the opening hits of the percussion stay smooth and relaxed, and the instruments come in one-by-one – first the synth, then the strings, then the brass – to create an experience thats both engaging and relaxing. this is the sort of music i would listen to if i cruised the streets of san francisco in the evenings. as >back to the bay< wraps up and pulls us into his remix of >screw up<, we get a dose of subscapes intensity, but its quickly pulled back into matty gs signature low-bass, hip-hop/dubstep fusion beats. >jam like a tek< adds in some vocal hooks to get the crowd chanting – and you are missing out if you dont add this into your mix. deep kick drums, a snappy snare, big distortion on the scratchy bass wobbles, and the vocals all come together perfectly to create a track thatll get people grinding like mad on the dancefloor.

the tracks blend the best of booth producers, rachmads detroit influence shaped with lauxs dynamic style. the title track viking, is led by a synth that sweeps in an almost hyperventilating rhythm that raising the track with a series of industrial ticks and clicks that flavour the german, dutch and detroit mix. a dark bassline leads the track into its climax where glitchy synths squeak and stretch before the track drops. carlos is a track that bounces with groove. morse-like rhythmic bleeps carry the track cementing the individuality that is created in the ep. awash with sweeping sounds, the track gains a smoother feeling of deep techno demostrating their delicacy. 7tine is a juggernaut with a dark, heavy rhythm, showing the industrial power of the pairs production. flanged distortion scratching like fingernails give the track a tense edge, while simple yet powerful synths steer the ep into an eerie conclusion.

whether on his own or with nick hoppner as my my lee jones has been djing and making music for more than a decade. in 2008 jones released his debut full-length lp “electronic frank” on aus music. his solo releases and remixes have appeared on labels such as aus music, ostgut ton, liebe*detail and cityfox and last year, he did his first ever mix cd for the world famous watergate club. next up from the talented producer is a futuristic 4-tracker on aus, incl 2 remixes from george fitzgerald and midland. for the lead track moment, jones offers up a bass driven house number that hints at his jazz roots whilst pushing forward into garage territory. for the remix, george fitzgerald delivers his most straight up, heads down house production to date. next up is duvel, a characteristically quirky jones production, bouncy and deep all at once but with a bass line that will hold its own at peak time. midland steps up for the remix, twisting it into a moody multi-genre convergence like only he can.

ramona is pretty nervous to welcome a new name to her ever-growing happy family. in fact, its actually an old band member. christian beisswenger alias cb funk alias one half of arto mwambe is not exactly one you would call a stranger. for >77 reasons< he debuts as the citizens band with some novel sounds on risky grounds. in love with details, fragile sounds, little tricks and with a fine ear for the action, the band leader tiptoes into deep bleepy house just enough to call >west 42nd< exactly that. >77 reasons< however plays around with a memorable little melody, a skanking lead and some boom sonics. whatever you want to call it, ramona is fine with it. orson and kane would be proud.

the singular threads of the musical fabric that is barrio weedwagon are too numerous and long to trace the beginnings. however, the story does indeed have a start. the spark first took flame on a dance floor deep in the heliopolis favela of são paulo, brazil. after this initial shared out of body experience about 2012, barrio weedwagon can best summed up in these words: emerging from a black hole in the center of the milky way galaxy, the beings who would claim the name barrio weedwagon were awakened. the steady stream of organized radio frequencies from earth became a soothing and yet tantalizing lullaby for our heroes.
