a different jimi is a project of the guy who is well known as egoexpress. this new project is a blend of classic beats house,disco in the sense of hamilton bohannon and the unmistakable passion for the jazz sound of the hard bop era that resonates in the depth of the production. title track on a side is melancholic jazzy house and b side is more barealic mood. enjoy!

taking the well-formed and increasingly respected catch recordings to its third release is the broken labour ep from bob barker, complete with remixes from berlins ryan davis and greenville massive. with a background in contemporary art and design bob barker looks to create dance floor sounds that transcend the listener like a viewer in a gallery.

since their birth rvde published two eps gaining good feedback around and refining their sound in the meantime. first one came from black reel and shown the producers skills as well.

after few nolder, italian fellow lehar aka lorenzo esposito is the second new signing for connaisseur this year. apart from his residency at the cirq club in venice and regular bookings at some of the best clubs and parties in italy and malta, lehar truly is a very talented producer as well. some of you might have heard the free download for lehars remix of kollektiv turmstrasses classic *tristesse* which has caused some attention on him the past weeks and was therefore the perfect precursor for this release. his demo impressed us very much and both titles really hit our taste. and as though this wasn t enough, together with his demo he delivered a remix by his friend and probably hottest producer of the moment: mario basanov, head of the label boso and mostly know under his moniker ten walls.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it’s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, ‘adventure in lo-fi’, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track’s bass hits. now, compare that to ‘da brooklyn beat’. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as ‘raw’ and ‘ruff’, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

kalipo is jakob häglsperger from berlin who devotes himself to experimental electronica. his debut album yaruto follows a series of remixes and contributions to compilations released by antime and stiff little spinners. on it, häglsperger tries to create a both unique and timeless sound that takes cues from dance music, downbeat and gamelan traditions alike. making use of his wide array of analogue synthesizers, a rhodes piano, a metallophone and guitars, häglsperger is creating the abstract narrative of an impersonal biography by creating moods that correspond with certain stages of life as well as chopped up vocal samples. the double vinyl lp includes a download code.

step into the rabbit hole and we ll take you on a journey from romania to japan, featuring some of the finest producers from both worlds. first track is from the well known duo livio & roby, who also deliverd a stunning remix on our second release. they share the romanian side with cally, who needs little introduction because of his beatiful releases on fear of flying, neostrictly or broquade. on the flip side we have yudai tamura, a very talented japanese newcomer and yoshitaca, already a veteran dj and producer in his home country.

the “meet us at the loft” e.p. is a various artists project marking the third release from new york born and now berlin based label l.a.g. it’s an eclectic record featuring rising producers dj richard, hinode, jon hester as well as label head arthur kimskii’s first solo release. various cuts featuring dub techno tones with house inflections are offered from arthur kimskii and jon hester. left field leaning expressions steeped with soul, dynamic percussive rhythms and driving toms anchors the offering from dj richard. analog warmth in the form of electro from hinode rounds out the release.

broadwalk are proud to welcome shanti celeste to the label, making her debut with 3 slices of melodically rich techno, electro and house. bristol-based but chilean born, shanti has previously released on idle hands, as well as working behind the counter at the record store in stokes croft

sardinian born, berlin based producer hubble is known to create implicitly ethereal moods. his way to keep people off guard as well as making a musical commitment through long excursion is unique to him. on this ep titles la rencontre (eg. meeting), he crosses paths with his romanian friend tulbure.

here s something to stir the loins of any discerning disco dj: a studio hook-up between veteran producer felix dickinson (fresh from his much-loved outing on futureboogie recordings), horse meat disco and one-time dfa man (and renowned multi-instrumentalist) marcus marr. there s an additional contributor, too: a mystery (presumably big-name) vocalist whose talk-box heavy delivery sits somewhere between prince, george clinton and pharrell. the track itself is something of a summer anthem in the making - an immaculately produced p-funk jam with the additional benefit of a shuffling, house-friendly groove. no details on how many copies have been pressed, either way, you d be well advised to snap up a copy while you still can.

demarzos sound is a meticulously crafted one. his toxic perfectionism and shrewd sense of rhythm lead him naturally to where he is today. his well-revised sets include anything from underground deep house to main room deep tech. after releases on hot creations, noir, glasgow underground or loulou records to name a few, arrives to sincopat with two secret weapons. holster is a cheeky but solid track which brings together groove and melody. analogue synths being added, it also presents changing voices all the way. for the remix, walker & royce take the deep way with a dry kick and sinister notes. pay attention to the astonishing breakdown. trigger is the second original track, in the same language than holster, and using some classic groovebox bullets. ramiro lopez, one of the sincopats golden boys, after his bedrock release, offers two fresh versions with different treatments.

swiss-based questo! music gets a little sister called questa! (sub-label with limited 150 vinyl records). for this, label-head francesco ballato merges with chris milla, who both are well-known for their specific sounds from the brother label.

leo anibaldi and orlando voorn share this excellent release on the italian cannibald imprint. vibey techno/house with clear synth washes and hypnotic chords. as well the a as the b side rely heavy.

bok & trago are back with another 12- of deeply textured, hypnotic house music. this time taking a melodic approach on the a-side main mix of -need this-, the london-amsterdam duo borrow and flips motifs from a classic. -need this (radio mix)- is a piece of slow-burning deep-tech, helicopter blade arps hovering over epic fm bassline and churning percussive guts. a well-deserved melodic reveal at 4 minutes gives way to plenty of weightless beats to keep djs busy on the loop button - blending perfection ensured. on the flip, the 12- mix strips out the melodies and turns up the percussive heat. the results are a sweltering dub strictly for the dancers

bart skils returns to drumcode with his third solo release, shadowprint. consisting of barts famous rolling drums and bass rhythms he has crafted an ep that is exceptionally functional. with each track bart has added character by introducing vocals, interesting melodies and deep percussion to keep it interesting. the ep is made up of 3 peak time tracks that are eloquently put together. my part of town is a bit deeper from bart and contrast s well to the rest of the ep with it s melodic bass line

dance with a smile in your face and be happy.stourette de mar - this refers not to the sometimes declared tics - it s the newest ep out of the house from hanne & lore, released on the berlin based label stylerockets. multilayered and with a well-known female vocal from the early 90ies.

italys niccolo detti aka nicco launched the recline music imprint mid 2008 and has since gone on to release material from the likes of oxia, mic newman and anonym. here we see nicco return with some new material via the imprint, in the shape of moon games, whilst enlisting some heavy hitting remix artists as well to create a punchy package with a widespread appeal. the original mix of moon games kicks things off, a classic meets contemporary house number. fusing old school elements such as meandering organ lines and stuttering guitar licks, while dubbed out vocals and bumpy rhythms add a modern charm to the composition.

hold the front page! we first got a listen to these cuts while washed up in an after the after a couple of weeks ago, a bit of sober investigation led us to a fiendish plot involving a host of anonymous, though very well known artists, all contributing straight up, in-the-moment club music of the highest calibre ! needless to say, we shook hands on what is promising to be a very memorable and collectible series…night parade based on the japanese folklore of the *night parade of one hundred demons* each release in the series will take the name of a demon/monster from folklore and a graphic artist is asked to interpret/re-imagine it in their own style - sleeves will be hand screen-printed & each release limited to 300 copies. the music is by an anonymous collection of producers from all over the world.

tiagos interzona 13 label has quietly gone about its business across three acclaimed and sold-out eps. his unique reputation as a dj is matched by the distinctive and unrivaled quality of his productions. for his fourth outing tiago treads an arguably more experimental path, and using sem titulo (untitled in portuguese) on three of the cuts here only adds to the mysterious nature of the sonic treats within. present, as always are the deft rhythm sections and powerful arrangements, as subtle elements of disco, techno & new wave provide the bedrock for his trademark off kilter melodies and soundscaping. the darker underbelly of club life may well be the inspiration, but the mood and execution are pure tiago! another beauty then from this outstanding, diverse and incomparable imprint.

berlin techno was the big thing over the last years, but you might know that in german cites like hamburg and munich there is a huge growing experimental house scene. hamburgs diynamic records crew or munich artists such as sascha sibler (innervisions) or cocolores (exploited) are equally well respected as the big names from berlin. one of the fresh new labels is toy tonics from munich and the raising stars of the labels are rhode & brown.

people must jam just keep on bringing the heat! one of new zealands best exports, apart from lamb - a dj and producer of considerable talents, whose musical output has graced a slew of respected outlets, from the uber cool unthank to rush hour, burek, dopeness galore & boogie bash, as well as his own fantastic hot shots imprint for his pmj debut, we have a five track set of rough and ready workouts, the echoes of thirty odd years of black us dance music held up with raw drum machine scaffolding. from smoked-out b boy jams to lo-fi sample joints - loose and alive on the floor on the flip lay far stirs up some sonic trouble with a bottom heavy rewire of the title track, while ugly drums bring some serious shine to linoleum magnets, with a mix that is heavy on immersive mood and vibe. limited to 300 copies.

hot city orchestra is a reformation of a band, which was originally formed in 1998. at the age of 17, arno völker (einzelkind) and simon birkenfeld became friends and started making drum and bass music together. they toured all over germany with their record label and had residencies at robert johnson in offenbach and tanzhaus west in frankfurt. after gaining years of experience within the breakbeat scene, arno went on to become einzelkind with releases on playhouse, cocoon, white and his own imprints la peña, jax and pressure traxx as well as worldwide dj gigs. simon was still focusing on his breakbeat career for another year, making an album with a uk drum and bass legend, but it was never released. he stopped making music and started focusing on his career in pr and marketing, where he mostly worked on music and art projects. during this time, the long-time friends arno and simon came up with the idea to launch the blog-network-project www.disco-very. net now, 16 years later, after making first beats together, the boys are back! a tiny bit older, much wiser, more handsome and around 50 bpm slower.

john tejada does not really need any introduction - he is simply a phenomenon. starting with his first releases in the mid nineties, he has been constantly expanding on his massive catalogue of singles, remixes and albums released on well known us and european techno, house and electronic music labels and there seems to be no end in sight. in addition to his output on prestigious labels such as playhouse, plug research, defocus, moods and grooves, 7th city, kompakt, and others he has also been running his own palette recordings imprint since 1996. john tejada s ep for slices of life make reference to his earlier releases that were beloved by dj s for their driving energy and an occasional wink of humor. the three tracks on -times like this- combine a musical glance back to earlier times, while showcasing tejada s high level production skills of today: a slice from the past without being nostalgic

the composer and sculptor aaron taylor kuffner is well known for co-creating the gamelatron project in 2008, the worlds first fully robotic gamelan orchestra. his one-of-a-kind creation has been shown in major venues and festivals worldwide, ranging from the smithsonian to fuji rock, and at galleries and festivals across asia, europe, russia and north america.

for nearly two decades, ploink has promoted techno nights around norway, presenting local talent as well as some of the biggest acts from around the world. we just really like techno. our definition of the genre is fairly wide though, constantly evolving, which we have attempted to reflect in this our first release, compiling four very different tracks by local producers from our hometown of bergen. setting up a label branch has for years been a burried, old plan. to us, techno parties, no matter how unique and brilliantly planned, have such a short lifespan, and as such it feels good to finally start releasing something that can get a life of its own, perhaps grow into something entirely different.

10 years of dopeness galore brings forth an exciting new project between well established future soul producer inkswel and blossoming underground rnb vocalist charli james.

continuing his prolific run of new material for the label, johannes heil continues to push forward with his >transitions< series, here collecting four more unique tracks for volume 2. opening with the serene calm and krautrock influenced >transition five<, a five minute piece that opens up a rich synth landscape full of space and texture, we then move onto the first of the eps two full-spectrum techno trips. hotly tipped for the summer as an essential festival and open air moment, the powerful and optimistic energy behind >transition six< is hard to ignore. that combined with heils extremely well sculpted and high-end production, the scene is set for madness to ensue… on the flip side we visit more paranoid zones with >transition seven<. building from a minimalistic stuttering rhythm, a soaring sci-fi soundtrack of strings and intricate synth patterns lift the tension, while dramatic sound effects crash and shimmer across the spectrum. this then prepares us for >transition eight<, in which we find johannes working his refined club-sound into yet further directions and angles. at once hypnotising and dominating in its driving bass register and captivating arrangement, a highly charged minimalist club tool for 2014 awaits!

nobody can deny the fact that vilnius in lithuania is currently a very creative and agile place. first and foremost mario basanov of course, whose ten walls moniker swept the board last year and whose hype seems to have only just started. his popularity was heightened by the start of his own label boso. it took off with the highly praised -walking with elephants-, which was already one of the biggest tunes of this summer, before it even came out. the second release is by few nolder, another highly talented native from vilnius, who showed frst signs of life on connaisseur with his lovely tune -space espace- on our last edition of livingroom techno as well as with his remix for -canto d amore- by marco effe & francesco carone. -clouds- is the name of his boso release, and it looks to be the next big thing for this young label. for his frst own release on connaisseur he delivered -if-.the fact that it is different from his other output is why we have decided to present this tune in two versions as a 10- vinyl-only single. the original is a summerish and catchy house cut with a bouncy bassline and a slightly uk-approach.this tune makes you move without there being much you can do about it. the alt version goes deeper, building up with a question/answer theme until a strong, driving piano element joins to complete the track. lovers of older pokerflat releases will truly enjoy this version.

the next outing on mora music comes from leeds based tms, delivering two well-rounded & versatile tracks. *fuck you, pay me* is the peak timer with firing, pounding kick drums and off-key stabs in the background. it builds to a crescendo of intense feedback, before suddenly dropping with the bass line you have been waiting for. *slomotion* on the b-side is the slow burner of the ep confirmed by the beautiful hook that comes in halfway through the track. rounding off the release comes a remix of slomotion from mora music favourite bobby o donnell. this hypnotic trippy little number raises the bar, taking the track to an intense dance floor high.
