ben jacobs aka crackazat first made a name for himself when he was still living in bristol and released on ep on the city s futureboogie label, which has also signed music from the likes of julio bashmore, crazy p and outboxx. early in his career crackazat was also the official warm up act for an at the time up and coming artist called floating points, who now needs no introduction as one of the world s leading electronic music producers. moving to sweden shortly after the futureboogie release, crackazat made contact with the local talk owners mad mats and tooli, and after a couple of single/ep releases signed his debut solo album crescendo. the last couple of years crackazat has had an explosion of global popularity, which has led to playing gigs all over the world, and releasing tracks and remixes on labels ranging from josh wink s ovum, joey negro s z records and eureka in japan. classically trained with a strong jazz influence, crackazat has a distinctively individual sound that fuses funk with soulful vocals and the electronic bass music associated with his former home of bristol. eloquent and intelligent, rainbow fantasia is a masterpiece that showcases one of electronic music s most exciting talents.

musica altra is a brand new label exploring the underground scene of world music. musica altra s first release is this ep by the (great) jazz saxophone improviser and experimenter gianni denitto, who s been travelling the globe performing and recording sounds in every state he visited. here is a preview of his upcoming album including a remix by the superb producer and music lover japan blues. close your eyes and let your journey begin.

umeko ando (1932-2004) was a folk singer from japan. she is a representative of the ainu culture on the hokkaido island in the north of japan. iuta upopo was released on her last cd upopo sanke in 2003, produced by oki kano (oki dub ainu band). upopo is the name of a particular singing style which involves repetition, while iuta simply means song. umeko ando performs this minimalistic vocal in a brittle, emotional manner which is framed by a slow, percussive pulse and oki’s tonkori patterns (the tonkori is a string instrument of the ainu). when pingipung’s andi otto toured japan in 2017, he came across this enchanting, folkloristic and danceable song in a dj set of a friend. he made contact with oki kano who agreed to license the track from his own label chikar studio. it is pressed on vinyl for the first time. this single is part of pingipung’s ongoing concentrical series of 7inches. we are very pleased to have a m.rux remix on the b side. he is not only a brilliant original producer, as his ep in the hold (ynfnd 2016) has proved, his claim to fame is a sublime collection of edits & cuts (for free on his bandcamp) which skillfully takes classics by nina simone, townes van zandt and others to the slowhouse dancefloor. his remix adds a gliding subbass, a kickdrum and occasional claps to the enhanced percussive structures of the original. umeko ando’s vocals adapt seamlessly to m.rux’s powerful electronic production

japan’s hokuto sato is back on his own aura music with three hypnotic techno-house. on the a side, we’ve got 2 tracks composed of rich layers of concrete sounds and strange voice samples over tight drums and percussions. on the flip “awayuki (light snow)” is a good example of how piano house can be twisted and stripped down for modern dance floors.

tokyo based techno label human lessons is proud to announce our very first vinyl release of confusion. this ep is quite deluxe because it s the exactly a year ago the label has officially started and thus we wanted to do something special this time. the boss of the label emika elena worked two tracks with one of the best producers in japan ryogo yamamori. human lessons welcomes great producers as remixers, half of the hiss:1292 duo swiss producer opuswerk, who releases for dement3d, and farceb is one of the most promising newcomers in argentina, he recently provided his podcast for polegroup. the ep contains 4 tracks, things kick off with paranoid is a perfect track for peak time. paradox is simultaneously deep and unique, opusweak remix is for later hours and farceb delivers a minimalistic remix.

originally released in 1982, including tracks written for crosstalk (a science fiction thriller film made in australia) and other electronic themes, it was written, performed and recorded by chris neal in his home studio, using roland system 700 and roland mc8. in 1982 there were only a few system 700s ever produced and roland was more interested in promoting their more commercial system 100m (that s why it was credited on the 1982 original cover to give them a plug). the system 700 was developed by taro kakahashi and his team in japan as a direct challenger to the moog modular system. the orbeatize remastered reissue also includes a special bonus track remixed and produced in 2017 by jolly mare.

rrwd is a label collaboration between ta-ku/ repeat pattern & jakarta records. charlie abbott is a 25 year old from boston, ma.living in aomori, japan who teaches high school english. i made goes to math class, over the course of about one year (from fall 2015 fall 2016ish). as for influences, i d say i was trying to go for the dirt of early quasimoto mixed with the melody of emerald fantasy tracks era lone, but i m having trouble describing it in terms of larger generic genre terms.i feel like it has a beat tape structure, and is definitely rooted in hip hop//dance music, but isn t really danceable or meant for the club.i d probably describe it as headphone music?

the label from japan “florklang” has started up in 2016. now florklang is releasing the second vinyl by producer tk lawrence from brooklyn who debut from irish cavalier and played actively in dub pistols. the records include “they all float down here” that he expressed the influence of horror-core into creepy organ sound. also you could hear everywhere the taste of hip-hop and jazz from “tribute to where we come from” and “rap dinosaurs” in side b. the record includes 4 other various tracks that you could feel the new york abundant scene where he brought up. further more each track based on akai s950 and analogue machines when it has created.

danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen’s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum’s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven’s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

grand ancestor presents our fifth release, featuring no harm, a sound system weapon from american bass warrior malleus. despite it’s name, this a side will damage speakers and steal the air from dance floors with it’s serious bass weight. the track goes in with a triplet shuffle rhythm and a mosaic of perfectly treated samples and sounds, weaving a sonic spell. we reached to japan for the remix, and enlisted part2style to flip the original with a truly unique and inspiring interpretation. this record is worthy of the rinse! no repress, vinyl only.

blend architect is a techno producer out of japan in the lineage of dj nobu or ken ishii. uncloud - his very first release - is composed by 2 movements with 2 variations each. cloud 1.1 sets the initial atmosphere for 1.2 to jump in and offer a more tense body that will play deeply with our intellect and physicality. an apparent minimal universe but full of subtle details. cloud 2.1 opens the b side with a futuristic high voltage cut. finally, cloud 2.2 brings the time back to present tense and the dance continues!

over the last fifty years few musicians or performers have created as monumental and uncompromising a body of work as that of keiji haino. through a vast number of recordings and performances haino has staked out a ground all his own creating a language of unparalleled intensity that defies any simple classification. for all this, his 1981 debut album watashi dake? has remained enigmatic. originally released in a small edition by the legendary pinakotheca label, the album was heard by only a select few in japan and far fewer overseas. original vinyl copies became impossibly rare and highly sought after the world over. watashi dake? presents a haunting vision stark vocals, whispered and screamed, punctuate dark silences. intricate and sharp guitar figures interweave, repeat and stretch, trance-like, emerging from dark recesses. written and composed on the spot haino’s vision is one of deep spiritual depths that distantly evokes 1920s blues and medieval music yet is unlike anything ever committed to record before or since. coupled with starkly minimal packaging featuring the now iconic cover photographs by legendary photog rapher gin satoh, the album is a startling and fully realized artistic statement.

dement3d is proud to welcome valentino mora on board, and share with you a part of his spiritual journey. slow hyper-controlled motion has been inspired by butoh moves, but also is a homage to early new york spiritual house. in creating this record he also took field recordings in the forests of japan. the concept of slow hyper-controlled motion is to recreate this 90 s spiritual house vibe, but in a more experimental way.

kuniyuki takahashi (often best known simply as kuni or kuniyuki) is a japanese dj and music producer, sound engineer from sapporo, hokkaido, japan. he records under many different aliases depending on the style of music he is producing, including forth (dub techno/acid house), frr hive (downtempo/drum n bass), koss (for techno). he was also a joint member of the group drp (deutsches reichs patent) along with other member tomoyuki murashige.

the next set of the japanese musical tales on hhatri s imprint comes from takecha (aka takeshi fukushima), a producer who has played a part in creating some of the seminal pieces of house music that have originated from japan. his music is characterised by the perfect marriage of experimentation and emotional content. for those that know, takecha s first ep kind of deep released on his own imprint, gwm records, in 1995 is a secret gem among japanese house music collectors. only 100 copies were ever available and it is a subtle reminder of what and how deep house should sound like. takecha provides no less in a tale of shiga four gorgeous tracks that provide some insight into his own creative, albeit humble genius in his approach to producing music. fresh off the press are three previously unreleased tracks with the addition of freak out. released in 1998. tip!

keita sano is part of japan s new wave of music producers. the okayama resident has been weaving his way through house, techno and electronica releases displaying an affinity to old school processes and vintage gear. with releases clocked up on mister saturday night, 1080p, lower parts, row, strictly groove recordings, enother blessing, holic trax and spring theory he has shown his eclectic tastes and zany approach to music. for sano making music is like keeping a diary, this year will see many more releases and his new live show.

jun kamoda has been a solid contributor to japan’s electronic music scene for quite some time. producing under his illreme moniker for over 15 years & also as member of hip hop trio baleine 3000. he is also a cartoon illustrator for japanese independent magazine ‘usca’.
2016 saw him release ‘the clay ep’ (with *that* physical graffiti tune) on new york’s seminal imprint mister saturday night as well as a track for a dirt crew recordings compilation. having recently remixed clap! clap!’s ‘hope’, jun kamoda’s debut for black acre is set for release in june.
infectious licks and raw drums come together to form ‘blind disco’, an animated production that blends a cacophony of samples into a raucous party jam. ‘ramen funk’ is a moodier cut by comparison, featuring a medley of percussive elements, vibrant guitar melodies and a seedy bassline, until ‘savanna on the palm’ chops up and loops a wailing vocal sample before leading into echoing chords and a twisted groove in a mesmerising conclusion.

daisuke kondo from okayama, japan, releases a 12inch vinyl rongorongo. dynamic rhythm and dubby multi-layered house groove are equipped in side a 1 o-n-ra. side a 2 turn is a dance track that has tribal rhythm and cosmic scale. on the side b, two cool similar versions remixed by a young genius keita sano, which feel raw, are recorded. he is from okayama as well, and has released his works from various labels around the world, such as mister saturday night or crue-l, now attracting a lot of attention. the low sound that sounds like it is boosting speakers feels comfortable. this is a special single produced by two youngsters from the same town.

next up on hell yeah is -the most balearic record i have ever released- according to label boss & it comes from japan s disco don max essa which features a four part track, themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely, on one side of vinyl, and two more on the flip. essa was born matthew bruce and the uk artist has now been releasing his blissed out beats on labels like feel music, electric minds, bear funk and is it balearic? recording for a decade. a prolific producer whose big hits like panorama suite/uptown vibration (is it balearic?) from 2010 have long been in the hell yeah boss s record bag, essa first approached the label with a bunch of tracks. a good correspondence alchemy ensued and together the artist and label decided to put out the most timeless 12inch possible. the exquisitely ambitious themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely is almost 12 minutes of serene ambient synth work that is like a soundtrack to a hot summer s day. heavenly chords sound just like a breathy female vocal and as they come and go, one finger piano tinkles add real emotional beauty and gentle twinkles shimmer in the distance. half way through lazy drums propel things along at a loveably lethargic pace and immediately place you on the beach. on the flip, saguaro is just as organic and beautiful, but has tumbling drums, wooden hits and soft claps as well as essa s magical synth work all bathing your soul in warm rays. b2 buran chime is perfectly horizontal and expansive, with tinkling triangles, angelic chords and scattered hits and harpsichord sounds all radiating effusively. this is timeless music that will calm busy minds now and forever.

vinyl only, ahead of their collaborative album later this year, pier bucci and oskar szafraniec present their first sampler titled tipico latino featuring a remix by el_txef_a. emerging in the mid 00 s, chilean producer pier bucci first appeared on cadenza with a release alongside luciano himself before dropping multiple releases on crosstown rebels, including his acclaimed album familia . since then he s appeared on get physical and rawax, not to mention launching maruca music - a platform for his own music featuring heavyweight remixers such as baby ford and thomas melchior. szafraniec has been producing under different monikers since 13 years old, releasing two solo albums, recording alongside a guy called gerald in 2012/2013, and touring as a live performer. as oskar szafraniec his production debut was a collaboration alongside ricardo villalobos two years ago, but since then he s appeared on murge recordings and cyclo, as well as collaborating with pier bucci on rawax, who oskar met whilst touring japan tipico latino features gloomy spanish vocals as intricate elements are brought in and out of the mix across its nearly nine-minute duration. subtle throbs and echoing effects are blended with metallic percussion and deep synths for a wistful and mesmerising aesthetic. forbidden colours founder el_txef_a, whose remix talents have been recruited by permanent vacation, galaktika, akbal and culprit, reimagines the original providing a drawn out intro before exploding into a frenzy of crashing cymbals, animated acid and serene vocal moans.

“muen” is based on the concepts of “muen”, “kugai” and “raku” all referring to tactical “freedoms” or “liberties” within the structures of medieval japan. a reflection on concepts that have been lost since the seventeenth century, according to historian yoshihiko amino. while “muen” echoes of the seminal early 90s merzbow, playing on the relationship between metal noise and instrumental oscillations, it differs in interaction between the two. where the pure noise used to dominate, the instrumentation has taken over, making the whole soundscape oscillate and vibrate. each side is one long piece unfolding, an ocean of tones and frequencies, a catharsis of sound, dynamics and power. “muen” is a vitally sonic experience from a true master and innovator of electronic music for followers both new and old. “muen” is limited to 375 copies

torimimasataka is an experimental dub/techno artist based in osaka, japan. his first vinyl ep, voquoxy, is set for release on osaka label nuoac. two original tracks are included for the 12 inch release with additional remixes by metome, koba, and makoto murakami.
