hot off the heels of the beautiful obsolete machines lp released this month, radiuss cassette demo restoration project returns to form with the interpolation tapes series. the original source tapes had aged, warped and degraded and as a result we ve preserved the best segments, sampled and reprocessed with a vintage prophet 2000 sampler, studio 440 and various linn samplers to add depth and range to the original source material. we ve spent nearly an entire year restoring and interpolating over 100 hours of music, processing sound and redesigning the blueprints of this long forgotten project. every track was originally recorded down to an old tascam 688, an 8 track cassette recorder purchased and abused since 1992 and to our ears still sounds quite impressive even by modern standards. we ve had nearly every component replaced and re-calibrated to bring this obsolete machine back to life. it s been a truly nostalgic experience re-visiting and re-arranging these masters, regardless of the time passed, there s so much depth in sound design, raw emotions and when considering the limitations of hardware in the era these were recorded, they ve truly aged like a fine wine. we hope you enjoy this magical time in music, as we are very inspired by all that was happening in those years, theres undeniably something in the air, a mystifying energy, long may it live on.

it has been eleven long years since urbs dropped his last album which was called Òtoujours le meme filmÓ. back then, the musician, dj and producer created the soundtrack to a fictitious film noir, which was released on kruder & dorfmeisterÔs g-stone label, but after touring europe he almost completely retreated from public life. he does not consider his creativity as being his career, but rather as a part of his life which rarely is subject to concrete planning, and that is why urbs quite consciously took his time to create his latest Ðuntitledalbum.

an unreleased classic from the vaults emerges with beautiful reshapes by cv313 (recorded and reshaped from 2007-2016) this is where the sound of cv313 was realized, culled from cassette tapes recorded live (1995-2000) with nothing but analog/digital hardware, no computer in sight (excluding our commodore 64 midi sequencer, which is still alive and well today). the radius project has been absent since the final release in 2001, the first 12- appearing in 1996 (limited white label run of 100 copies pressed at acme pressing in canada) after revisiting these works we realized there was truly some magic here. this project was initially sent to rod modell & mike schommer shortly after they launched their brilliant deepchord label in 2001. they were incredibly kind in saying it was the best demo they had ever heard and passed it on to octal records for release, sadly, that didn t materialize and since then these masters have been collecting dust in our cassette rack for nearly 20 years now. we ve spent months doing our best to restore the old tapes from our tascam 688, an 8 track cassette recorder purchased and abused since 1992 and to our ears still sounds quite impressive even by modern standards. it is a great album! it sounds like he had passed through my lessons. (tony allen) although i did not think deeply about it but i felt that a certain time had come for me and i decided to produce my solo album. it was 20 years since i first started playing drums and since then, out of all the brilliant artists who live in japan that i played with, i wanted to freely enlist players who i really wanted to create music with. the initial catalyst was my strong yearning, wanting to know, what sort of creativity would result, if i produced my own album.

psychedelic new jazz trio, pioneers in the tel aviv music scene, mainly by introducing through this band a brand new sound, blending jazz with rock and electronics. guitarist/pedal master yonatan albalak, drummer/producer aviv cohen (aka sol monk) and bass player gilad abro, are all well-known jazz-oriented musicians, constantly performing around the world with various projects. the three create under the name of layerz since 2010. things on top of each other is their second album, written and recorded during a 3 days session in the studio. it feels like a natural progression from memory tower their first album recorded in 2012. this album has a distinctly more beats-oriented approach. guests in the album are pianist nitai hershkovits, vocalist kerendun and vocalist marina maximilian blumin.

with his third album vin ploile the bucharest, romania based producer, musician and dj petre in-spirescu captured a whole new audience in 2015 and reached out with minimal leftfield ambient sounds to music loving folks, that are not part of the world-wide dance music universe. well known as one of the key figures of the romanian electronic dance music scene since his first ep tips on lucianos label cadenza, inspirescu stepped away from club sounds that made him famous due to releases on labels like vinyl club, lick my deck or amphia.

the avant garde movement largely influenced katsoulisÕ early compositions. after which, he turned to minimalism, applying elements of jazz and rock into that genre. since the 80s, the use of technology became gradually apparent in his compositions, whist not diminishing the importance of the human factor and the creative involvement of the performer. . today, he is striving for simplicity, trying to express the most, using the least, providing the context for this release. from the subtle ambience of title track Òif not now whenÓ, to the intense and confronting sound on Òall the blue skiesÓ, katsoulis and his accompanying musicians deliver a diverse and contemporary work with a level of sophistication that will challenge the current electronic musical landscape. the purity of sound in stand out track ÔtoreÕ is juxtaposed by the dark and gritty Ògrand delusionsÓ, a remarkably modern composition which sounds like it has been composed for a berlin techno club, from a man we suspect has never been to one. Ôslipping beautiesÕ, the most revered of katsoulisÕ back catalogue (recently remixed by young marco) is given an organic and intelligent reinterpretation for 2016. the haunting and provocative vocal performance by anna linardou on ÔzarrinÕ leads the record down an even more emotive and provocative path.

a year after their impressive last album burn it down, detroit techno legends octave one are back with a nine track double ep that again shows they are masters of big hypnotic grooves. entitled love by machine, the albums name is a nod to the fact that the burden brothers are such revered masters of their hardware. both in the studio, where they cook up atmospheric house and techno with soaring synths and vocals and also in the live arena, where they are celebrated as one of the most accomplished and forward thinking performers in the game today. that is all the more impressive when you bear in mind they have been active since the 80s, most often releasing on their own 430 west label, which is where they appear again here.
