the elusive producer nortasun hasn’t released a record since his debut one through saft back in 2016. after two years, it’s time for a follow up which is fittingly named “two”. the track titles also resume in a fashionable manner with the opening track being titled: “untitled 3”. on this track, nortasun introduces a firm rhythm that is supported by the impossibly beautiful strings that serve as the tracks key element and appear throughout. next up is the antonzap remix. antonzap doesn’t do the stereotypical remix take on the original. his version is dub laden, otherworldly, and only implements miniscule pieces from the original take. with just under 7 minutes, the remix version is a true sonic voyage.
on the b-side, nortasun takes a more dubbed out approach to modern day house music. “untitled 4” is a work of precision. the carefully crafted hats and dub elements sizzle throughout the entire track and help the track morph into a stunning piece of dance floor music around the four minute mark. nortasun cleverly introduces a thumping bass that changes up the mood for the entire work.

mantra makes an entry to finnish proform series with his raw and uncompromised four track acid ep called “the abyss”. after releases on bunker records, polybius trax, solar one music and abstract acid under the mantra alias craig stainton delivers four tracks of jackin pure acid techno madness in the veins of true underground. starting with “next culture” is a good introduction to pumping beats and a moaning 303 while “beat methods” takes a rougher and tougher angle to acid. just imagine yourself in a warehouse party in the morning jammin to some acid. on the b-side “the abyss” leads us to the deep end of the 303 or even to the bottom of the acid sea. “singularity” ends this package with great 303 lines definitely burning up the house! a limited and numbered edition of 200, after that it’s gone, no represses, no digital, so you know what to do!

this is a reissue of a short-lived and obscure uk dance music label. a compilation of tracks featured on releases across 3 ep’s between 1991 and 1993 incorporating recently emergent dub techno and progressive acid house sounds. nation of noise was conceived in the early 90 s, following a meeting of minds between the producer and ambient soho mainstay django, and vocalist jon martin (of pizzaman fame) at the legendary soho institution: the brain. plate 1 is a fully remastered reissue of the first nation of noise record - xes noiz, featuring 4 locked grooves. plate 2 takes two tracks off both the lockgroove and super bubble ep s. one side is smooth, after-hours deep house whilst the other reaches for two progressive, acid cuts. fully remastered.

neil landstrumm began producing in the early 90s after moving to edinburgh from inverness. initially producing within a variety of groups often with christian vogel, he began his solo production in 1993 influenced by the sheffield school of bleep as well as electro and miami bass. landstrumm s unique sound soon caught the ears of a wide variety of some of the worlds finest electronic labels and he went onto record for tresor and planet mu as well as his string of ep s and album for peacefrog. his playful sense of humor and penchant toward unpredictable song structures and bizarre sounds have continued to offer humour in a world often dominated by serious minimalism. threesome features landstrumm s three peacefrog ep s originally released between early 1995 and 1996. highlights include the minimalist chicago jack track takks, dancefloor destroyers such as swing / jerk and blam the target, along with the off kilter raw stomping funk of sniff and destroy. to this day landstrumm remains one of the true innovators in uk techno.

aos’ boundless love for music is apparent in everything she does. as a producer, a dj, and an event organizer with seattle’s secondnature and tuf collectives, kayla waldorf’s vision eschews traditional categories and genre boxes in favor of an ecstatic spontaneity. her dj sets are well known for their playful energy and narrative threading between many different styles. violent light is aos’ first offering on secondnature’s own label, and it captures this playful essence. the title track’s stomping groove (complete with rave whistle) sets the tone, while lullaby and what/why move into headier territory composed of dusty synths stabs and clouds of vocal effects. finally, secondnature’s own fugal delivers a remix that flips what/why into a rolling depth charge.

after a few years on hiatus, one electronica has gone all out in with a heavy debut 4 tracker from new member thought camera. the young belfast born producer who has been very busy in the studio putting together an arsenal of electronic weapons has also enjoyed an increase in popularity and profile in the local scene due to his hard work and commitment to the cause. with such a strong release about to drop in the next few weeks and with more unreleased material on its way this guy is worth keeping an eye on as a rising talent. without using too many bullshit analogies – this is release is simply dancefloor bliss and a djs dream that will be keep at the front of a record box for years to come and could be a favourite among various styles. the title track astral pilot comes in strong with spatial glitchy electronic chatter and tubular echoes that are pretty damn haunting. headspace comes in on a2 which is the antithesis of serenity and meditation that the name suggests. this acidic jack track is upbeat and laden with bass bleeding all over the place. flip it over and you have lifeforms on the b1 which is the most technical track on the release which ebbs and flows between solemn and sombre leaving you emotionally twisted yet intrigued this is one to look out for! obsession which aptly depicts this track a stalker in the night, haunting, imposing, friday 13th shit. not for the faint hearted.

moon riders is a brand new duo formed by esko boogie & ivan makvel, the 7inch comes with a 80s influenced modern funk a side with the collaboration with the queen of the modern funk movement, moniquea, and an explosive gfunk/r n b b side with the voice of ivan makvel. the old school hip hop sampling tecniques of esko boogie mixed with the synthesizers performed and arranged by ivan makvel, creates the perfect mix in between hip hop, r n b, funk & soul.

pal joey (aka joseph longo) came up in the heady days of new york street culture, amidst b-boying, boom boxes and an unusually entrepreneurial spirit of beat-making. beginning with crude “pause tapes”, he was soon making tracks with drum machines and sampled vocals, all painstakingly assembled with razors and reel-to-reel. working at vinylmania, where larry levan might be found shopping for records in his pajamas, helped joey’s entrance into the city’s nascent house music scene, and he was soon working with everyone from krs-one to sade to the orb, whose “little fluffy clouds” he tweaked for stateside tastes.
true to his city’s inclusive spirit, pal joey consistently blurs the lines between disco, house and hip-hop, dropping scraps of old soul and recent rap alike over his skipping drum patterns and head-nodding keyboard lines. joey’s records (under his principal moniker and also aliases like earth people and soho) have appeared on jive, epic, talkin loud, wave and coco machete. he also has run three labels of his own - loop d’ loop, cabaret and footstompin records.

brassfoot makes his dba debut following a number of appearances at the dba presents parties. since breaking through with his apron ep on funkinevens world-leading label in 2015, brassfoot has turned heads with releases on uttu, paul du lac s bio rhythm, and his own seminal nca recordings. on the indentured servitude ep brassfoot showcases his own unique stepping house and techno flavour across six tracks, with time to meditate and reflect between the party-starting peak timers also included. blinds down, crouched over my desk, i switch on my machines. whatever the final result is, i wouldn t even bother unless i was having fun first. sometimes theres just one tiny portion of magic after a long recording session, but its always about the enjoyment first. its dark inside and it influences the mood of the music. it s also dark outside and it s obvious where that leaves its mark. herbert bodzins revival ii is the next exciting vinyl highlight on this young label. it features completely unreleased electronic music which was recorded between 1979 and 1982. check!

touch of loft wax 002 see’s label head nathaniel garry step out on the a-side with a club ready deep house dj tool. jacking percussion lays a solid groove as electric piano chords and deep pads set the mood, topped off with chopped up vocal samples to get the crowd pumping. london’s timothy clerkin serves up an ebm rave for his remix on the b-side, with a thumping kick drum and arpeggiator bassline sitting under twisted and warped vocals from the original. grab it. pop it in your dj bag. with the a-side for the warm up and the b-side for the peak time slot.

in the first release of rome based nvda, cosimo damiano brings 4 tracks together between jungle, techno and ambient. the audiovisual work traces the mythological imagery recalled by the etymology of its name (diana nemorense the pre-roman goddess of hunting), and its mood, which at times takes a dramatic turn, with the individual tracks transmitting a dark and nostalgic sensitivity.

heading from his own true rotary recordings (co-run with ena cosovic), be as one and recently showing appearance twice on bror records sub-label lilies - joel alter presents a diverse three track ep on bror records with “bror07” under his techno alias jor-el.

det ar grymt i norr is a compilation of exclusive tracks by artists reflecting the contemporary swedish underground electronic music scene: alvar, celldod, dissocio modus trans, hjarnkultur, agent side grinder, kinder aus asbest, aemit and yabibo hazurfa (special scandinavian letters not included). the title of the compilation, swedish for it s grim up north describes the atmosphere perfectly - in swedish, grymt also means cool. the gloomy cover was designed by erik soderberg. subtitled swedish synthetic darkness, the music on the album is intense, hard and cold at first listen but boiling with emotions underneath the surface. expect industrial, ebm, coldwave, acid and everything on the spectrum between electro and ambient. thank you for the music.

another master of the soundtrack is francesco de masi, that, through a long carrier, has moved between different genres, giving the soundtrack to spaghetti western movies (like vado l’ammazzo e torno) comedies, and action movies like la macchina della violenza (the big game), by robert day. a soundtrack that goes from tense and nervous songs, to soft ballads with female voice.

easily comparable to the vaste number of movies from the erotic-dramatic genre popular between sixties and seventies, alessandro fallay’s le altre - a pretty much unknown director of iranian origins - boasts an amazing soundtrack from the unforgettable piero piccioni, one of the acclaimed masters of the genre. the album moves between easy listening atmospheres to jazz and lounge, among roma and cinecittà’s summers parfumes. everything topped off with woods, hammond and guitars.

lithuanian based label sodai started its journey in 2016, making it a label still in it’s infancy but making a big impression. owned by artist gardens of god, who started the label to create his own ‘no limits’ plat-form for his experimental sounds and projects. while at the same time a platform to give other artists the chance to also have freedom with art and music. with releases from raxon, few nolder and third son under their belt, the label shows no sign of slowing down, next in line is italian producer alex schaufel (suara, diynamic) who is welcomed to the label with a his heavy hitting four track ep entitled ‘roots’.

the poverty is violence stable are firmly established now as an essential conductor for rabid, rowdy and downright rasping mechanics from subterranean operators of all shapes and sizes. anonymous but reportedly veteran dutch producer xxx previously appeared on the label in 2016 with the wild noorder scannen 12-, and now returns with a bludgeoning new release. there s a consistent metal grind to the percussion on westzaan doelen, while the synth tones in between tend towards the jagged and abrasive, there s space and poise in the arrangement to lift this out of knuckleheaded noise. -don t go after her- reverberates with clamouring intensity while the beefy chassis of -just the two of you- shimmers under an acidic glaze - this is full-tilt deviant music executed with finesse to match the grime.

aar is a project by milan-based producer, dj and designer giorgio di salvo. the first grade lp is his first record under this name, self-released in collaboration with haunter records, the first chapter in a new series dedicated to tonal and rhythmic experimentation. advanced audio research is the ironic definition of this new music course of his, a nod to the large amount of esoteric studio gear accumulated and (ab)used during the years. the project itself is the result of years of study and experimentation with generative music matrices, based on the application of a three dimensional array of variables and unknowns to algorithmic pattern creation. the result is punishing, close to the most radical exploits in ear-wrenching breakcore, footwork and jungle, albeit with a sonic and structural finesse that reveals the producer’s manic dedication. track a-4 is produced in collaboration with somec and b-01 in collaboration with heith, channeling abstract and melancholic vibes into the project. vinyl comes in ultra ltd. edition of 100 copies, each one wrapped in a different hand-printed folder.

victor simonelli opens up the vaults once more to unlock groove committee s dirty games , the follow up to the seminal i want you to know . taking the blueprint from his timeless house classic, simonelli reworked the bassline for this 92 follow up whilst holding onto that sublimely simple yet powerful chord progression, one that never fails to put a smile on the face. add in a helping of swung hats and crunched up shakers and this is a classic by anyone s standards. the vocals - a charged up, evocative warning to a mistreating lover - fit the nyc garage house rhythm so perfectly and deliver a raw emotion to the track. next up the dubb mix kicks off with the accapella vocals laid bare in all their glory, before that piano progression lays the path for the full force of dirty games to make its impact. there s more space between the vocals in this dub mix, allowing simonelli s production prowess room to breathe. a surefire spine tingler from start to finish. on the b side, simonelli offers up his 1993 re-edit, extending, elongating and beefing up certain elements to captivate audiences all over again. closing out the e.p. is groove committee s 93 track i wana hold you produced in collaboration with glenn sweety g toby - it follows that same garage house shuffling rhythm, with soul-laden organs and paula brion s killer vocals. another much welcomed reissue of some of victor simonelli s most sought after tracks, remastered by the man himself for a new generation of listeners.

br welcomes a special release for its 4th episode. this time it s a team work, showing a large scale of the label s tastes with strongly different tracks between breaky house-techno, downtempo and idm.

as far as i know is the new project by electronic music veteran eduardo de la calle. under this new moniker, eduardo is exploring the roots of detroit electro whilst sticking to his signature sound of trippy melodies and rhythms, which we were able to experience through so many quality releases over the last decades. this first ep by as far as i know, which also includes a collaboration with nathan surreal on b2 (fact speak itself), takes us on a trip back to the future and deep into the realm of sci-fi related electro, idm, and techno. pressed on 180g hand-stamped quality wax.
