altair nouveau consists of one brandon mitchell, a young producer from the west coast currently residing in san francisco. altair nouveaus music, though designed with the dance floor in mind, still evokes a personal element. it is the combination of these elements that give altair nouveau his indistinguishable larger than life, spaced-out future disco sound sure to cause a dance floor frenzy. raised in the sprawling city of san jose, california to musical parents. mitchell grew up with the encouragement of his father, an electronic music teacher at the local community college. brandon began educating himself by collecting albums from the likes of giorgio moroder, vangelis, ennio morricone and john carpenter. this gave way to newer acts such as in flagranti, prins thomas, lindstrom and several artists on dfa. the title track æspace fortress marks a bold and exciting introduction into the sonic landscape of mr. nouveau, combining g funk, p funk and a 4/4 disco foundation that adds up to something otherworldly altogether. released as a joint effort with the uber-hip dfa records this 12 features mixes exclusive to this release from ultra-talented irishman john daly who turns out a deeper take while michel morins criminally underrated nom-de-plume sneak-thief takes it deeper into spacey disco-funk territory.

this special release is dedicated to detroit dj legend ken collier. his untimely passing touched me personally as he was one of a small few who supported my music and me. because of ken collier, detroit developed a dance scene, which inspired artists & producers to make dance records, which gave birth to techno, which has provided careers for so many of you in the business today. so i dare ask all you techno producers, djs, record labels, record shops, clubs which play techno music and fans of techno to pay respect to ken collier just as you would our other fine music innovators. however, this special compilation isn t about techno, it s about h.o.u.s.e sound - broadcasting it to you from live inside the st-er-eo. this record contains no artist or track listing because i don t want this to be about who made the tracks, track titles, or even who wrote this commentary. this is my personal tribute to him, and how he has motivat ed me to make my contributions to house music. thank you ken collier, for helping me grow, not just as a dj or a record producer, but also as a person. every dj and dance artist here in detroit owes thanks to you for going out into the musical forest, chopping down trees and paving the way for us to build house.

as costello continues to look long, the grooves continue to flow. lng3 sees the reissue of the deep house classic pleite which originally appeared on trapez in 2003. recorded in dublin in 2002, this version has been mastered at dubplates and mastering, berlin in 2009. the results are stunning and serve as a welcome reminder of costelloÆs deep roots. pleite (costello dub) in particular could teach some of todayÆs hyperactive producers a thing or two about setting up a solid groove and letting it sit. the timing of this reissue could not be more perfect with regard to the current musical zeitgeist. the title, a german colloquialism for broke or indeed bankrupt which was an in-joke at the time of the original release, takes on a new significance in the context of global economic recession.

who the hell are bleep district i hear you ask? well for those of you who havent heard their awsome debut on replay records they are matt powell a founding dj of the legendary quadrant soundsystem and the inappropriately nicknamed matt rhythm who rumour has it spends his spare time pressing random buttons as one half of deep house anti-heroes rhythm plate. coming straight out of leftfield, bleep district have exploded onto the deep house scene like a musical gas leak. their quirky, chunky, dancefloor orientated beats causing serious damage on dancefloors and working mens clubs around the counrty. these two devout christians and still practising altar boys have decided to continue the religious theme of the bleep of faith ep on the highly respected winding road and titled their debut for ornate music… end days ep. revelations (rapture rub) kicks of the ep with a clearly deluded shaun ryderesque gentleman professing his faith over a big moody analogue bass and detroit style stabs on a track that would make the staunchest non believers begging for absolution! and on revelations (pillar of salt dub) they take things nice and deep for those more reflective moments in the evening.

crimea x is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, dj rocca (ajello, super sonic lovers, maffia sound system) and jukka reverberi from 90s italian glam cult rockers, giardini di mir, who have often have been compared with the sound of mogwai, arab strap, godspeed you! black emperor. hailing from the far flung cosmos of reggio emilia, italys coolest post rock, cosmic disco outfit, crimea x launch a stellar ep of musical gems titled, phoros, get ready for pure, spaced out balearic bliss as the italo duo take you on a round trip journey to the electro cosmos and back. dj rocca and jukka were brought together by the common passion for cosmic imaginary soundscapes, where kraut rock fuses with the predilection for marxist thought and political stories of last century. the end product is a tantalising myriad of musical styles and tongue in cheek ethos, satirising the sociopolitical climate of our modern era.
