*stranger things* ist eine neue netflix-tv-serie, die gerade in deutschland gestartet ist und international große wellen schlägt. die mystery-serie bietet jede menge referenzen an die 80er jahre, vergleiche zu steven spielberg und stephen king werden gerne gezogen. nicht weniger im fokus: der kongeniale soundtrack von kyle dixon & michael stein. von atmosphärischen stücken bis hin zu treibenden synthie-pop reicht das musikalische spektrum. hier wird gerne eine parallele zu dem score von -drive- gezogen, wohl einem der ikonografischsten soundtracks der letzten jahre.
invada - das label von geoff barrows von portishead - hat sich die rechte für den soundtrack für europa besorgt und legt nun die doppel-lp vor. die ausstattung der lp - wie immer bei invada - ist luxuriös:

after almost two years “things from the basement” are back with another very patient contribution for kann. next to their very intimate and minimalist original jams the 6 tracker includes three different dancefloor focused remix approaches from sevensol, map,ache & polo. the label’s final record of 2016 consists of a wide ranging musical package, all tracks are sorted by genres but unified in the same vibe.

driven by the common 80 s diy-attitude, the 4th istheway release happens to be a cooperation for an absolute one-side vinyl, shinoby vs hypnobeat (james dean brown + helena hauff). the one-track (9:19min) is rooted in the concept of a -neo-tribal” approach, compressing electronics into an emotional, hypnotic and rhythmic core. the energy and the emotional impact of polyrhythms and the track turned out to be centered around the inimitable sound of the roland tr-808 plus a wide range of analogues gear including up to eight synchronized rhythm machines. vinyl only!

new york experimentalists sheik n beik continue on form as they follow up records from japans keita sano, legowelt & xosar and jeffrey scott with a bold and atmospheric 12inch from jerry riggs & maxwell church a.k.a hermans. hailing from toronto - hermans specialise in their own brand of esoteric techno that lends them perfectly to a release on sheik n beik. their things change ep slots neatly into the catalogue with its blend of spooky melodies and analogue drum work. diana (how youve changed) kicks things off with an infectious vocal loop and juddering drum patterns. brooklyn’s max pask then follows up with his take on diana which sets 909 drums over a thick, burning acid line. endless toil then follows up with a tightly wound groove built with metallic whacks and frazzled, flexing synth tones. forget the past then brings the package to a thumping close as manic synth lines dart between crunching drums in another strong addition to sheik n beiks catalogue.
