nice price deal !!! the ever-prolific curtis lynch strikes again with this new reggae roots dub series, access denied. trinidad & tobago born franz job lends his vocals to the n side of this sound system killer with a tune called >i used to<. franz describes how he used to be afraid to speak his mind but now he is a rebel for the cause. the second track on this side is from curtis lynch who plays steel pans across the rip roaring dub.
the m side features another rising reggae star, massicker, originally from jamaica and currently residing in boston. massicker is a superb writer and this tune is his calling card as he explains the decline of personal interaction due to the rise of social network sites and mobile phones. the second track on this side is the customary heavy grynch dub, with plenty of echo, reverb, drum and, of course, a devastating bassline. sure to please all lovers of roots music as well as flavours to spice the jungle and dubstep crews.

zweifellos ist es die zusammenarbeit des pop-jahres 2009: die pet shop boys haben sich für ihr neues studioalbum »yes« mit dem hit-produzententeam xenomania (girls aloud, sugababes, gabriella cilmi etc.) zusammengetan.
die pet shop boys, die bei der brit-award-verleihung am 18. februar 2009 mit dem preis für ihren außergewöhnlichen beitrag zur musik ausgezeichnet wurden, haben drei der elf songs gemeinsam mit xenomania geschrieben. die übrigen stücke entstammen der feder von tennant/lowe, bei »all over the world« hat tschaikovsky einige ideen beigesteuert.
als vorbote des neuen albums »yes« wurde am 13. märz 2009 die single »love etc« veröffentlicht. die pet shop boys beschreiben diesen song als »post-lifestyle-hymne«, die mit nichts, was sie jemals zuvor gemacht haben, vergleichbar ist.
chris lowe äußert sich begeistert: »dieses album ist beeindruckend. es war toll, mit xenomania zu arbeiten!« und neil tennant findet: »es ist ein fantastisches, weit gefächertes popalbum.«

die reggae anthology-serie präsentiert zwölf ausgesuchte singles auf longplay-vinyl, die alle zwischen 1972 und 1985 veröffentlicht wurden. inklusive der beiden 12-inch maxi-single versionen -promised land- (extended mix), der in kooperation mit der renommierten uk-gruppe aswad entstand, und -children of israel- (special 12- mix), produziert von ossie hibbert. darüber hinaus gibt es seltene 7inch single a-seiten, die von jackie mittoo, niney the observer, phil pratt, herman chin-loy, joe gibbs & errol thompson, derrick harriott und dennis brown & castro brown produziert wurden. die aufnahmen wurden von den musikern der backing bands eingespielt: the taxi gang, the professionals, the now generation, crystalites. aggrovators, roots radics und soul syndicate. erstmalig erschien diese lp parallel zu dem 2cd+dvd set -crown prince of reggae- im jahre 2010 und ist jetzt wieder erhältlich!

die idee zu diesem album kam victoria legrand und alex scally als sie feststellten, dass es eine vielzahl an songs gibt, die es nie auf eines der sechs studioalben der band geschafft haben. in den meisten fällen lag das einfach an dem konzept der verschiedenen werke. der älteste song in dieser sammlung, -rain in numbers-, stammt aus dem jahr 2005, als die band gegründet wurde. andere songs wurden auf tour geschrieben oder während verschiedener sessions aufgenommen. mit -chariot- und -baseball diamond- finden sich zwei songs auf dem album, die bisher unveröffentlicht sind und während der aufnahmen zu -depression cherry- sowie -thank your lucky stars- entstanden sind.
