chord memory! the hymn for the widely used feature in 80s hardware synthesizers got some individual rewiring done. if ten fingers ain’t enough hyboid uses his galactic memory for punchy disco purposes while robyrt hecht reaches for a swinging pivot memory to sweep and swipe your electro habits. on the other hand milium likes the exposed wires of his mutiny memory to revolt whereas cco simulates his natural echoic memory with floating acid sparks. completing the mechanical rewiring the duo nachtzug added delicate software to execute the algorithms and installed a memory loss button, if you are in need of a reset.

• umek reprises his zeta reticula moniker for a welcome return to billy nasty’s electrix label with an innovative ep comprised of 4 new tracks, split between the two spheres of electro and techno. the slovenian-born dj and producer should need no introduction, boasting more than two decades of experience, playing the world over, producing music for labels like toolroom, spinnin’, great stuff, intec or his own imprint, 1605 to name just a few, or presenting his hugely popular weekly radio show, behind the iron curtain. it’s been some time since a zeta reticula release on electrix, with ‘ep 1’ to ‘ep 4’ surfacing on the label between 2000 and 2003, although umek has continued the project more recently with tracks on 1605. the a-side of ‘ep 5’ delivers some electro flavour, opening with the serious electro-funk of ‘electric blood complete’, before the vintage sci-fi electronics and playful rave stabs of ‘euphonious’. over on the b-side the techno takes over with the deep and dub-drenched ‘encroach’ followed by the tough housey grooves of ‘radiate’ to complete this bold package.

niro perrone better known as simply niro, or easy to remember, alongside sibling and production partner elia perrone, has come a long way over the past few years stacking up releases on the likes of m50’s revered kimochi sound, sound of vast, memento and the dub, as well as releasing his debut lp on his unclear imprint. here though we see niro introduce a new chapter with his brand new label pads.
‘hands of shadow’ opens the release and sets the tone of the label from the very beginning with an understated melodic feel fused with raw percussion and a subtly evolving yet intricate structure. ‘inner space’ follows and wanders into dub territories with spiralling echoes, low-slung drums and ethereal atmospherics. title cut ‘pieces of you’ opens the flip side and lays focus on an infectious unfaltering groove via vacillating pad swells, sporadic jazz licks and a weighty 4/4 drive before closing cut ‘the spectrometer dance’ rounds it all off with some ambient vibes.

moon is a discovery of iron curtis & johannes albert. before them boys drop their album they tease us with some rave informed jungl-ish techno (fyi - working title -shed-). the break? yes it is just long enough to go to the loo. flip comes with proto appealed trance in a classic executed electro-vain. so hop on your spacecraft and join ze ride.

why making a techno record in 2016? in the vast stream of new releases and the everlasting quest of new musical boundaries, blint002 tries to focus on the essentials of pattern-based clubmusic. both tracks started as late night studio jams, using only a drummaschine, a synth and some pedals. while 92 avenue ended up being a straightfoward technotrack, including a massive breakdown for everybody still awake and dancing, you have i dont have is incorporating some boomy hiphop aesthetic without loosing its connection to the dancefloor. both tracks are linked by their unresting synthlines, straying around, trapped in a noisey room full of smoke and distortion. bouncing back to the inital question, the answer with this record seems pretty clear: techno is still nothing but pure dark fun.

with new wake up! ep further apart lerosa s mark of fluent, elemental and strong work offers increasingly deeper sulphuric and acid sounds. down reaching, complex grooves and rhythms give direction into solid moving tracks - where i want to dance. currently located in the emerald isle of ireland, you wonder if context gives form to lerosa s sound, a permanently sodden landscape offering the backdrop. weighty tracks such as terza persona seat layers of digital, organic beats, peals and stabs that contain the same sort of dark nourishment that staring at a black bog in connemara* might evoke. despite its wide, dark tones, lerosa s tracks always contain a dimension of upbeat empathic elements which make it so attractive, the kinda pelvic push and pull where you wish you had the foot work to pelt out some shapes. *connemara is a district in the west of ireland, the boundaries of which are not well defined

with noblesse oblige you find yourself among the aristocracy of the mind and body… it is a gathering of artists with a different heartbeat and mindset… fitting the gooiland elektro spirit as they operate far away from contemporary music standards… not being interested nor moved by trends and hypes… instead they share the mission to produce uncompromising sounds for the real freaks with music both for the dancefloor and the headphone… in this case this means sweaty ebm, dark techno and industrial acid… but that are just some name tags… it is all about the experience…

deep88 is back! here is a 7 track lp, music without any pretence, no silly fx or crazy compression/production tricks to take away from the music. just that 1988/1993 vibe with a slight balearic twist but some how avoiding to sound like a poor copy or dated. this last statement couldnt be any truer on this release. the vibe is carried through the whole ep with each consequent track then offering something a little bit different, some showing his balearic side and other tracks having a more house feel.

the second release on the vinyl only series of apes go bananas finally drops. the label is the new imprint from steve bug and clé, who together make up the production team for the releases. as with the well-received first ep, all we have is straight-up, no-nonsense, dance floor-filling house tracks. lead cut ‘all we have settles right into the groove with crisp and funky percussion, chi-town chords and amazing vocal samples. its got peak time written all over it. she cargo makes its influences pretty clear via the title, and the track certainly references some of the iconic sounds of the home of house. thick, rubbery bass lines, squiggly synths and firing percussion combine to deliver a suitable a homage to the windy city. ‘ape parade is built from some similar materials, but the chords are a little more lush and deep - synth strings and keys add a sense of the epic, and everything is tied together with a sick kick / snare / hat pattern. three modern killers for the floor, infused with the spirit of classic house.

after mike gervais’ strident work on sym017, ben sims’ symbolism imprint returns with spanish newcomer jlg’s four track ‘convolution’ ep. originally coming to sims’ attention via the demo section of his ‘run it red’ radio show/podcast, javier lg has previously released for dynamic reflection and substance but it’s the quality of his unreleased material that secured his place on symbolism. characterised by intricate and interwoven melodic rhythms, some at the forefront and some almost there, jlg’s debut for the label is an infectious and consummate affair.
