swedish artist farbror resande mac debuts on mystic & quantum with the six track album yttre rymden, having first surfaced earlier this year with a fine outing on is it balearic? if you are familiar with mystic & quantum, you know the label deals in lovingly presented releases of a musically conceptual nature, and yttre rymden retains that status quo. a typically cryptic introduction from the label states the following: yttre rymden is a travel by boat leading to adventures around the world. yttre rymden might mean outer space but what defines outer space sometimes depend on which way you look at things. this story looks at the outside world from within and utilizes travels and adventures as a way to explore the world as outer space.

365 million years ago a meteorite crashed with tremendous force in the middle of a land mass that much later would be called sweden, creating one of her largest lakes. the area around this lake, siljan, has always been an epicenter of swedish folklore, with many tales of beautiful but dangerous creatures of the ancient forests and deep vales. perhaps, then, it s no coincidence that the skies over siljan later became the focus of unexplainable sightings, or that small societies appeared, claiming strong indications of extraterrestrial activities on the bottom of the lake itself. the tales may change over time, but the mysterious lake remains the same. and now the time has come for a new tale from siljan. producer colleagues hans berg and johanna knutsson have spent long periods of time in a studio by this lake. feeling a bit like aliens themselves with their blinking and bleeping music machines, the label name ufo station recordings came naturally. little raver ep is the first release, and throughout the three tracks you can clearly sense the contrast between the scenic landscape and sounds inspired by space and alien technology: shimmering ethereal melodies over classic, very fulfilling drum machines. the melancholic singing of space whales over deep and bubbly analog basses. the little raver ep is a house music ufo destined to arouse wonder and astonishment on any dance floor.

the red laser records ep series continues to explore the realms of italo, acid house, new romantic and disco flavours. nick smith brings the early 90s house heat with in motion. this is a four four dancer that is built solid. minimal chunky house grooves for disco journeys. hot sporran is a producer that has been around a long time and may be better known as phoreski and richard gateaux. as hot sporran he gets to express deeper and darker realms. xplorer journeys to detroit techno with strong flavours of new romanticism making a unique and wonderful disco sound. leonxleon does what it say on the tin. if there is another track out there called acid disco i bet you 100 quid this smashes it up and stuffs it in a bin. this is an all out hands in the air, euphoric disco bomb. theme from ferranti is a fantastically moody slice of sensual italo in true starion style. finishing off another epic red laser ep series perfectly.

ptakis tunes soar wide-winged like their translation (bird) infers. with a breakout single under their belts on the very polish cut-outs krystina and a swirling vapour of mystique surrounding them, the duo present their first full 12 inch of original material which is both contemplative and transfixing. the kalina ep on young adults recordings clocks in around 25 minutes, but the ground it covers cannot be clearly conveyed through conventional cartography - a birdseye view of jagged cliffs, coastal haze, rolling bagpipe hillsides, and smoke signals.

a soul experiment is the fourteenth album by trumpeter freddie hubbard recorded between 1968/1969 and released in 1969. it was his third release on the atlantic label and features performances by hubbard, carlos garnett on tenor sax, kenny barron on piano, gary illingworth plays the organ, billy butler & eric gale on guitar, jerry jemmott on bass, and grady tate & bernard purdie on drums. pressing on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

sev dah brings his brand of powerful, no-nonsense techno with the mighty, pounding xanax. life of the unborn takes a more experimental approach and offers a dark and haunting soundscape. inter gritty is on remix duty, stripping it down and turning the ep around with his jacking, chicago-inspired take on xanax.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.
