the new ep from memoria comes from fast-rising romanian producer vid whose previous outings have come on labels including fear of flying and barraca music. vid (vidum) aka sorin rastoaca is a producer obsessed with nature and organic sounds. his latest release >rebirth<, is stripped but not light on feeling, and mines a vein somewhere between deep house and minimal techno. etime is a fluttery, eerie cut that works on many subtle layers. like the feathery minimal percussion of villalobos, the romanians sounds present like flapping butterfly wings as a kick drum punches out a varied pattern below. poem is a little louder and bolder, with a firm rolling kick drum and drunken, wubby sounds running right through its core. plenty of sonic details flesh out the languorous but slightly tribal groove. rebirth is again about little tiny details and how they evolve with time, but the framework they inhabit this time is deep, late-night house with gentle tinkles on keys coming over like a fluttering candle in the dark. 3729 gets its head down and mines a shifty, itching and tight minimal groove, closing out an ep which shows vid to be a master of working minimum sounds into maximum effects.

originally recorded for chris blackwell of island records the rights of ‘life of contradiction’ were then given to joe higgs who released the album in jamaica and the u.k. in 1975. it was immediately obvious that this was a unique collection coming from a completely different direction to the other reggae releases of the period. although joe had first recorded some of the songs in the early sixties for studio one it was as if he was at last able to realise a vision of his own music that had previously been denied to him: either by financial constraints or from not having the right situation with the right musicians.

with their feet firmly positioned on dutch soil, the heads and hearts of dam swindle are nonetheless rooted deep into the soul of the motor city, and this ep of finely crafted grooves on jimmy posters and huxleys fledgling saints & sonnets imprint is as brilliant a reflection of their obsession as you could expect. >the wrap around< combines a killer vocal hook with a silky line, but its the bassline that marks it out, coming in with a thudding bassline that twists itself into all manner of unfiltered goodness at the halfway point. >pain tomorrow< meanwhile prefers to let its skipping percussion do the talking with a bumping chord led groove that would put mcde to shame. the ep is rounded off with a killer remix of the title track from deleusions of grandeurs pattern select, turning in a sparse reworking which transforms the light original into a throbbing piece of basement house.

shawn osullivan of up and coming new york new wave bands led er est and further reductions, brings us the latest release on wt. the easiest description would be drop bass network meets berghain dub techno meets the new sound of amsterdam with a little bit of acid and industrial sprinkled in, but you should listen to the clips yourself to decide. shawn takes synths, drummachines, a sequencer and some effects and records one take on a stereo track. this leaves room for wild mistakes, personal moments, and blown out sound. its a classic techno sound that sounds like it should have been done before, but hasnt.

after a long time we are about to release on vinyl again. the duet kanzler & wischnewski are coming with two new tracks that are forcing to join the party and to dance crazy through the latino-mexican guitar and vocal elements. who doesn t want to feel a little bit like mr. banderas on the dancefloor and to let yourself go with the flow of the beats? with the track la bruja (the witch) the duo provides a special aura with slightly mystic vocals and a driving sound. in order to have a full package, lizzara & tatsch and stereo jack contributed their remixes, each with an own style this rounds up this great release!

although it has found emotional music from france, russia and south africa over the years, for this release it returns to the birthplace of deep house, chicago, to focus on up and coming producer matthew wieck. opening the ep with the wiry tones and lush pads of >flying feeling< whichs take you up into the stratosphere with its floaty vibe, its complimented by >hydroacoustics<, which utilises an aquatic arpeggio lead and warm, oozing pad underneath, held together with crips, charged percussive work. on the flipside >worlds beyond< demonstrates wiecks darker side, with an acid bassline riffing against cavernous piano in what sounds like a more introverted take on larry heard. altered moods boss malcolm moore finishes off the ep with >cleared direct<, an 808 jam held together with foggy chords and disembodied radio transmissions - the perfect compliment to wiecks fine material.

after his great set of singles for philpot and clone royal oak last year,arttu comes with his first single for 4lux.yet again arttu brings you the sleaziness he is known for.attic house is a filthy club banger with heavy bassline and cut up vocal bits.gerd re-arranges the track and adds more drama to the strings coming in halfway throughout the track. soul stream is a deeper detroit-ish nugget with nostalgic feel.yet again arttu’s trademark of slamming beats & bass combined with cut-up vocals snippets profide for an insane jackin track.last but not least snuff crew comes with a heavy re-work on attic house that reminds of old dance mania and dbx sound.

after conforces tight album release on delsin and other concept projects he did he/we went wild with this one and selected some tracks we just want to play out loud in a club from vinyl (incl. a killer remix by gesloten cirkel for the title track). at first sight these tracks dont have much in common... and probably still not for the second listen, but we didnt really bother for this one. it will be a standard in our dj box for the coming months with 4 tracks that all have a bit of a different groove and a different mood. grain, be there at night, 24 and 24 remixed by gesloten cirkel. this is probably as versatile as a clone basement release can get.
