severence is an electronic sound artist who lives in spain. mensch 003 experiments with various forms of chaotic sound & signal generation to create dense chaotic sound fields and other more relaxed ambient soundscapes. all tracks were recorded live in one take using a eurorack modular synth, a mixing desk and various effects pedals (no overdubs or post processing in the computer).

nightime drama is proud to present a 3 track ep from yoshihiro arikawa, featuring a remix by aubrey. the tokyo based producer yoshihiro arikawa is known for a compound of minimal and 90 s ghetto house, releasing a series of critically heralded eps on logistic in france, kb and his own label kodaira tracks under his alias d kawa between 2003 and 2009. after a short hiatus, arikawa restarted the activities under his real name and has revealed a new aspect of his music on a number of releases from international labels such as affin, hypnotic room, labyrinth, m_grey, toffler sound and swap. his first release on nightime drama comes with a remix from aubrey who is no stranger to any techno lover’s ears. with over 25 years in the industry, he has been involved with some of the biggest names in the business and brings a funky energetic remix to the release.

frankfurt based producer, dj and music lover martin heimann presents his debut single salto on carry on 008. remaining faithful to its name, the small label puts out another piece of limited wax every once in a long while. enrooted in the soundscapes of 80s proto house the original version of salto is a thriving piece of octave liberation. consistent changes between harmonics break up the repetitive structure, while fm pads and the 303 are performing a little duet. the release is ennobled by two proper remixes from moon b (peoples potential unlimited) and jex opolis (good timin). while moon b keeps it bubblin’ with some extra analogue funk bounce and subtle italo dance floor energy, the b-side is jexi-fied with some embellishment to the cords, change in the bassline and a nice 808 snap. on top mr. opolis adds some mysterious but cheesy vocals samples that match perfect with the moody 80s orchestral stabs.

lakker were commissioned by the re:vive initiative to create a new conceptual work solely sampling field recording, tv and radio broadcasts from the dutch national av archive, the netherlands institute for sound and vision. the curated material provided all related to and was representative of the theme the “dutch and water”.
the resulting 8 track release “struggle and emerge” is a tense soundtrack to the machine driven mid-20th century that captures the complex relationship between the dutch and the water that surrounds them- unyielding, colossal, industrial.

the next release on lag is from bay area to berlin transplant jamaica suk. the kontort ep (lag006) is another 3 cut record with all original music. the title track kontort is a composition with the big room in mind with thunderous kicks and bass with intricate panning and dub inflections. holographic is a another big room techno workout with a deliciously infectious piano line which allows the producers personality to shine through. depth between waves is a dub techno roller. this track shows restraint till the break then re-emerges with a synth sound that pushes the groove forward in a simple yet undeniable manner.

renormalon is a collaborative effort between elena sizova, heinrich mueller: music data and dr olga karelkina: visual data + encoding. its purpose technically is to visually and sonically communicate the renormalon physics principle. each composition is separate component of the theory representing a particular phenomenon in the realm of quantum uncertainty. the observer is to be immersed conceptually and hopefully will experience discrete states of energy which is integral in atomic behavior.

transhumanism ep is a combination of ethereal and angular sounds, but with many points of reference concatenated between them. starting from the side a, if methodical ear has as its base, a rhythm with an incipit house, but with edgy sounds always in progress, shadow manipulation of mind looks at an utopian techno, together a dense and obsessive hypnotic groove. instead, in the b-side, synapsi sonora-, presents a classical structure, but with kick and snare somewhat in the foreground, with low, evolving, sick and stifling pads in their concept of low-fi timbal. state of induced hibernation is an alien traces in his gait metal percussion and sharp synth, make a song to say the least harsh and unwilling to be defined and confined to specific genres, as in the complex is all this project for ambiwa records.

the second release is a split between the label owners lc12 and the rising star autre.
on the first side rumore and orphidal are opening the release with a 115 bpm proto-ambient track filled with liquid grooves and tribal elements while in the second cut they are showing us their faster and deep-acid side with conversations.
on the other surface autre is killing it with filter sessions 329, a mental techno trip did while experimenting with his new filter bank, an 808 and a juno 106. the b2 is an elegant track with a fred p-esque touch, suitable for every kind of dance floor.

club lonely s first 12 inch coming from san francisco drum machine freak vin sol. vinyl only wild chicago trax for club destruction. west coast producer and clone affiliate vin sol has been steadily banging the box creating his twisted takes on house, techno and whatever weird ass grey area that exists between the two. his sound is uncompromising, carefully crafted trax for the dance floor hinging on raw and stripped back grooves with relentless movement. this sentiment is also expertly conveyed in his dj sets and mixes.with his production getting support from both techno and house heavy hitters like marcel dettmann, larry heard, seth troxler, richie hawtin, len faki, scuba, joey anderson and boddika.

francesco tristano really needs no introduction lately, his music speaks volumes and his reputation precedes him with that said we are happy to share place on lafayette with you once again, this time including some stunning remixes. the first one is a collaboration between two highly respected artists: thomas gandey and radio slave. the two take the track further into tech-house territory with the percussion driving while multiple layers begin the fall into one another, achieving a beautifully elegant and jazzy end result. gutis vision is much deeper, with hints of dub here and there as the artists drives the tension up and creates a stunning groove. the final remix come from tuff city kids, who are known for their sometimes unconventional approach to making music, and in this case, it works. they channel a raw vibe and create something that is quite possibly the furthest thing from the original in terms of percussion. the pianos keep the thread strong, and the rhythm takes care of the rest.

this polyrhythmic swirl of drum machine, tape echo and locked grooves is the product of two post-1982 jam sessions between an anonymous dj and drum machine operator duo. the dj liked the way a record happened to skip. more were made to do so. the drum machine operator had had a bit too much, but he knew that 100 divided by 3 was 33 - and he was feeling the toms that night. file under: funky experimental.

barac returns to cluj’s midi records, this time with a whole release at his disposal. seen and unseen is an unsung rite of passage, marking the moment of stepping out of his confort zone, from the deep waters of house music with a gentle touch of nostalgia, to reveal a tiny bit of his techno subconscious. both tracks are slow cooked under baracs signature jagged groove, balancing the energy between both ends of the frequency spectre like a shaman guiding the crowd from light to darkness and back on every single loop.

electroacoustic experiments and filmic elements define the music that develops instinctively yet irrevocably, a sense of forward motion setting them apart. compositionally minimal, these tracks maximize their inherent potential all the way through to their logical and even illogical end. referencing electronica, ambient, shoegaze and at times modern classical harmonics, monochord builds and unbuilds in a slow heartbeat. introspective and filmic, its quiet and non-confrontational nature makes monochord move in the interzone between various spheres. their music escapes definition and that is its truest definition. its subtle pulse and evocative and drony feel invite and inspire.

vactrol park, the collaborative endeavor between kyle martin (land of light) and guido zen (brain machine), returns to the esp institute with ii, rounding out the second half of their ep series. for this installment, a sojourn was made to stockholm to record at the computer music mecca, ems (elektronmusikstudion), where the artists had the opportunity to experiment extensively with the legendary buchla 200 modular and serge modular, two of the rarest and most pornographic modular synthesizers in existence. while both instruments originate from california (buchla in berkeley as a commission from pioneer morton subotnik, and serge at the california institute of the arts), the music vactrol park draws from these machines is far from warm and sunny. akin to their predecessors on the 2015 debut i, these works materialize a level of taste and measure of craft that’s unattainable by most, each retaining an individual cinematic approach yet working collectively toward one consummate goal—paralysis.

qnete’s ep is not the question and not the answer. it’s in a hiatus between hopes and fears, still maintaining an eager energy. within a short period of time all tracks were recorded straight to tape, raw and improvised. they remember the sun bath before the storm, when you feel that something is about to roll over you. they express the urge and need to sometimes just jump into the cold water to face what’s coming next. they linger in the nervous energy when you’re lost and don’t know what to expect. but they also talk about the hope of finding a safe place.

the fifth release on our lehult imprint introduces the unique sounds of yet another talent from our crew. after already appearing on our third release, the 8040 ep is dj assam’s first full length release, that showcases his deep and textured productions. in between slightly skipping grooves, atmospherical chords and thumping basslines, dj assam manages to create a atmosphere that offers just the right tension between seductive warmth and dark melancholy, between intimate proximity and distance, between uplifting groove and thoughtful introspection. it comes in a beautiful full-cover showing the deep forest of lehult, as visual counterpart to the sounds of the ep.

after a sterling remix for alka rex’s ep on nervmusic, kamran sadeghi is back to the family with a double ep that features 4 original tracks. this release runs the gamut from peaktime to after-hours, including a class remix from the likes of jens zimmermann.

so far the most -punk- release in the borft catalog. this is the meeting between johan sturesson (kord) and petter svensson (nebula). while petter has his background as a punkrocker johan has some years of experience in the electronic vein this meeting result in a ebm/punk/techno ep dirtier than ever. lim ed 300x handstamped + sticker.

it’s been a while since planet rhythm released an entire lp project. who else to thread into album territories than ukranian planet rhythm stalwart yan cook. after releasing various efforts through the rotterdam based imprint over the last few years, yan cook comes up with a double lp consisting of 2 discs with 2 tracks on each side. whilst shifting between various sides of the yan cook identity the xx lp proves to be an effective and bulding package over mechanic techno sounds with strong builds and exciting taints of fx.

schwefelgelb is the electronic music project of sid & eddy. having carefully straddled the boundaries between techno, ebm and electro, the duo is entering 2016 with a 12” release on the new label incarnation of the berlin based fleisch collective. fleisch consists of a group of miscreants known for throwing some of the best curated dark underground dance parties in berlin, with a focus on sounds ranging from e.b.m., new beat, acid to techno. the metamorphosis of fleisch into a label could not demand a more fitting debut than schwefelgelb’s newest sonic discharge. tight programming, catchy analog synth-bass coupled with well utilized & frenetic shouted vocals echo the golden age of electronic body music. a refreshing progression of sounds moves the style forward without being afflicted with the formulaic and hollow tendencies befallen similar attempts by others acts over the years.

available on limited edition triple vinyl (via dj specialty shops) this is a compilation of nine tracks remixed (between 1979 and 1982) by larry levan, the dj behind new yorks famously influential nightclub, the paradise garage. levan is a producer and remixer who, though he died in 1992, continues to be cited as one of the industry s greatest and most revered. each of the nine individual full-length tracks was digitally remastered specifically for this project. the sound quality is brilliant! the compilation comes complete with comprehensive liner notes giving the label s history, its relationship with levan and anecdotes about each of the nine remixes and how each came about. originally released in 1999 this release has been fully re created for 2016. released in conjunction with west end

for the latest instalment in the apollonia story we look to argentina and the talented producer federico molinari. having been based in germany for the last couple of decades, federico has refined his sound, developing a strong signature through his dj sets and his studio productions, most of which he has released via his label oslo. federicos ability to craft effortless grooves and timeless rhythms is evident here on this killer new three-tracker. side a is the eight-minute long roller * congo toys*. the focus here is on a crisp 4x4 beat, which keeps things simple – under this lies a sturdy bassline. all the while, the low end is accompanied by a series of bleeps, which could almost be the chatter between two archaic computers, modulated and weaving in and out of the beats and bass. on the flip, we have two more dance floor-ready joints. like * congo toys*, * tres cuartos* is focused around a simple foundation, with layers of unusual effects – an overriding sense of playfulness comes through in molinaris production, perfect for the boogie down crew. last up, * joyfex* takes us further into leftfield, hypnotic, hazy atmospherics draw us into their web and we are tangled up in a mesh of vibrating whirrs and echoing, distorted voices. sublime business from an apollonia favorite…

after putting out a string of brilliant singles and ep s in the past few years, slavaki is up with his first artist album. it s hard to believe it s taken him 7 years since the first release, to come up with the idea of releasing a full-length. no wonder, tracks have gotten time-tested, and have been carefully selected out of over 10 continuous hours of material written in the period between the year 2011 and 2015. out on artist’s home label elusive at the beginning of 2016 on limited 2x12 inch vinyl. this album is another peek into slavakis ever-expanding chest of musical treasures that never seems to fail to surprise.
