roughly translated, hasta el fin means >the very last number of the night<, appropriate when you consider this is gigolos final release of 2009. the a&r process at gigolo is a constant and very simple formula! if hell likes it, plays it and gets a good reaction from the crowd then it needs to come out on his record label! no other record fits the criteria more the >hasta el fin<. this is a record that featured heavily in hells festivals and club sets and was played at the end of every after-hour he found himself. but its beginning is a little less finite.
the genesis came late last year when oliver ton invited various musicians for a jamming session. in the spirit of some masterful moments in music oliver ton and production partner ronald christoph captured something unique sounding with a dance record built largely around a vocal, guitar and piano performance. it was immediately signed to berlin based white records and assigned the fitting cat. no. of white999!!!
hell, an early supporter of both the record and label was smitten, personally requesting the license for gigolo. once this was granted he approached tony lionni for a remix. for many djs, including hell, tony lionnis >found a place< is without doubt one of the biggest records of 2009. so combining the talents of these two artists would appear to be a no brainer, and the results speak volumes. taking the vocal hook, layering it over a tough piano stab and italo style disco rhythm is the order of the day. as we approach the end of another decade for gigolo and the first of new millennium we are proud to present our last number of the 2009!

peter kruder returns to the gigolo mega-church to present two new tracks from his recent arsenal of techno and house dance-floor bombs. needless to say 2009 has been a good year for gigolo and hell with the high times being shared by peter kruder. beginning back in march when we released peter kruders first 12 inch in 7 years as part of the cd eleven release. followed swiftly by the release of dj hells acclaimed >teufelswerk< album, recorded and produced largely in peter kruders vienna based studio. so as we approach the end of 2009 it gives us great pleasure to announce the latest ep >hard to find<.
on the a-side you find the title track, which takes in influences from detroit techno circa the age of ur to north african hooks. the filter sweep towards the end, which serves as the drop/break, is a master-class in restrained modulation that is bound to ignite any dance floor. on the b-side we find >25 west 38th st.< a slightly more reserved affair opening with the sound of the ocean air, then swiftly diving into a bass driven groove, which features lush strings and a piano-led top line creating a track that is as atmospheric as it is rhythmic. the ep itself takes influence from the b-side on two levels, the most immediate being the title of the track, which is the address of the old nu groove records offices. this is peter kruders homage to a time when dance music served as a momentary escape, an opportunity to make those around happy. it also brings peters relationship with gigolo records full circle, having begun in 2004 with his >nu groove< remix of hells >listen to the hiss<.
resident advisor recently alluded to the idea that peter kruders finest solo work is coming exclusively through gigolo records. it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility as this latest record goes a long way to proving. with such a statement in mind we invite you to listen to the latest release from peter kruder.

belgian producers sierra sam & marcus vector return to their house-oriented project d.i.y. (dumb irresponsible youth) for three more sly, sexy groovers, with contributions from dop, big bully and markus fix.
while sam and marcus are generally known for their more techno-focused productions, last years house tools vol. 1 was a minor hit, with tracks included in ellen alliens resident advisor podcast, jay hazes recent fabric47 mix cd, and m.a.n.d.y.s charts. since then, they ve kept busy with their own toys for boys label, meanwhile sierra sam has co-produced the debut album by bloody mary on contexterrior.
still, they ve found the time to crank out these new elegant-yet-sleazy cuts, and while vol. 1 was purely instrumental, for vol. 2 they ve roped in some guest vocalists. first up is their collab with comrades dop (circus company, eklo, supplement facts). >kilimanjaro< features d.i.y.s tribal bounce combined with dops seedy, trent reznor-on-opiates vocal delivery.
the flipside has two versions of >suck my caulk<: d.i.y.s original elevates thelevel of melody and sunshine, weaving in the voice of big bully (known forhis work on spectral, get physical and vakant). markus fix of cecille offers his own interpretation, bringing the track down into deep house territory. placed in the right hands, these tools can do some serious dancefloor damage!

long-awaited second release on dani giros gophyl imprint sees him take control of the a side in fine style with a superb deep techno track that is sure to move the crowd. flip then for heavyweight spanish producers j rob & drome on the remixes delivering their own special take on the original track.

with releases on labels like ostgut, time 2 express and prologue, the finnish producer is one of the leading lights in the new wave of european techno. samuli gets straight down to business on orbiter. based on chugging, insistent drums, the listener is led to a place where repetitive droning sounds, pitched up percussion and robotic bleeps dominate. if ever there was a soundtrack lose your mind to in a dark room, then >orbiter< is it. >metal space< is more considered, but its no less effective. berlin producer mike dehnert rounds off the ep with an excellent, deeply textured take on >metal space<.

it was only a short time ago when these 2 young up and comers made their respective debuts on our label and in the few months between then and now, they have gone on to skyrocket up through the ranks, conquering dancefloors, charts and dj crates-while becoming household names synonymous with quality and consistency.
florian kruse and nils nürnberg need very little introduction these days but for those that have been asleep or living under a rock, a good start would be to check their recent output on fine labels such as nrk, om, moodmusic, dessous and our very own dieb, to name a very select few. their first combined effort on the label has resulted in the >suerte ep<, a tight collection of deep as hell, tech infused house numbers heavily characterized by their attention to groove and addictive, seductive chord progressions that have become a hallmark of their production prowess.
to add some spice to an already sterling and stylized package, we have enlisted our good friend (and also mood music alumnus) alexander maier, to remix the titular >suerte< where he adds his considerable musical vocabulary to the proceedings, peppering a very tasty arrangement with piano chord stabs and throbbing basslines resulting in a gorgeous, summery house re-interpretation that has to be heard to be believed!
as if this werent enough, fresh from an impressive debut on nils and florians save room records we have been lucky enough to secure a percussion led, funk infused remix of >achieving balance< from bright new boys on the block io who round things off nicely and add another dimension to the >suerte ep<.

producing and releasing techno since 2002 it was xpansuls release on richie hawtins plus 8 imprint (in collaboration with alexi delano) that shot him onto the world techno stage. since then releases on ovum, soma and synewave have helped his stature grow even more. after a well received remix of percs >trapjaw< xpansul now drops his first full release on perc trax, comprising three pristinely produced slices of techno and tech-house covering a number of bases.

supported by laurent garnier, ben watt, dj yellow, shur i kan, nils nurnberg, florian meindl, mark knight, axwell!!! looking through my harddrive i just realized that this track is more than 2 years old ... shame on us!!! a few people were lucky enough to got it sent back then and the feedback was already exciting! the original version is a pure deephouse anthem drenched with pure soul! starting off with a moody and dark filtered string it leads into a pumpin deephouse groove ready to climax into a beautiful rhodes chord progression and that lovely m.u.s.i.c. vocal. its a perfect blend between deephouse and soul - pretty rare these days and set to become a future classic!! fred everythings mix is slightly more on the disco tip, tight drums and arrangement and a perfect addition to this package. finally we have another colab between the 2 label heads - called electric girl. its a sweet little disco midtempo groover with the typical trademarks of those 2 guys! enjoy this beautiful release - many people have been asking for this for quite a while!!

third release on the idjut boys offshoot label droid ! this sporadic, though eminently collectible and club friendly imprint exists as an outlet for the boys more electronic releases, something for a little later in the evening (or morning !), a selection of tracks which apply the duos patented dub ethic to the late night world of hypnotic dancefloor secret weapons. another deadly duo of cuts then, taking basic raw drum track elements and twisting them into fx laden new shapes for working into the mix, or serving straight up !

it s good to see there are some folk still out there making proper electro. fans of classic drexciya will love the uhu tracks, if you have heard his earlier releases on gigolo then you will know just how good this guy us.
on the flip is juan pablo whose cinematic style of electro sounds like john carpenter mixed with early viewlexx and nature releases. this gets a big thumbs up from us so don t sleep on it.

london based masters of the groove berkson & what are back on pokerflat with another sublime excursion into deep flowing hypnotic and modern house music. the pairs infamous live show has taken them far and wide, delivering their detailed and unparalleled electronics from berlin to miami and back... now their story continues with the >ghosts ep<. the extended, jacking trip that is >ghosts< is a strong grooving reduced house track in the purest sense of the phrase. tough, tight chicago style beats flare and snap as a melancholic and mysterious synth motif dances around the funk-meets-dub bass sequence. all manner of ethereal spoken word passages, uplifting vocal meanderings and cuts are then intertwined in a complex ambiguous narrative that fills the room with the ghosts of house and soul music gone by... understated, uncompromising and super functional! next up the boys lay down a tribal house groover, full of thick keys, richly embellished drums and spiritual vibes a-plenty. no doubt first jammed out during one of their long studio sessions, the live feel and flowing arrangement opens up beautifully with soft key flourishes and tender vocal hooks.

straight off the heels of his highly successful bird brain album teaser tracks, aundy and beat that bird comes the definitive claude vonstroke record everyone has been waiting for. the a side is classic genius cvs at work. he constructs a mad vocal pattern up and down through 4 octaves and all the vowel sounds of the live human voice. then he creates a chord out of the notes all coming together for en even bigger surprise in the 2nd half. this track is quite simply unique. there is nothing else like it. the b-side resembles the freaky side of cvs harking back to the tech funk sound of tracks like chimps. this time claude makes an ultra-wide filter sweep sound like a pair of humongous tits bouncing up and down on a trampoline. the boob jokes are there but the track is so filthy dirty its hard to even find time to chuckle.

heavyweight vinyl. in this light and on this evening, the new album from editors, represents a significant step forward for the band following the huge successes of debut album the back room and the number 1 follow up an end has a start. there have been many changes to life in editors since an end has a start broke the band worldwide and established the then birmingham based four piece as one of the uks most prominent bands of recent times. bassist russell leech and guitarist chris urbanowicz are now resident in new york while singer tom smith has become a father. these changes added to the sense that in this light and on this evening is the start of a new chapter for editors and the band came together in london for the recording sessions with producer flood at the start of 2009 with a determination to push their sound into wholly new territory.

spectrum recordings returns after the summer months with a fantastic deep dark two tracker to take us into those shorter nights of the year from italian duo ascion & davide carbone. the a side >shaved< is a stripped down dubby groover, with eerie vocal stabs and spacey edits. this has a seriously tripped out vibe, which is perfect for the after hours, but still with more then enough punch to work at peak time, with some layered percussion or effects. the flip side >spectral town< is a minimal funky track, superbly produced and once again perfect for the after hours. a very cool and classy record from a label stamping its mark on the scene, and still only in its first year of releasing music. look out for future releases from ramon tapia, gui boratto and alan fitzpatrick. big things to come!

>elixir< is a driving monster with one of the catchiest and most addictive hooks of the year, instantly recognisable and is sure to be the highlight of many sets as it has been for fergie over the summer. on remix duties is mr henry von, who runs excentric sub-label rekluse with fergie. his >tribal rage< remix utilises the original hook, adds an interesting array of percussion, then takes the listener on a mind-melting journey full of twists and turns. gary beck (still on a roll after his massive >consumed< on minus) also takes hold of the remix reigns and delivers a deep and hypnotic workout that has already been included on christian smiths forthcoming renaissance compilation he liked it so much.

the model is no stranger to gigolo, and we (the royal we) are no strangers to the model. as a supporter of gigolo records, you, our fated reader, should be familiar with our protagonist previous gigolo adventure. but in the words of the late george harrison, >all things must pass< and with this in mind we would like to reintroduce...
the model doesnt just have his own sound, he has in fact attempted to engineer his own genre: dark-techno-baroque. the sound has been crafted through a penchant for aristocratic mannerisms and a passion for high fashion and low fetish. it also happens to pretty succinctly sum up part of his unique personality. set against a backdrop of refined charm, there s an underbelly of something dark and brutal, which is possibly the best way to describe the a-side >in the night<. in many ways this could be seen as a return to form for gigolo, immediately poppy but structured as a classic song with haunting vocals underpinned with a driving techno rhythm. to further consolidate the techno aesthetic look no further then >flex on the b-side and you have a pounding track that could have been played by daft punk in 96 and will probably find a home with a diverse selection of djs today.
the >vampire funk ep< is the first release from the models forthcoming album on gigolo. the concept is in the same vain, but delves deeper into the dark-side of the model. exploring his fetish with the night and creatures that occupy its opulent corridors. like classic transylvanian tales the music from this album will present details that set the mood and composition to create tracks with narrative regardless of lyrics or words. the result being music that moves both bodies and minds and stirs the blood. as pretentious as this sounds the author of this mindless scrap of paper has the fortunate privilege of speaking from experience. as the mind that moves the hands that moves the keyboard is the mind that is being moved by the music as i type and you read. so we are already part way there. the rest will unfold in the coming months.

first up on the a side is do one a shakey, stompy belter that winds up into the first drop of gargantuan bassweight with the sound of a racing motorcycle having its heels nipped by a dyson hoover fuelled on uranium. it then continues to pile on the pressure pound after pound in a frenzy of sidewinding synths and sliding pentatonic scales.

5th release on the subcult techno label and it just gets better & better! label boss aka carl teams up with peppelino for the excellent opening salvo. then bryant baker teams up with miche of miche & mirzinho fame to deliver another club techno bomb. flip over for spanish rising star luky rdu on a wicked tribal trip and finish with kazoo records josh love & matt 303 rounding things off perfectly.

the third instalment of the apres vinyl series explores the indie disco dimensions of future classics 2 year old sunday afternoon session in sydney. when we commissioned gemma smith to produce four artworks for the series this angular and intense piece sat well with the spiky hot chip meets junior boys disco punk funk of melbourne 3 piece clubfeet. it also worked with adelaides sidwho, another promising newcomer whos recent 12inch on cage & aviarys the walls have ears imprint got rave reviews from horse meat disco, mock & toof, tim sweeney and optimo to name a few. millionaire is an early taster of the pop sensibilities of sids forthcoming solo album with future classic. sids also a member of the modular signed live disco act the swiss. chad and nathan took some time out from the future classic hq to turn in a remix of millionaire together with good friend bryan o callaghan who also happens to be head chef at the tilbury where aprÞs is held. bryan quickly became a firm friend of future classic after mudd and aeroplane were booked for sets at apres with bryan seeking us out, immediately impressing us with his unparalleled knowledge of rare disco and groove. last but definitely not least (since it made the a1) came pink frosts remix of evening star by another local sydney band todd sparrow. after a heavy vinyl digging session at redeye records,the stores vinyl buyer scott, handed nathan a cdr and the call was made then and there and we had our third apres release - an intentionally all australian installment!

let me do yore starts off in tribal mode and then adds triangle and shakers to its relaxed percussive groove before shuttling off into the stratosphere where sheets of synthetic slivers dart past at lightning speed, the tracks bottom heavy pulse builds in intensity as claps and soulful voice swirls bring a delirious vibe to the proceedings. following a detroit tinged intro, a moment of truth slides into place with congas and claps helping it find its way. sizzling hi hats and a thumping kick drum deepen the groove while a funky bass line provides hip shaking accompaniment and marks the return of a house legend, who’s still at his best. soul never goes out of style, right?!

terror danjah isnt a household name, hes not as well known as wiley or dizzee rascal, but hes considered by the grime cognoscenti to be the best grime producer ever. originally part of the nasty crew and then aftershock, terror has released countless 12inchs and remixes as well as several mixtapes.

peter grummich is a man who needs little introduction. peter has been producing grade-a techno and house for over a decade now on some of the most established electronic dance music labels in europe. peters unique production techniques draw upon a deeper sense of music. segeltuch – >the triolig deep track< is a dark and stripped down tech-house journey. chunky snares and simplistic high hats meld with ominous synth dripping with dub-styled delays. classically detroit sustained string sounds and rich analogue sweeps reflect peters loving detail oriented production at it s finest. what is most remarkable about this collection of sounds is that it gives segeltuch – >the triolig deep track< a remarkable versatility, both dancefloor energy and time.
elevation funk is no average b-side. elevation funk is a super sexy house groove that does the job right. deep and hypnotic analogue stabs slowly modulate to keep the bodies swinging on the dancefloor. odd synthetic effects and cut up noises just drip in overdriven dub-styled delays keeping the groove from getting style and providing delicious ear candy for the dancefloor. then about half way through this journey peter slowly brings back in a wet sounding hat pattern to bring this slow cooking bomb to the boiling point.

musik gewinnt freunde starts the sommer season with mgf 09, which features two young and promising producers from beautiful venice: nicola sansoni aka randomatique and kaled jabri aka kaledj, who together form cosmic cowboys. the three tracks on their dusk ep combine an airy and transcendent athmosphere with an energy that builds up chary first but then unfolds and overwhelms you. with melancholic harmonies and a whiff of dub this ep invites for (day)dreaming or loose yourself on the dancefloor. definitely a great release for deep summer nights that will catch your heart regardless of time and space. cosmic cowboys make a great extension for the mgf family and it will be worth watching out for future releases from these guys

tube10 returns to the scene again with a release to blow your minds away. this time its the greek formation ekelon. their debut on planet mu with headhunter on mary anne hobbs evangeline had us in our grasp so much that we couldnt help ourselves then to hit them up and see what whould happen. tube10 005 is the result of this encounter and it shows ekelon flexing their crossover sound like no other. is it techno? is it dubstep? we dont know but we sure as hell love both tunes to bits!
the a side evidence - a steady tune in the ekelon sets and lots of others aswell. feel this tune filling up the speakers and rumbling up those subs we thought where lost.. a perfect blend between all that is experimental while keeping it dj friendly..flip it over for freeze land.. an chilled out tundra of techno, thats how we like to call it.. frozen subs combined with defrosted stepping vibes ensures this to be a solid first release for the ekelon boys.. and dont worry this wont be their last!

in spring of 2006, jackpot began to fester in a stockholm apartment. without fresh air or natural light, the group developed its uniquely mutant strain of italo disco mixed with early 80s body music aided only by the sickly blue rays of late night tv. while the jackhammer rhythms of their music were proliferating in stockholm, jackpot dove into the deepest recesses of the electronic dance music psyche for the most primal of all rhythmic impulses - their own unmistakable sound - the sound of western culture falling apart in a blaze of shudders and hiccups. as late night sci fi reruns colored the room, jackpot also picked and chose amongst the psychotic debris of previous eras - the movies of kenneth anger, the music of suicide, velvet underground and bruce haack, the words of william s burroughs. and then they added the junkiest element of all - themselves. after two critically acclaimed records, the third chapter of the jackpot saga is about to be told. its called greased lightning (also features remix work from such talents as in flagranti and rory phillips). you hear that beat? thats them knocking on your door.

>we are electric< is the second single to be taken from the recently released >entertainment< album by fischerspooner. a soaring slice of scintillating electro with super fried guitars and anthemic lyrics that put me in mind of blade runner. possibly the standout track on an album full of super strong tunes, >we are electric< comes with 3 amazing remixes which couldnt be more different from each other. the lush radio friendly nu disco mix by kitsune favourites classixx reaveals the pop heart of the song and makes us think of the pet shop boys. next up is an absolutely storming mix by cursor miner, this is so hot its likely to burn the hair off your head if heard at full volume. its extreme treated vocals recall moments from the first fs album but the beats are pure miner madness. lastly but by no means least we have hot chip at their most club friendly, comparatively subtle compared to the previous mix, its deceptive simplicity reveals an insidious dancefloor killer when played in the right context. so there we have it then a knockout single from fischerspooner on the back of a great album that has received some fine press, a selection of which is printed below.

the new series for raw no-nonsens techno and house tracks. some straight up techno... some edgy, exciting and fresh, sometimes just plain functional dj tools. first one is mike dehnert with his solid umlaut track that was overlooked by many when it was released on his own fachwerk imprint. mike is one of the big talents with his own trademark sound.. something we don t hear to often! 3 unreleased verions of umlaut2... mikes first unreleased mix, slightly housier then the first one, the umlaut2 new version which is a straigth up club tool. big surprise here is the remix by levon vincent! a new talent from new york that got his name on the map after 3 incredible releases on his own novel sounds and deconstruct labels. he did a more then excellent job with his dirty and housier version. levon did lay down a crazy groove with an old fashioned hook line (very n.y. house) and mold it into a fierce techno track. fresh and completely different then most techno out there these days.

afu limited welcomes alex long to it s artist catalogue and he starts with two slammin and cool technotracks with ultra trippy vocals! there is not much need to say anything about these tracks, just listen and enjoy the trip through the space age with a fast beating heart! since he was young, he has always been impressed by the sounds of the synths, electro pop and later on acid house. in the beginning of the 90ies, when the slovenian electronic scene was still in the making, he was a regular guest in the legendary k4 and palma in slovenia. he was taken further into the world in 1998 when he took his first steps behind the turntables and he has been producing music since 2004. since then, he has had quite a few releases and remixes for different record labels. he has dj gigs with huge names of the electronic scene and in large festivals in slovenia and became the official slovenian hero of the future in 2007 at the disconautica festival.he spends much of his time in his studio, where his thoughts are converted into notes and melodies, and as he often states, he finally found a style that suits him and always finds a challenge in. what is that style? he doesn t like to be defined by a specific music style, as he prefers and is influenced by many different genres of electronic music. alex long is definitely a name we will hear of in the future!

with this new ep tom clark makes an impressive return to the highgrade release program. following a collaboration with marcus schatz and most recently with benno blome, he now comes back as a solo artist. after only a few beats, you’ll be sure to recognise his signature sound. tom needs surprisingly few elements to build a unique atmosphere and his matchless grooves. on the title track “scorpio“ we find a deep, rolling bassline and a slightly orientally influenced vocal, combined with the typically unique clarkish synth leads, and we’re ready to go. it’s a track that continually keeps the excitement moving while never letting the cat out of the bag, and more than deserves the a-side. then we come to “albino“, also featuring sparkling synths and rolling drums that create an impression of fluidity and an unhurried beginnings, but we also end up in a waterfall… who would have known!? in conclusion comes “sand flea“, as lively as a box of fleas, but not nearly as aggrivating! mister clark is again at his best, with a love for detail, an innate sence for strange sounds and an a significant quantity of leisurely energy, this tune also really hits the mark. this is not the work of a newbie who produces an aggressive sound to prove his talents. the result is the feature of this ep: seldom has an understatement sounded so fresh. + digital-only bonus track “12 notes“!

we are very proud to announce that fluxions new 12 inch will be released on echocord + an upcoming full-lenght album later. greek artist fluxion (aka konstantinos soublis) first presented his style of dub-influenced techno through a series of 12 inches and albums on the berlin label chain reaction, starting with lark / atlos in 1998. he then released a handful of 12 inches, which ended up in the two vibrant forms releases. in 1999 he created the vibrant music label.fluxions first 12 inch release on echocord titled >inductance<, is what the title implies. it is an escalating reaction between sound and flowing particles, a dance infusion. two deep dub club tracks that with a strong movement feel, and sublime atmosphere, characteristic of his productions. >inductance<, always changing, with a strong dubby platform and elements moving and shifting on top, living the listener wanting more, despite the 8 and so minutes. a deep listening track straight for the dancefloor. >elation< is a more atmospheric track creating strong emotions, in a more suttle way. a climax of sounds and harmonics that carries the listener, to a higher emotional state. the rythmical dub base alongsibe repetitive melodic parts complete the picture of a unique listening.
