‘mind fiction’, kaczor s first release, comes with organic artwork such as a growing plant cover and simple yet sleek thai design inspired by a recent tour to southeast asia. the ep serves as a perfect example for kaczor s own artistic vision: moody textures and mellower grooves meeting his trademark raw and gritty, forceful attack-laden release of rolling drums, bass and percussion, pointing to kaczor s own roots in the more stormy outbacks of broken beats or uk bass. first track ‘balance’ starts off with a softer, textured soundscape, nicely balancing melancholy synth waves and drum rattles into an atmospheric opener with a slowly oncoming and unfurling, melodic twist. the title track ‘mind fiction’ more closely follows kaczors very own signature formula of a simple and driving bassline followed by an evocative build-up rushing into an emotional, cathartic breakdown. ‘asta’ might be kazcor s most daring and trippy production to date: an intense mixture between hypnotic, hard hitting thumps and thunderous rolling drums taking the listener into the electrifying whirl of a night-time storm, where the tense and dense, humid atmosphere culminates in a monsoon-like rainfall of spiralling reverb – marking a fitting crescendo for this impressive debut on kaczor s now very own sonic ground.

long celebrated as a hub for new producers to showcase their talents, cdr return to the releasing game in partnership with dimensions festival. up and coming house heads k15 and fyi chris reportedly invited lismore and ben houghton to take part in this collaborative release, resulting in four tracks that wouldn t sound out of place soundtracking a balmy afternoon dance on the adriatic sea. oozing quality and soul throughout, there s a distinctly laid back flavour to the house on offer across this release, although fyi chris add a touch more bite with their grubby lo-fi synth lines on -sugar-.

iarltd003 is the debut vinyl release of illegal alien records label head, ricardo garduno, a new ep called -the man is just confused- which includes two great remixes from vsk and ben gibson.

ben sun returns to delusions for his 4th release on the label including three more tracks which show the australian via london on his best form yet. full moon kicks off the tides ep at full throttle with a muscular conga-led disco house roller. slurping 909 hats and the most twisted of synth solos courtesy of regular collaborator fantastic man (and his beloved juno 60) provide the icing on this simple bass-cake which never fails to energize the dancefloor in the most special of ways. star ritual drops next, going heavy on the percussion once again for a minimal stripped back drum tool which packs a mighty punch. dubbed out vocal hits punctuate the beautifully loose groove with subtle hints of afrobeat implied by the bassline making for a warm summer track dripping with tropical vibes. finally we have glass waves bringing the ep to a glorious close, all chiming synths, bouncing moog bass and waves of chords layering on top of a heavy drum track. ben repping an early 90’s blissed out nu groove mood on this one and managing to sound as fresh as ever in the process

samo lived in hong kong for a bit. he rescued a dog and brought him back to stockholm. he skates but that’s not him on the front. he put together one of the best very records on lies but this four-tracker kills it dead. ben ufo’s been rinsing it. the dog’s name is denzil.

jerome hill (super rhythm trax / dont) dons his techno hat once again for an outing on fresh new label * swords* and opens up with * the creeper*, a brooding ear worm of a banger that skulks around unhinged as fm synthesis drills a hole in your eardrums with solid and moreish bass keeping things very heavy indeed. on the flip we have * drum war* which is just that, sharp snare rolls puncture a heaving carcass of crunchy kicks and bass with tension riding high. also included is a bonus drumapella for djs to utilise when extra snares are needed!! lastly, the original mix of * plastic jam* gets a deserved release after a more stripped back drum heavy mix appeared on the excellent power vacuum label last year. the original mix sees a happy melding of broken beat techno with old skool 1992 hardcore. early dj support from: tiga, richy ahmed, bodyjack, teed, mano le tough, ford foster, pangaea, g-23, addison groove, dan curtin, dop, hrdvsion, franklin de costa/mudkid, ben sims, paco osuna, len faki, serge, iron blu, dense & pika, perc, dj haus.

coordinated ep presents two tracks relating to two different spots, so two different atmospheres. whereas 51°54 01.6-n 4°28-05.0-e corresponds with the maastunel in rotterdam that connects the banks of the nieuwe maas, 51°54 33.0-n 4°29-13.7-e matches the erasmusbrug (erasmus bridge), a combinedcable-stayed and bascule bridge in the center of rotterdam connecting the north and the south parts of the city. whereas the a-side presents a techno and trippy side, the b-side reveals a more atmospheric and percussive one. in summary, both tracks are quite linear, a linearity that hypnotises and sucks the listener up till bringing him in a trance that makes him feeling in another dimension.

shlomo opens the ep with a deep and droning, yet uptempo track. ben gibson continues on the a-side with a synth and tom-driven track, in which the main synth really draws you into the track. takaaki itoh is put on the b1 spot and continues the deep vibe the artists set on the a-side, yet in a more minimalistic way. his track keeps on evolving and growing ever more, while the track in it s core does not change that much. overall severity closes the ep off with a moody banger. this dance floor oriented track focuses on percussive elements and the drums a lot. this track is one of the last ones made by the late max_m, who formed overall severity together with wrong asessment, which makes this ep a little bit more special. four different artists, but a great sounding ep with four tracks that compliment each other really well!

uk techno stalwart ben sims adopts his ron bacardi alias for an outing on bass culture records, bringing with him three varying slices of 4x4-based music. d’julz has a deep penchant for bass and funk, and this is evident throughout the ep. we get off to a rugged start with ‘rock your body’, a deliciously dark slice of grumbling techno. intertwined with the morose bassline is a mysterious, tribal-esque female vocal, warped and twisted to add a primal feel to the track. on the flip, bacardi puts his a different hat on giving us ‘first effort’ a vivacious funk-laced hybrid, which teases you spitting out intermittent trumpets and other such live instruments. finally, ‘the money/dub’ goes straight into disco territory with that oh-so-familiar entrancing rhythm that will keep you fixed to its beat from start to finish. that filtered wah-wah guitar is impossible to resist, especially when combined with such crisp percussion. sheer quality from monsieur bacardi…

opener equilibrium two from buitendijk is a perfectly streamlined and serene bit of spaced out, hypnotic techno. gentle synth pulses roam about the airwaves, left and right, up and down, as ethereal pads glow behind. it s heady dancing music, whilst liem s contact is also perfectly aimed at both head and heel. it is full of lick synth pulses that bubble and boil as watery droplets and ticking hits also colour the most subliminal groove. closer this is all you need is a more textured, frazzled cut with frosty lines and rickety pads working you into a trance. rich drums and clever bass filtration add dynamics and tension and so like everything else here the end result is hugely captivating.

!organism make a carefully selected foray into the vinyl market with their next ep. the revered irregular synth is the man behind the fresh originals and is an italian producer with a worldwide fan base. he has released on this label before now to great acclaim, as well as on loose records and many more, and has a steely and singular style.

ben cohen is a french dj based in paris. he started to play music at the end of the 90’s and produces undefined house/techno with esoteric references invoking the hazy contours of the ever mystical inner zones. he has released two eps on the french label badance and recently voyage to rahoz on bliq. his first appearance on dba was on the various artists excursion dab019.5.

this album is another chapter in the ongoing there s-muchmore-to-brazil than-bossa-nova saga. it s filled with disco-eratracks produced for the brazilian domestic marketplace, some of which were hits, others which were quite obscure. what binds them all together - besides their common origins, time period and overall musical approach - is the fact that their reputation has been steadily transcending brazils borders. this has allowed these tunes to find their place on set lists, want lists and in the crates of the world s most discerning djs and tastemakers.
