this is the 6th release on riot radio records, an independent techno label based in scotland. for more than 15 years the cannibal cooking club has been bangin’ out the shizzle with its rough and varied cuisine. not only cooking for the german locals but for their larger international clientele with a unique selected palate of ingredients. these two chefs satisfy even the most demanding of guests with their special technoid recipes. the menu for this release includes two original tracks by these crackerjack cuisiniers and two exceptional remixes by their chef de parties, subhead and dj ze migl. this is the 1st of many release to stem from our 5th release ‘stay tuned sampler – vol. i’ whereby each artist on that compilation will be getting their own individual release. ccc poured us the most devine ‘romulan ale’ on that one for starters ……….. this is the main course. so get your forks n’ spoons n’ dancin’ boots at the ready for this sumptuous bangin’ repast.

when the one o ones originally released radio cosmo disco back in 1977 it was confined to 7inch, which is no place for such majestic cosmic groove exploration. now best records are continuing their quest to repress every hidden gem of italian dance music and beyond, and they re doing radio cosmo 101 the right way. the full disco version of the track gets to stretch out on a full 12inch side, and does so in a dreamy haze of feel good funk. you can still hear the radio edit on the flip, and the original instrumental jam is included for those who want to drift away on those sumptuous tones of the backing track.

the ebm-indebted techno funk of james welshs thread reemerges from the industrial fog, evolved into two outstanding remixes by a trio of established, emerging and somewhat unexpected artists. ozel ab delivers his debut remix, reimagining thread to encompass a widescreen vision of depth and drama. unfolding slowly and ethereally, with military kicks holding down a seemingly weightless, extended breakdown, his taste in dreamlike rave euphoria contains the same magic touch as it has done on previous, acclaimed releases for workshop and lobster theremin. on his garten remix, radio slave takes a percussive approach to the relatively raw electronics of the original track, adding a deceptively simple but immediately effective layer of drums to the production, before unleashing a more filtered and fucked-up interpretation of the riff to winning effect.

rekids celebrates 10 years of radio slave’s ‘grindhouse’ with remixes from len faki, slam, obscure shape & shdw, vatican shadow, markus suckut, lady starlight and special request. first appearing on a release as part of radio slave’s iconic ‘no sleep’ series, ‘grindhouse’ spawned multiple remixes from the likes of dubfire, danton eeprom, terrance fixmer and nic fanciulli to become one of the biggest techno records since its original release. to commemorate this fact, len faki has produced two different reinterpretations in the first of four heavyweight remix packages.
“i didn’t plan to go back to grindhouse. it’s a monster of a record and undoubtedly the biggest release we’ve had on the label, but after 10 years it seems right to revisit the track and also add some new versions from some of my favourite techno producers.- – radio slave with danton eeprom’s vocal resonating throughout, faki’s first remix features crunchy snares, ominous chords and shuffling effects before piercing synths come into effect in the latter half. meanwhile, the second version rumbles forward with its undulating bassline, soaring atmospherics and echoing elements to round up two solid productions exemplary of the figure founder’s seasoned abilities in the studio.

rekids founder radio slave readies a colossal double a-side titled ‘overdue’ this june. “‘the revenge’ is my homage to clubs like “rage- and my days growing up in london-, says matt edwards. “the reverse’ came from some late night studio sessions in february and i’ve had a lot of fun playing this out. all i can say is it’s very me - stripped back and made for the dance floor”. urban field recordings and a spoken word sample set the tone in ‘revenge’ before an onslaught of breaks erupt into a frenzy, the overall aesthetic borrows upon numerous uk rave hallmarks whilst sounding fresh and impeccably geared for modern dj use. meanwhile, ‘reverse’ is a quintessential radio slave record with its polished production, repetitive minimalism and atmospheric aura – rounding off a two-tracker expertly produced with the dancefloor in mind.

this is the 3rd release on riot radio records, an independent techno label based in scotland. ingen is an edinburgh based producer who s sound is one of harsh complex poly-rhythms and soundscapes that crosses over into the darker realms of techno. over the years he s appeared on many respected labels and also works regularly on projects with some of the worlds techno elite. for those lucky enough to see him battering out his stunning live sets, playing alongside such lumineries as surgeon, whitehouse and the advent, these humbled few know exactly what extremes ingen is capable of reaching to crush your senses into submission. on this release, along with the original version of haste makes waste , there are remixes of this beast of track by lag, martyn hare, paul birken, duellist and the riot remix (ingeneered by taser), each one taking the original composition down a different track. the ingeneers have spoken.

charlie watts meets the danish radio big band is the kind of album that many jazz fans had probably given up hope of hearing. in the glory days of big band jazz and arrangers like oliver nelson coming up with brilliant music, albums like this were, if not commonplace, at least more readily available. the truth is there is nothing commonplace about this album, it is a sheer delight.
anyone who knows charlie, knows how much he loves jazz. a few years ago when he and i were looking at a photo of the stones playing in the 1960s he pointed at a particular cymbal and said, “i’ve still got that cymbal, but i don’t use it on stones’ gigs, it’s too good for them. i just use it on my jazz gigs.” there’s no doubt, that’s the cymbal you hear on the first part of the ‘elvin suite’.
charlie watts is one of the great ambassadors for jazz and every jazz lover will relish this record, and the fact that charlie is involved may bring jazz to the attention of some that are not sure if they like jazz. listen to this and you know you do.

a few years ago i saw a documentary about the audio trickery employed in ww2. i was totally flabbergasted and soon absorbed anything i could find on the subject. artists and scientists alike cooked up incredible situations to fool the german army. inflatable tanks and trucks stacked with speakers projecting recordings of an imaginary reality were used to deceive and deviate the opponent. this odd scenario influenced me profoundly and drove me towards composing music that related these feelings. the project only collected dust inside my head until radio bongo heard of it and encouraged me to finish. sveinbjörn bjarki jónsson aka sonic deception

radio bands radio rap the one and only single by a group of djs from the radio fantasy pirate station has long been an in-demand gem with italo-disco diggers and balearic heads alike. with original copies both hard to find and expensive (currently hovering around the l60 mark online), it s great to see archeo recordings giving the 1984 cut a much-needed reissue on heavyweight vinyl. the quirky vocal version a loose and funky disco-rap record with additional boogie synths and all italian vocals is accompanied by the superb instrumental version, which perfectly showcases danilo ciarchi s superb production.

the title track >radio anatomy< is a synth-laden italo monster, serious dance-floor material. detuned pads fizz under an arp and walking bass, caving in to a tear-away synth lead that pumps the tune into overdrive. the groove has a pace to it and sits on top of the beat and all surrounding articulation and effects keep things interesting.
on the flip we have got a serious remix from none other than emperor machine. this guy has been unstoppable in the remix department for some time, and it doesnt look like he will be faltering anytime soon! we are initiated with brioskis fantastic original bass and pad sequence, but in typical e.m. fashion the build up is sustained and full of suspense. haunting vocal chants ensue before the bass drops and the funk kicks in. what a drop! the switches are clever, the instrumentation is solid and the vibe is out of this world. brioski - >radio anatomy is an unforgiving italo dance-floor release, with help from one of nangs finer contributors.
