the next installment on aus music sees the return of a relatively new addition to the roster rob glassett aka fold. throughout previous 12inches on manmakemusic and electric minds and on his outstanding netflix & chill debut for aus last year - fold has laced together dusty house grooves built with a classic approach to sampling funk, disco and soul records. next up - his lennys jam ep starts up with a dub techno groove built with delayed and panned stabs and sharp, pacy drums. rosie lea lays out a rich and sunny groove as a playful sample filters into focus over deftly treated drum kit samples and a buoyant bass line. tracksuits and tennis shoes then follows up with a no-nonsene party jam a short funk link is set over a booming kick that closes up a nicely varied package.

this is the relaunch limited edition album (475 copies only, remastered from the original master tapes) of the male productions label. it contains theaoriginal songs of the true underground sound of rome from the rare and sought after ep released in 1991 on male records plus two unreleased tracks recorded in 1991. in italy during early 90 s after the disco era was time for the new born underground music movement. male productions represents the first italian electronic-house independent label, based in rome and managed by chicco furlotti, former club-dj and organizer of the early italian rave parties. this album features stefano di carlo and other big names from the italian electronic and house music scene like leo young and mauro tannino. we cant call this music as deep-house, ambient or techno because it s the true undergound sound of rome!

while being a rare patrick adams and billy nichols production, mary clark’s “take me i’m yours” has in recent years become one of the most celebrated disco tracks by contemporary deejays. this borderline gospel-disco gem has all the elements of a timeless disco cut, a driving bass line, powefully arranged strings and horns, but most importantly, a very soulful performance by mary clark. like many of peter brown’s “affliate” labels, little is known about them or the artists recorded. originaly released in 1980 on ‘la shawn’, it is rumored to have been no more than 200 records originally pressed, making this one of the most sought 12 inches among collectors.

embracing disco, techno and house music in all its declinations, what ever not introduces now british artist reformed society, project started by house producer harsh puri as a consequence of djing and collecting records since 1998, debuting with a four track old school house ep, optimistic chaos coherently fitting with the italian imprint philosophy. ‘hope’ has that solar, yet dusty groove folding distorted rhythmics and joyful pads around an insistent lead dubby pattern and shimmering synths. ‘optimistic chaos’ is again smooth but lightly gloomy, until a pause intoxicates one’s body and mind filling them with inebriating ambients. ‘incognito’ delivers a deep driving atmosphere here, featuring dogged, crisp drums together with minimalist, yet momentary cosmic motives. for the closing cut ‘detracid’, the artist cooks up a brew of acid lines with the usual charming synths and vivid hats, building a light sense of tension fired up by the warm, heady sound scapes. each track is similar to the last, stiffening the musical timbre of the label, confirming the producer’s strong artistic identity as a consequence.

the last couple of years have been huge for pomo, going from a relatively obscure canadian producer to releasing his debut ep on hw&w, remixing for the likes of janet jackson and mark ronson, and touring the globe with disclosure as their hand-picked opening act.

back in soviet times when the official local music market was controlled by the biggest record monopoly in history melodiya, many local musicians who wanted to express themselves in actual form, released tapes themselves and spread it through a big underground market network called magnitizdat (short of magnetic tape release). it began in the 60s with soviet rock movement and illegal copies of foreign music which got through border with tourists, seamen and diplomats. in the late 80s you could find there many different shades of music from underground protest rock, post punk, avant-garde to a lot of electronic pop, local kind of italo disco and dj s mixtapes with a personal rap on top of it. plus seven records begins a sublable series of remastered edits which narrate about dance part of this story.

on november 13th, pnn records will release the debut album of its most enigmatic artist myr. diamondbacks make wonderful pets is more than just a strange name, it nine tracks represent an exciting evolution in myr.s trajectory as an artist. following his debut ep nobody knows avalon myr. seems to have dug deep and discovered another level to his sound. each of the tracks on the record are confidently offbeat and precisely composed.a little-bitty bowl (with b.hotton), mixes thunder sound-effects with glitchy synth bleeps, layering them above darker tones which build to a perfect storm in the middle. this 10 minute track fails to get boring and is representative of the album as a whole. myr.s ability to carry off strange hybrids is what makes his music unique. from the ghostly warbles of i think i hear them coming to the sunnier sounds of eleanor, myr.s disregard for the norm has lead to an exceptional record that surprises at every turn.

atlus is a young man with the world on his shoulders. he holds it from misty glasgow, where he spends most of his time in the halls of rubadub. in the three songs on this epic ep, he lifts up party-melting disco house, clanging ambience and bubbling techno – and not for a second does he hint at letting the ball drop. the first of many, many records from him, we hope. this kid’s a titan.

candido cameron was a cuban percussion maestro who had played with luminaries such as dizzy gillespie, buddy rich and count basie throughout his illustrious musical career which started in 1952. fast forward to 1979 and candido finds himself caught up in the disco boom that had engulfed his adopted new york city. feeling he could add his trademark quick-fire conga and bongo playing to disco s straight 4x4 syncopated rhythm he cut some records with legendary nyc label salsoul. the fruits of this partnership were 2 full length lp s and a handful of 12inch singles that changed the face of underground disco.

aus follow up some landmark records from the likes of bicep, shenoda, youandewan and new addition fold with the return of a label-favourite - the esteemed man of the moment marquis hawkes who offers up his first full length ep on aus in the form of chances. in the wake of his recent outing on houndstooth as well record on dixon avenue basement jams and clone jack for daze, the london born berlin based producer does what he does best for his aus debut and lines up three rapturous jams packed with disco loops and tough analogue drum work all suffused a signature degree of grit.

ok, we are quite slow on releasing records, but here is our next release on film. we stumbled upon the artist on a reseach for a music video - in the end we didn t discover a video director, but denial.of.service, an artist in many fields including music, video and performance art. as he ist active since the early eighties, he was involved in numerous projects, doing productions, remixes and videos for and with artists like david bowie, attrition extrawelt and daf. if you take a closer look on his artistic activity since the early 80ies ever then you will quickly realize there is a whole universe to uncover foald from around this artist. our suggestion: start with this fine ep, featuring a hidden secret artwork that unveils in the dark.

karousel is the new alias from irish producer gavin herlihy. forged in the fires of house and determined by a steely dedication to timeless deep dancefloor theory, the alias begins life on one of the uk s most trusted vinyl labels, illusion recordings. gavin started learning to produce in 2005 and less than a year in scored one of the tracks of the year in 2006 with machine a homework, a techno opus hailed by laurent garnier and dj hell as one of the tracks of the year. over the next few years a move to berlin lead to gigs at clubs like panorama bar, fabric and later circo loco while his productions took root in a variety of different genres and big labels. karousel is the expression of gavins house leanings rooted in the sampling of dusty old jazz and disco records and the use of hardware.

with the two fellows enrico sangiuliano & frankyeffe from italy gregor tresher again proves his talent to discover great new artists for his label break new soil. enrico s releases on drumcode and secret cinema s gem records and franky s tracks for flash and trapez were already high quality documentations of their exceptional studio skills but combining forces pushed their output to another level. peaktime techno at its best.

uk techno stalwart ben sims adopts his ron bacardi alias for an outing on bass culture records, bringing with him three varying slices of 4x4-based music. d’julz has a deep penchant for bass and funk, and this is evident throughout the ep. we get off to a rugged start with ‘rock your body’, a deliciously dark slice of grumbling techno. intertwined with the morose bassline is a mysterious, tribal-esque female vocal, warped and twisted to add a primal feel to the track. on the flip, bacardi puts his a different hat on giving us ‘first effort’ a vivacious funk-laced hybrid, which teases you spitting out intermittent trumpets and other such live instruments. finally, ‘the money/dub’ goes straight into disco territory with that oh-so-familiar entrancing rhythm that will keep you fixed to its beat from start to finish. that filtered wah-wah guitar is impossible to resist, especially when combined with such crisp percussion. sheer quality from monsieur bacardi…

craig peyton was a mainstay in nyc jazz and dance music beginning in the 70s. from playing on dan hartmans -vertigo/relight my fire- to his work on boogie funk productions with daryl payne, he is one of the unsung heroes of the era where disco transitioned into house music. his drum machine and synth based cover of william devaughans -just be thankful- came out on profile records in 1983, a daring move for a white man trained on the vibes. he gives the jam a haunting and funky rework that has only escalated in popularity over the years. it has been bootlegged extensively while original copies remain quite elusive.

after a huge success with the first release by dj aaekmael, we signed another crazy good release. the man who is everywhere at the moment luvless. with releases on tsuba, sleazy beats, rose records, razer n tape, diggin disco deep and much more, this guy can t be stopped. sometimes slow mo deep house, with a fantastic vocal, and a piano that will make your heart melt. on the flip side, we asked the productive desos to make a remix, and he did that very well, he added a little more basement vibe to it, just ready for the clubs. vinyl only release.

nice price deal !!! coruscating cut-ups yanked still dripping and yowling from the belly of the beast. dazzling and invigorating, scary and discombobulating. ‘psychic driving was a psychiatric procedure in which patients were subjected to a continuously repeated audio message on a looped tape, in order to alter their behaviour… often hundreds of thousands of repetitions of a single statement over the course of their treatment. they were also concurrently administered muscular paralytic drugs such as curare… the psychic driving procedure was a chronological precursor to cameron’s depatterning, involving massive doses of ect combined with similarly large doses of psychedelic drugs like lsd. the intent was to break down the subject’s personality — theoretically psychic driving could then be used with some efficacy in establishing a new personality’ (hanson records).

conor (no way back, sf, ca) conors an extremely influential, yet somewhat mysterious figure in sfs disco and house underground. its known that he has an enviable collection of disco on wax, that hes not afraid to use it, yet no one seems to know if he sleeps, or where his bed is, or if perhaps he just lies down among record crates with one eye open, scanning his vinyl collection…. in any case, the guy knows what hes doing. along with sfs solar, hes booked, hosted, and played alongside a long list of the worlds best underground electronic, house, and disco artists at his party series no way back, and his taste and talent for curating artists, and selecting records, is widely acknowledged to be some of the best around

the a&r edits return with a double-header from hot digits head honcho fingerman. the brighton producer grew up listening to his parents enviable steely dan record collection and for his comeback outing on a&r has retouched the de la soul-sampled classic, peg. a tight circle of djs have road tested this rework over recent times and we ve been inundated with requests for its release. in 1970, new york session drummer bill curtis merged the fatback jazz beat of new orleans into a street funk band and signed his outfit to perception records. over the next decade, they incorporated jazz and disco into their signature funk style, before moving in an r&b direction in the 80s. during this period, american pop success proved elusive, but the group made regular appearances in the uk singles chart, hitting the top twenty three times with (are you ready) do the bus stop , (do the) spanish hustle and i found lovin it s the latter, an anthem on the uk black music scene in 1984, that has been served up here by fingerman, a staple at his casablanca jazz club residency in brighton and now available on wax for the first time.

scott marshall is a london-based dj and producer. his debut 4-track ep, titled scott marshall demonstrates a distinctive uk booty sound. early supporters include dj deeon, john heckle, mark forshaw and jamie russell. born and raised in south london through the 80s, scott started buying records when he was 16 amassing a large collection of house, techno, disco and funk.
