arttu is back on royal oak after his critically acclaimed nuclear funk / get up of it release late 2011. another split single featuring two detroit jazz and funk vocalists. the female poet diamondancer on tune in and the his buddy from jerry the cat on move! arttu smoothly blends his roots in the best house traditions with contemporary influences on these two tracks. recommended!!

total control dislocate expectations with this inaugural home loan records 12 inch. not the charged up paranoid vox/guitar/drums combo that we have become accustomed to through their visceral live shows - instead men with machines producing pensive proto-tech experiments and tense industrial wave. includes the original version of carpet rash which was re-recorded in full band mode for henge beat, and two previously unreleased immersive rhythm tracks formed through collaboration between guitarist mikey young and drummer james vinciguerra. vinciguerra would fire deranged beats down the hole while young would jam over them, watching waves in a trance from his perch at phillip island. on the flip we find two reconstructions from home loan manager michael ozone. carpet rash receives the club re-contextualisation with ozone fully utilising its penetrating synth hook, while new age hop climbs the arabic scale.

edux return from a winter hibernation and summer of partying with some more essential wax. machete savane is their latest signing, aka studio supremo saul richards & andy bainbridge, an integral part on well respected and notoriously raucous party people bad passion andy has perfectly distilled what drives the bad passion dancefloor in the excellent >elysian fields<, and who better to put a unique stamp on the track than their main resident guest felix dickinson. he takes the track into bolder, dubbed out and altogether more acid house territory, while keeping the live elements to the fore. finally mid op amps up the drum machinery, and lays out another corking balearic with balls workout. quality stuff as always.

chairlift present takes on several cuts from acclaimed second album >something< by some of their favorite producers, showcasing how their songs can easily be adapted for the club. appropriately titled the 6.15amix, spanish equipo fantástico john talabot and pional turn >i belong in your arms< into a balearica-infused club-closer. a nifty piano line and seductive rhythm take the song on a late night (or rather early morning) trip to the beach, while carolines voice is being warped into something from outer space. photek takes the same track to a whole different place with his powerful jungle interpretation. martyn respects both the pace and rhythm of sidewalk safari, yet exchanges the clean production for a rather more cosmic beat, incorporating many of his signature touches to compliment the sinister >i m gonna hunt you down< lyric. dan careys dub mix of >sidewalk safari< shows a more playful side, while arguably the most intriguing remix of the package is the fields take on >met before<, recalling his early work it is so warped and layered you may struggle to imagine the original minus the smallest of hints.

in the context of shigetos debut lp lineage, >huron river drive< functions as a respite of sorts, a brief stop on the roadside of a very personal into the past. but as this single release proves, it also stands alone as a pleasantly understated piece of electronic beauty. the track swells slowly from the simple chord sequence of the intro into a lushly textured slice of late-night atmospherics – with more than a hint of jazz to be found in the brushed percussion and quietly tinkling electronic piano – and then receding back into the same sequence as the track draws to a close.

highly recommended!unity is the first single taken from third sides forthcoming album unified fields, that will be released on restoration records in september 2012. third side is the project of the analogue cops and panorama bar resident steffi, their collaborations, which have been released exclusively on restoration, have been of the most interesting jams of the last years. the original unity, a fat overshadowing deep techno track, written and produced only with machines and recorded on tape, comes with 3 massive analogue remixes. the rework made by blawan (sheworks/hessle audio) smashes the parts of the composition with overbearing oldschool british manners and the result is a broken shuffled industrial hammering. on side b, steffis remix is relentless, rushing and carefully build:her attention for the processing of every detail transforms the original tune into an hypnotic breathtaking excursion. the last treatment is performed by the nightjars, an unidentified project that has brought down a particular attention for its debut ep on vae victis records. with a bossy employ of the most advanced analogue equipment, the nightjars slash an incendiary attack of warehouse garage.

nice price deal !!! vae victis is back for its 2nd release and is glad to welcome the very first debut of nightjars. with this 4 tracks ep the label shifts on a different musical path, sound and style wise. sound wise, both sides are written, mixed and produced on hardwares and polarized on a ferromagnetic tape. technically, side a (raw side) is mixed with a tough multitrack mixer brought to its saturation limit: the sound is indeed distorted, raw and unfriendly. while the flipside (clean side) is instead mixed with a big class a vintage studio mixer. the sound is brighter, richer of harmonics and the infrasounds are charged thru a wide dynamic range. style wise,the label shifts on a more broken beat field, lets call it bass, dubstep or whatever, but anyway something which should put this vinyl in the records bags of all the lovers of shed, peverelist and horsepower productions to name a few.

>aspen< is the name of christian loefflers single before his debut album on ki called >a forest<. the name of the single is not to be misunderstood as a dedication to the ski resort in colorado. its rather a dedication to christian loefflers home region in the north of germany. loeffler walked out into the forests near darss, to take field recordings of the trees that commonly grow in that area, which are called >aspen<. the landscape near darss is characterized by signs of storm and rough sea climate, but is also considered as a popular health resort in germany. the tracks on >aspen< create this contrary atmosphere: noise and silence, destruction and peacefulness, electronic sounds and traditional instruments unite in harmony. the cover artwork for >aspen< was taken by christian loeffler himself in the forests of darss.

seven tracks on the new lowriders release and its a real joy to listen to! the ep opens with the cheerful title track with the likes of kissey on vocals and it is amazingly sticky and feels like a compendium of 30 years of electronic music, with seemingly effortless transitions between detroit house, booty bass and future music.baby treats you on a twostep/house bumper which will kill you. bek is like your 808 swingbeat ghetto track: redundancy to the bone covered with bubbles and some essential vocoder science. sduk makes baby into a dancefloor stomper, whereas starkeys interpretation of field (which appeared on our beatitude compiler) adds and enhances drama and suspense from the original.and then there is the magical krampfhaft remix of tic tac toe, a worthy last track, schizofrenic, driven and recognizable as a mutated juke screamer.
