harlem s legendary disco label queen constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades. one of many labels operating under the equally legendary p&p family of imprints queen constance was operated by one peter brown, a truly colossal figure in nyc s music scene, it s catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. covering a wide range of styles including gospel, early rap and disco the label s output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected dj s and selectors across the globe. licky & the dream lovers massive afro-disco groove african rock is the next in a fully licensed series of queen constance rarities to be repressed. licky seems to be yet another studio group put together by peter brown in order to explore different sounds and styles. this raucous piece of uptempo, blazing disco really does the business in the dance, a truly immense club record, which is not surprising considering brown is at the helm. ridiculous funk on this one. across 2 sides we are treated to 2 slightly different versions of the cut, both equally as good, you could literally put the needle on the record, let it spin and watch it do damage. this one is an essential, a truly sought after record that commands extremely high prices on the used market when it shows up, but rarity aside, it is an absolute bomb and deserves to be in any self-respecting disco jocks bag of tricks. this is a 100% legit reissue, made in conjunction with above board distribution and the demon music group, lovingly remastered with love by optimum mastering, bristol uk.

july sees radio slave’s rekids invite britain’s renowned swayzak to the roster with a cold war themed release entitled ‘odessa calling’ ep. a name associated with quality, swayzak’s ability to retain their signature sound whilst producing across various sub-genres has cemented them a solid reputation since their humble beginnings in the 90s. their impressive back catalogue includes six studio albums and appearances on labels like k7, m_nus, curle, ellum and swayzak’s own label 240 volts, which was relaunched in 2017. originally a duo comprised of david brown and james taylor, brown has been helming the project solo since 2012. he now joins respected berlin-based imprint rekids with two inspired productions. ‘odessa calling’ is a mysterious track with hypnotic synths, mesmerising pads and enigmatic vocals that combine together to create a celestial aesthetic. on the flipside, ‘numbers station’ continues with the otherworldly feel employing shimmering percussion that wanders alongside a brooding bassline for a well refined finish to the package.

side b takes on one of nycity’s grimiest hip hop club anthems, mobb deep’s “burn”. we decided to do this tune and demoed it out long before the unfortunate passing of prodigy. unfortunately, he will never get to hear this cover, and that has been one of the nicest things in covering some of these more current hip hop tunes. rest in peace p.
brsb manages to do it again ... a version equally as raw and punchy as the original. pans bang out the iconic riff from the original, theremin ushers in the changes, and the low rubble of the synth bass is sure to crush the subwoofers.

maksim dark returns to his spiritual home of senso sounds - oliver huntemanns much touted imprint for his tougher, technoid leanings. maksim, born in serov, russia, has created an indelible impression over the course of his young career, and ‘movement is clearly the next step on his road to very great things. ‘attack disco is true to form - a lean, mean and tough to the bone piece of techno with a driving, powerful edge. growling, snarling synths sound like shards of metal ripping through the groove producing an intense vibe. ‘coordinate is a notch more reserved, but builds a killer, hypnotic groove through stripped back elements, before maksims off-kilter sound design provides the trippy topping. the title track ‘movement fits its name - the track bursts with energy and atmosphere, propelled by a thick, tactile rhythm and pitched down, demonic vocal by the man himself.

for our next excursion, we’re off to the library. in search of library records that is - you know the type, the crazy rare records used for soundtracks and such and such. we have a sick selection of synthed-up beats and pieces chopped together by one earl jeffers, making the most out of his international library digging card* (*not a real thing).
for those that don’t know, cardiff’s earl jeffers is one half of darkhouse family, regular family at our sister label, first word, on which they released their debut album “the offering” late last year. earl is a prolific producer in his own right, also releasing over the years under the aliases chesus and metabeats on labels like mcde, fat city and local talk, collaborating with artists like byron the aquarius, action bronson and kamaal williams / henry wu, turning his hand ably to house, hip hop, jungle, jazz and more. all this in addition to running his own label, mélange records.
a dedicated digger and record collector first and foremost, earl has provided us with a quadruple set of heavyweight stuttery sci-fi boom bap. in earl’s words: “this record was mostly inspired by my penchant for the more electronic / synthesized jams, mostly replayed from the original compositions then thrust in to 2028 and beyond….”

with a number of high profile releases already behind him for labels including the legendary xl recordings and dusky’s 17 steps imprint, hugo massien has carved a sound for himself that sees him bring together elements from house, techno, dubstep and hardcore, all combining force to produce this killer 4-track ep, running at the techno-friendly tempos of around 128bpm.

it is with a huge amount of pride and happiness that i get to welcome legendary producer and all round good egg liquid to the label. if liquid needs an introduction, i have to wonder what you are doing here? seriously though, he has brought an absolutely amazing ep of four brilliant tracks to the label. the truth is classic liquid piano anthem style, like a modern version of “sweet harmony”. kex and phormocide lean into old skool from various eras, and dope sick rounds the ep off with a futuristic retro amen workout, easily one of my favorite tunes since kniteforce restarted as a vinyl label. this ep is the bizniz basically. do not miss!

salsoul records have always stayed one step ahead of the game. since the labels inception in the early 1970 s the imprint s focus has been firmly fixed on presenting the most cutting edge dance music sounds and in the process the label has been instrumental in creating legends and shaping the landscape of contemporary club culture throughout the original disco era and beyond. it comes as no surprise that many of todays labels and artists cite salsoul as a fundamental influence on them and their output. the labels music has been endlessly rediscovered, sampled, re-edited and appreciated over and over again, your favourite dj s and selectors undoubtedly reach for tracks from the catalogue each time they play. this is why salsoul continue to collaborate with the best labels and artists out there today.

summertime funtime courtesy of... someone from somewhere. who know? “liwando” is madchester rave culture with a disco underbelly and a bongo and conga fervor. jacques renault’s mix somehow manages to cram a few more sticks of dynamite into the mix, beefing up the funkiness quotient (that bass!) and embellishing the breakdowns (that horn!) “didn’t i (acid version)” is definitely the afterward to “liwando,” a joyous, soaring encore that has, yes, a touch of acid folded in.

rod modell returns as deepchord for his first solo release on astral industries since inaugurating the label with his sought-after ‘lanterns’ ep. consisting of two stunning long-form pieces split on one side each, immersions¿ captures the emotive, halcyon sound that rod has long become synonymous with. opening with glistening ambient textures, ‘immersion i’ grows into an 18-minute piece of deep rolling dub techno. on the other side ‘immersion ii’ paints pristine soundscapes of soft, lapping waves, underpinned by submerged pulsations that rise to the surface to continue its deep space explorations. two highly refined and inspiring tracks that sit on the apogee of this sound.

the next release on leading french label zone is a very special one indeed from long time friend of the label and pioneering electro figure kittin, the artist formerly known as miss kittin. her standout original comes with an equally impressive remix from truncate. a long time stalwart of the electroclash scene who has put out many seminal singles, kittin has famously collaborated with the hacker and felix da housecat and mixed up new wave and techno in arresting new ways for decades. her albums have always been hailed as hugely accomplished and the prolific and innovative frenchwoman has worked with numerous top labels. now back once more in 2018 with her first solo single in some time, she is in fine form. her offering here, ‘eacid’, is a timeless piece of deep techno with brain melting bass and twinkling yet menacing keys. her own vocals are twisted and chopped up into wordless forms that add layers of intrigue and the whole thing is brilliantly broody. a breakdown at the mid point allows you to catch your breath as her voice refracts round the airwaves, then the icy hi hats and rumbling drums and bass land again with subtly uplifting, light emitting chords rising in the background. all in all, this is one of kittin’s most special and evocative tracks of recent times. remixing is truncate, the deep techno artist who runs a label of the same name and has released his killer wares on 50weapons. his version is more wild and flailing, with the keys becoming more manic, the drums darting about all over the place and the voice becoming more paranoid and trippy.

r&s welcome back highly-revered techno artist benjamin damage with his new double headed single ‘malfunction / binary . ‘montreal’ from his debut r&s ep proved to be one of the label s biggest techno releases of the last few years - the pummelling drums, intense atmosphere and beatuiful melodies are synonymous with the music that has made the label timeless. road tested in benjamin’s heavy artillery live shows across the globe, malfunction / binary pick up where the last ep left off - pistoning rhythms, breakneck beats and monolithic bass, but this time the mood is more reflective and optimistic - skying cloud-like pads offer a dreamy counterpoint. made between london and berlin, following recent live shows at berghain and oval space, benjamin’s wanderlust and restless studio dynamic sees him continually breaking down his gear to travel, “being on tour with all my gear i find it quite easy to work in new places,” he explains. “i like the energy of different cities and it s good to keep moving.” this new ep is announced ahead of a huge, all hardware live show at sonar by night in barcelona. with ‘malfunction/binary’ sure to do the business and an album in progress for r&s scheduled for 2019 it’s going to be an exciting year ahead!

warsaw based duo private press join rekids special projects this july with four deep techno cuts entitled ‘zero sum ep’. hailing from poland, adam brocki and jan wóycicki make up private press – a project that’s released sought after cuts on labels like technosoul and indigo aera. the duo is also known by the name raw feelings, however many will be familiar with brocki’s newborn jr. alias, which has dropped releases on rhythm section, echovolt, dopeness galore and les yeux orange. ‘miracle man sets the tone with delayed resonant synths accompanied by crunchy and distorted snares before ‘becomes the prime’ opts for a lo-fi sound with filtered synth blips and enigmatic vocal slices. on the flip side ‘tooms’ delivers heavily reverberated horn-like stabs, modulated synth lines and an underpinning bass that rumbles throughout as ‘clan’ offers a fast paced cut with high pitched whistling that echoes alongside a thumping kick drum and organic percussion to bring the package to a close..

gorje and izhevski return to all day i dream. finally! our exotic step brothers have their own elegant and distinctive sound that carefully balances musical emotion with signature beats. equally at home on the dance floor as well as your lounge floor in your spotify playlist. nikolai has been a long time fan of peter broderick and was given the opportunity to work with him last year. he (and dimitri) took peter s vocals and created something quite beautiful, both in ambient form as well as the 4:4 version. ta da! their new ep was well on it s way to completion. seeing as i m never satisfied though i insisted they stayed up late for another week and the result was l eternite. harking back to one of their first releases (calinerie) on the label this subtle melodic bomb will be heard as the sun sets or the sun rises across the universe this summer. if you re not already aware please check out the boys label too. shanti radio is a label we at all day i dream love.

this one has been a long time coming. great 12”s never get shelved at lddlm, time is not the essence. benedikt frey has been part of the extended family since his remix of car’s idle eyes and we crossed paths a few times at robert johnson in frankfurt. init, his project with his other half nadia d’alò, has seen releases on neighbours such as hivern or correspondant, our door was naturally open to their pretty personal brand of “off-kilter techno” as ra says. stereometric is almost a definition of init’s acid mind. failing their own tricks, heavy atmosphere and unusual restraint. nuts is almost an instrumental extension of the title track, when your head finally hit that window pane. wheels slows the rush down, wandering on an imaginary khyber pass. this is only deception though, mindwork being a real exercise in post-goa trance. hope you enjoy the trip. see you after the summer.

no one confronts the abyss better than chris orrick. the michigan ex-factory worker formerly known as red pill has spent the last half-decade documenting industrial decay, familial pain, and struggles with addiction better than almost anyone inhabiting this poisoned soil. it’s somewhere between charles bukowski and michael moore, or maybe atmosphere if he couldn’t ignore the arsenic in the air. as orrick tells it, “portraits,” his latest album for mello music group is a return to form.

swedish producer tiger stripes, the alias of mikael nordgren, brings his techno touch to hot creations for his debut ep on the label this summer. jack my yum is a heavyweight three-parter that sees the swede invite hot creations stable mate, matt tolfrey, to provide a stellar remix. opening track jack my yum is a warped and heavy roller with a smattering of dark vocals. haunted brings with it a bass that you can feel reverberating off the concrete walls of a darkened club, interspersed with an eerie melody. following his recent release americas on the label, leftroom records boss matt tolfrey brings his groove and a bouncier bassline to proceedings with his version of the title track. dunjacka completes the ep, with nordgren sewing together a techno beat with broken vocal stabs, underpinned by a throbbing groove throughout. tiger stripes has collaborated with legendary names such as kerri chandler, adeva, leroy burgess, riva starr and jerome sydenham, with his brand of deep and futuristic techno seeing releases on some of the underground’s biggest imprints including desolat, drumcode and cajual.
