moment while the lead synth leads you on a drunk walk home, at times holding it s line before stumbling over a pitch bend and veering to find its balance. bizzle boogie is equal parts gritty, midwest-influenced bounce track and shimmering eyes closed rave moments.

white on white is an absorbingly dynamic, multi-layered album of improvisations made on the seminal ppg wave synth, inspired by the work, life and theories of the great, if forgotten, british constructivist artist marlow moss (1889-1958): a radical, gender-bending british jewish lesbian and innovator of non-figurative art who was a then-contemporary influence on piet mondrian, with whom she worked alongside from the late 1920s as part of the abstraction-creation artists association in paris, until the nazi�s forced her from mainland europe back to england, where she settled in the far west of cornwall.

over 3 years ago, casey tucker was thrust into the limelight after 15 years in the shadows. never truly getting the recognition for is detroit influenced and post rave sound in the 90s, for those that knoe reissued some of casey s classic material and unearthed some gems on dat in 2013. fast forward to the current day and a recent treasure trove was uncovered and some fresh dats untouched since the late 90s were discovered! ben promptly bought a dat player on ebay and shipped it to casey s home for the un-dusting to commence. fttk has worked with casey to present another round of authentic material spread across a further three eps. the track carpet dancer has been in demand since the fine balance recordings gained deserved attention. originally featuring as the a side on the very first fine balance ep, it evokes all of the emotions that caseys music can muster. juxtaposition is a slower groovy effort with meandering chords, trademark fizzy percussion and topped off with a lush string finale. whatever comes to mind rounds off the ep with a rolling percussive bassline, delicate arps and smooth sweeping pads.

ypy is the work of osaka based koshiro hino. having recently released on labels such as nous, his own label birdfriend, and the legendary em records koshiro now presents the 7 track lp 2020 for where to now? records. the lp leads with the slow building, off kilter title track 2020,where flurries of eastern horns skitter beneath evolving layers of wonked yet beautifully balanced percussive movements, coming off like a technoid homage to the fourth world works of eno & hassel. as is the case with much of hinos music, as the piece develops it takes on heavier and heavier modes of experimentation and excitement turbines whirr and fizz alongside layers and layers of percussion, constantly teetering on the edge of no-wave breakdown whilst never losing sight of the rhythmic backbone, recouping from every moment of collapse with total grace.

the second release on our recently launched label comes from no other than our unique ricardo villalobos, under his germanized moniker richard wolfsdorf. besides being a world touring dj and headlining the best clubs and festivals around the planet, he has been a reference producer for everyone interested in forward thinking dance music over the last one and a half decades. at mdrnty we all love his music, dj sets and personality and he has been a key player at our events for many years, so it is with great honour that we welcome him on our new label. faithful to his style, he offers us an over 20 minutes length song divided in two sides. featuring canadian singer beaver sheppard, fiva is a mind bending minimalistic trip. beavers mumbling voices add the perfect balance to ricardos abstraction and hypnotism. once more ricardo shows us how much can be said with only a few elements and how deep it is possible to dive and wonder into his sparse music landscape.

�narcotic romance� is a free-basing discofunk jam that sounds like it�s been found in a time capsule on the shore of lake garda, buried deep beneath the ruins of the cosmic club. �summer on repeat� is a slipping and sliding slice of liquid techno that deftly balance playfulness and pathos, with a real emotional undercurrent belying it�s punchy wonkiness. �sun sign� combines the wonk and the disco from both of the preceding tracks, and slows them down to menacing effect, with a chugging discordance that is very correspondant.

a side track ��1840&#8242,� (feat. contrapunct) is the result of taking a violin built by jean-baptiste vuillaume in the year 1840, played by our in-house virtuoso now known as contrapunct and making a sample kit / sound kit with it yes, this means all the sounds you hear on this song are sourced from an old and beautiful violin. using original recordings combined with different manipulation techniques, the trio deliver to the plate over 12 minutes of intensity. one can explain it like this perhaps���.. you are high in the blue sky walking a high wire over an ocean of beautiful coral reef, still maintaining balance, but looking down at the view beneath and thinking- �if i got to go- there cannot be much better ways!

continuing a sublime run of form for the label, the fourth outing on the lopasura imprint, is yet another classy trio of heady, analogue machine laden masterpieces. opening up with �out of the fog�, the familiar acidic arpeggio and crisp hits we�ve grown to love from benedikt frey, dance unwittingly along before being opened up by long, cinematic pads drenching the track with an emotion and grandeur so synonymous with his music. complimenting the a side, the looming intent �wolves� adopts from the off evolves quickly into a driving, hypnotic and beautifully crafted piece that�s a true heads down, eyes-shut techno battle weapon. rounding off the ep on the b side is the exceptional �lights�. an unsettling, caliginous whir of industrial drones balances the tribal, percussive elements almost depicting a lost ship crashing over the swells of the ocean as it clings on to futile hope of finding the lighthouse. it meanders and threatens before an incredible synth hook ebbs in and takes over momentarily, before calmly simmering as the storm passes. never before has love pain sunshine and rain been more perfectly encompassed.

william thurman aka royer follows up two astounding releases for material image with a deep, curdling ep of wandering house for lobster theremin. picking up where his last excursions left off, collectively finds royer on typically dreamy form, taking micro-thought experiments and carving them into evolving, metamorphic journeys that capture as much the ambience of late night paris as the spirit of us house music. to even the balance, german newcomer trp fires up the cannons for a tough, bouncing remix on the b2. crackling and chugging with dust-coated drums and pads, this is a serious floor-banging rework right here. original artwork comes from royer himself, with full artwork matte sleeve, warm red centre labels and a mind-bending b&w a4 insert.

from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. it is loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts.
olivier boogie returns to the fold with i know you care ep, the follow up to to his provocative first ep, wd27. the spectrum is as wide as one would expect from the famed dutch selector, uptempo and high energy cuts include the swirling speed of come inside and crescendo building loops of i know you care. to balance, we slow down for deep sexiness found between the notes of how high and rollerboogie funk of watch your step.

modernista records reaches it�s fifth release and it�s over to paul bennett again with a pair of impressively varied productions. * on before off* is stripped to the bare bones techno with ever contorting razor-sharp arpeggios. as a counter balance, * although sometimes appear* is deep, emotive, melodic house with sound system-shaking bottom end.
