when diamond district dropped in the ruff on mello music group in 2009, the gritty drums and grimy raps combined as elementally as hydrogen and oxygen. the d.c. voltron of oddisee, yu, and x.o. dusted off and revitalized a sound once consigned to the catacombs. hailed as an instance classic, its impact reverberated throughout the underground and mainstream. the washington d.c. city paper called it the citys best album in many years. during an era when lyricism was deemed too intellectual and samples too dated, diamond district overturned conventional logic. they preserved the raw and made it righteous. a half-decade later, the holy trinity has returned with march on washington. the truths remain timeless. wisdom over rhythm. slang turned into testament.

a lot of water has passed under the bridge since the release of etienne jaumet’s night music, dating from october 2009. his hypnotizing music and enchanting live performances put him directly on the map. it’s just him who is in control of his ship. he moves without complexes from his saxophone to his drum machine (his beloved tr 808) while turning knobs modulating synths, and sending his voice through an echo.la visite, etienne’s brand new album, more luminous and jazzy than its predecessor, has been composed and produced within a two month period in the versatile studio. it became a piece of introspection, mentally as well as physically. in the title track, for which flop wrote the text, we hear etienne travelling through the inside of a body, fantastic voyage style.it is always surprising to see a record taking shape. etienne would arrive at the studio without any precise idea in head, approaching his work rather intuitively. he works standing up, which brings a very different energy than being seated behind a computer polishing up every detail. he is in total mastery of his set-up, ready to capture that short-lived moment of true creation. the only use a computer has for him, is to record his experiments - afterwards being mixed by jerome caron (blackjoy).in between night music and la visite, etienne has not been lazy. not only has he done numerous collaborations (amongst others with joakim, richard pinhas, francois & the atlas mountain) and picked up djing, he has also recorded a new zombie zombie album (rituels d’un nouveau monde) with cosmic neman, as well as the soundtrack loubia hamra. and he worked with artist felicie d estienne d orves on the installation satori. at this very moment, etienne and his saxophone are still part of the tour of james holden.

sound exists to be stolen, cut up, re-arranged, and turned on its head. good sound, once produced, should be preserved for proper arrangement. docile #21 is a collection of elements that have been captured from unique sources and fused into fluid creations. environment and progress of time are catalysts for a creation to form a process. dociles nameless and faceless process works to liberate a new sound and describe its’ own natural pattern. docile connects to the random to pull out patterns, those patterns can be honed down to construct a logical but abstract funk. mistakes are made and processed and reworked into a melody. nonsensical, indiscriminant, drunkin funk turns to soulful harmony with presence and conviction. immature tantrums and rambunchous crunching mask a bi-polar need for smooth rides with snacks and naps.

there are lots of producers out there who try really hard to do something else. then, there are these chosen few artists that effortlessly are something else in their own right. durian brothers and their magical array of modified turntables, sequencers and machines belong in this selected circle. so this mini album is a quite special and unconventional release, but that doesnt mean its not dance music - quite the opposite!

merck 274350 with its propulsive mechanical basslines, industrial-strength percussion, and a germanic vocodered mantra, this teutonic panzer tank of a track takes absolutely no prisoners - an electronic matter of fact statement inspired by the passing of time, fate, circumstance, and synchronicity. holland s misanthropic high priest of psychedelic, doomy, dark house & techno, drvg cvltvre, delivers a trippy interpretation, turning the track into a lysergic love letter to this iconic chemical catalyst, maintaining the dynamic bassline of the original but adding a nagging 303 line to deliver an explosive 3am dancefloor device. one step closer to heaven begins with a metronomic, rhythmic new beat stomp and a nagging insidious synth refrain that recalls the more electronic side of new order. muscular synth riffs then drop in and out of the mix, taking the track into dark ebm territory and ramping up the pressure before the influences of giorgio moroder and cerrone come to the fore, propelling the track into a rapture of hypnotic celestial electronic disco.

david k is the parisian-turned-berliner producer who has been a prominent artist within the underground house scene since the late 90s, having first joined forces with dan ghenacia of apollonia when releasing his bestseller * boul de nerf* on freak n chic. a fruitful career in production led to music on labels like cocoon, visionquest, supplement facts and bpitch control, while his new album * out of range * is just about to drop. ten years in the making and signed to tiefschwarzs souvenir, david proves his music is still as relevant today as ever. as one of the main artists on freak n chic, david k seemed a natural fit for apollonia to approach...* david is an old friend and talented produced who we have known from the beginning back in paris. of course we wanted to see what he could do for the new label, as you know by now we apollonia are always referring back to our roots. a 2-track package, * middle-aged romance* is characterised by its bell melody and hard-hitting bassline, an electric story moving between ethereal wonder and an intense workout. * drop the beat* perfectly demonstrates the classic chicago house style david k and apollonia first enjoyed together all those years ago, but adding a very modern, textured touch. coming 2014, apollonia invite premiesku to the label – the combination of livio & roby and their pal george g – and also the newest addition to the lola ed roster.

inside these airless sarcophagi, the passing of time renders objects once forged from molten metals as fragile as paper, so delicate a gust of wind could destroy them for ever. once deadly weapons now oxidised to dust are proof of the futility of man in the face of time. all regimes will crumble over years, all empires turn to dust…the more potent an object in its former life, the more poignancy in its nebulous disintegration. the shattered radio controls, the gun turned to a rusted block like a child s toy, the bullets corroded to nothing are all exiled from their brutal pasts. what messages are locked in time that passed through the obliterated decoding machine, who alive if anyone can tell its secrets.

dj cle & mike vamp aka maertini broes do it again. once more they flash us with a new contemporarily refreshed up-to-date mix of their super classic hit - flash from 2001. charmings strings are added to the trendy original and creating a cineastic and epic sound. this release turns the 001 of the label fromwithin definitly into something special. the ep contains remixes of italoboyz, marc miroir and of the fromwithin labelowners mark deutsche & musoé.

at its very first start, the new label founded by conrad van orton proposes a vinyl of his own with two original tracks on the a side, november and captivity archives. and two great remixers such as vsk and the mysterious annuled user on the other. just as the needle starts to mark the passage, the classic four quarters give life to a beat that between one step and another compresses catapulting reality in a classic industrial scenario of mid-autumn where the clear sky gets marked by black and deep plots. a background noise accompanies the whole programming part of the drumming that gives off a relentless pace. on the a side captivity archives reconfirms the industrial nature of cvo with a look towards distant galaxies ..... with the needle still hot we turn around the record to the b side. here we find the vsk remix with a more ambient and crystal clear sound. to the original drum, vsk, choose an equally technical percussion. all home made. last but not least the contribution given by annulled user. trademark? techno! .. and there is nothing here to mess about with. 4/4 dry, hard which feel anger and rebellion desire. the kick, fairly present, is ripped apart by some demonic filters. the 5.30 min of annulled user are a reminiscence of the 90s.

drawing from an acute sense of what could perhaps be described as deep minimalism-turned-into-a-quasi-equatorial-feast, full of holes gradually unfolds and weaves its fabrics in ways that are evocative of the disparate sensations and heady feelings one might run into in a proto-ritualistic setting, whilst xdbs recontextualisation routes a more linear but no less absorbing excursion.

eosophobia - a morbid fear of daylight. a title fitting of primary colours latest release by the australian duo, the echo inspectors. conceived on a dark autumn night, eosophobia is a creation of the strange and disturbed. entities materialize, delicate and shy, these beings thrive in the dark. their conviction becomes evident as the night sky turns a darker shade of black, a pulsating and heaving sub sonic landscape emerges for the creatures of the night. life is short lived as dark turns to light, they scampering in to the shadows. resoe, copenhagen s ruler of the deep and dub, takes control of this creation. forming and reconstructing it in to a more powerful, ravenous creature. a fear of light fuels this being to become menacing, unstable and unpredictable. vigour builds swiftly, seething as the cold autumn night goes on. confidence only grows stronger and stronger as the night feeds its hunger only to be destroyed with a sudden shard of light, withering to oblivion.

in the past year or so, lph has increasingly been turning its focus to sweden, grabbing records by hnny, m.d.c., and name in lights, and remixes from kornel kovacs and shakarchi & straneus. the labels next release, an ep by gothenburg-based newcomer, andre&#769,,,,, laos, indicates owners nik mercer and jacques renault have no intention of disassociating themselves from the nation!

the third album of depeche mode construction time again (1983) was the first one to include talented band member and arranger alan wilder to the mix. the album was recorded in john foxx s the garden studio in london and mixed in the famous hansa tonstudio in berlin, the latter being famous for its delivery of classic albums by artists like david bowie, iggy pop, nick cave and u2. experimenting with brand new instruments like the synclavier that allowed sampling to be manipulated musically, construction time again was a groundbreaking record that included industrial influences. these influences would come to full fruition on subsequent albums some great reward movlp940 and black celebration movlp947. songs like *pipeline*, *love in itself*, *shame* and *everything counts* turned out to become classic depeche material.

mint forza is once again so much pleased to present you its latest release. it is a reincarnation of a 2008 melancholic masterpiece from a russian guy sozonov. in this exact release we show you 2 different ways of view from 2 different but nevertheless interesting producers! the first one is a remix from one of a maitres of an electronic scene - joy kitikonti. full of an expression, dynamic - thats what it is. and to fulfill the picture with colors there comes more emotional version from the mint frame of mind. just turn it on!

berliners dirk leyers and nomad expressed their hard earned musical freedom in a dogma: the use of a roland tr-808 analog drum machine in every single track. they programmed the machine to lay poly-rhythms over multicultural drum and percussion tracks, fascinated -and sometimes puzzled- by its own characteristically sudden swing and accent changes, and named it: africaine 808 - their third and first female band member. in the first year of their musical joint venture, the three spent quite some time in remixing and editing some of their favourite african and island funk tunes, transforming the old gold into modern dj and dancefloor friendly tunes. the sound of organic grooves mixed with 808-beats and analogue synthesizer basslines became soon a trademark sound, and more and more samples got replaced by live played guitar, bass, organ and percussion. the trio experimented with different tempos and styles ranging from slow cumbia and exotic rumba themes to island-funk and percussive disco, electro and house. in spring 2012 they first took the project to another level, turning their tracks into a full live act at one of the vulkandance nights in berlin. today the project is growing and integrating guest musicians, drummers, percussionists and vocalists - for live performances as well as for recording in the studio. 100% sonic voodoo golf channel every time!

bristol music has always stood strongest as an alternative to the lowest common denominator, and so it is with brstl as the label continues to provide a platform to previously undiscovered talent in the underbelly of the citys flourishing house scene. following lauded debuts from shanti celeste and jay l, the sixth installment in the series turns to another unknown in the shape of samuel. as with other releases on brstl, 006 is made up of two distinct halves. on the a-side, >numberuma< delivers machine driven house of a rugged and charming nature. the drums switch up with playful intent but largely centre around a forward-charging 4/4 pulse with a faint hint of tropical flavour rubbed into the groove. meanwhile the limber lead keys speak of sunnier days through a cracked lens while the accompanying chord swells intone an equally uplifting and nostalgic message. while from the outset the track may be wrought from simple ingredients, the dynamic interplay between the different elements belies the producers years. on the flip, >groove therapy< opts for a more esoteric approach made up of long, dreamy lead-ins full of distant pads and delicate percussion and transitions as smooth as silk. indeed this track makes a smart foil to >numberuma<, choosing to snake its way into the subconscious through delicate melodic content and an undulating beat rather than rambunctious rhythm. slow-release filters draw that aforementioned pad in before sending it out to sea once more, and all the while the stripped back drums tick out a hypnotic chant. once again a pair of unique tracks loaded with character prove brstl to be an essential outpost for the most creative 4/4 music emanating from the west country.

gynoid ltd does it again! this time its a track produced exclusively on analogue gear by coeter one, and a relentless myk derill remix, who seems to turn everything into solid gold lately.the original 72 is all about the groove.

robosonic has been a pivotal part of off recordings roster, their releases being highly expected every time and usually meaning instant dancefloor melting magic. with a hip hop and techno background and adding many frequent flyer miles with worldwide gig schedule, the pair shows no sign of stopping. this time is no exception, cord and sacha get back in their creative roll of sample wizardry to provide two mouth watering jams. they once again prove their love for organic sounds and reivindicate the use of the turntable as an instrument, adding that old-school vibe to their trademark beats. macho madness is quite a trip, sweet rhodes over a bouncy bassline, great sample work adding guitars and an insane speech. as always, breakdowns are intense and its impossible not to dance to the groove!for the second track, robosonic joins another off family team, mat.joe and together they go deep into their hip hop influences again working the samples as only they could, a little disco flavor, a driving bass...all the ingredients are there for another instant classic and a respectful shout out to detroit producer legend j dilla, who left the game too early. r.i.p!

for this release kurbits once again turns to the romanian artist faster aka laurentiu suciu. since fasters last release on kurbits in 2011, the romanian has established his position on the scene with gigs all over the world and quality releases on labels such as vinyl club and rora. on this release we see faster continiung and developing the deep and hypnotic sounds of previous releases. orchestra modificata is something as rare as a subtle big track. the pads sure speak the language of big room business, but in combination with the exquisite percussion work, the track takes us to exciting unexplored dimensions. on the flip we have daca vrei. its radiant mood and the laid back breakbeats, make it the perfect ingridient for those early morning sessions when a little pinch of sunshine is all you need to take the crowd to party heaven. we sincerely hope you ll have as much pleasure with these tracks as we a have. we ll be back soon with new and exciting rhythms.

in the 1970s the american composer henry flynt started a series of pieces under the title >new american ethnic music<. in so doing he worked together native styles of music such as blues, country or hillbilly with electronic production methods to make something altogether new. so far in germany it has never been attempted to rework folklore electronically for a compilation. however, this picture changes if one redefines the idea of who the population is. incomers have brought new >national anthems< to germany, which means - even the portuguese fado, the african gnawa, the croatian klapa or the vietnamese quan ho are these days at home in germany. with the cultural project >heimatlieder aus deutschland< (native songs from germany) founded by former spex editor mark terkessidis and label manager jochen kühling all the various styles of traditional folk music now found in germany has been collected. thirteen of the songs recorded for the project have now been transformed by contemporary electronic producers to present a >new german ethnic music<. but why remixes? for one thing electronic music has recently focused a lot on the past (ghost music, hypnagogic pop etc.) – electronic editing is well suited to follow the effects of the immigrant music which the >imaginary national anthems< has created. furthermore the projects instigators were curious how >electronic musicians< would handle folk music and folk songs which is a hugely difficult task. to this end artists were sought out who could get along with the idea of each music style and who are known to already have experimented with the human voice. the results are as varied as the music styles and djs involved. some melodies remain completely intact while others are abstracted beyond recognition. margaret dygas associative approach ensured that she presents a polish song about a girls arranged marriage with a claustrophobic feeling. with his remix of the marrabenta of mozambique mark ernestus has continued the rhythmic experiments he is known for with jeri jeri. thomas mahmoud translated gnawa into dub and finaly ulrich schnauss turned the song of the italian chorus of >donni so< into a hymn for the horizon-expanding power of migration.hopefully this compilation will also expand some horizons.

keeping up a high rate of release but just as high level of quality, the cinematic label turns to german dj, producer and exploration label boss johannes volk for its next ep, with a typically idiosyncratic remix from greek dub techno man xdb. volk has been producing conceptual techno since 2006, debuting with a fine ep on the revered axis label run by techno royalty jeff mills. since then he has continued to evolve on labels like steffis dolly as well as his own vinyl only imprint, and does so once again on this release.

prime numbers return with m7. the first side is taken by a remix of wireman’s >armour<, the original of which was included on pn04 released at the end of last year. the remix is from move d (deep space network, source records), he ups the tempo and in trademark fashion softens the surfaces of the original, warming the core of the track whilst creating a bass heavy groove with twisting beats, synths and a husky hypnotic vocal sample. the flip includes two tracks. to start we have >crushed< by actress. darren j. cunningham aka actress runs the much lauded werk records and this track is taken from his limited cd only album >hazyville< (released on werk in the autumn of last year ) >crushed< is slo-mo, extra bass heavy, low slung house with an addictive lofi synth riff and submerged strings. the track bumps along with hiss and crackle to good affect before turning into a badalamenti-esque loop to finish. to round things off be, the up & coming manchester based producer provides >when you left<. be cut his teeth with the chicago based still music and a great al hudson reedit which found extensive dj support on its release. >when you left< is a shuffling downbeat house groove with a jazz sentiment featuring deep rhodes keys and clipped drums, the track breaks up into a bluesy accapella section then builds up to a more direct 4/4 groove to the end

superb reissue of ron trent s all-time deep techno classic altered states. made when he was still school-age, and released in 1990 on armandos seminal warehouse label, this record was an immediate underground club hit, turning ron into a local hero, kickstarting his hugely successful production and djing career and making him probably the only chicago house producer to rate one of the best techno singles of all time! this classic acid workout is stunning in its simplicity and has been described as one of the most perfect and moving tracks ever heard. the other tracks are also very beautiful in their own right despite having been overshadowed by the epic altered states - the afterlife was included on dj hells x-mix-5. all tracks digitally remastered for superb sound quality
