cristi cons and vlad caia are household names that really need no further introduction. their dj sets are techno stories well told and their live act is already making waves worldwide. amphia is first and foremost the platform they use to broadcast their finest works. such is the case of sideways, their latest lp, containing more than a dozen tracks coming your way trilogy style.
the first part reveals six tracks on two heavyweight discs. although most of the tracks fit the usual sit musical approach, the listener is greeted with a wide pallete of rhythms. assemble is an atmospheric dub infused with violins and orchestral echoes. permissive starts things up with a playful bass progression and continues with lush pads and cryptic voices. brooklyn’s deep moody synths and monster groove render it broken poetry at it’s best. for sure it will resemble those early danceable mornings. on a more joyful manner we are presented next with bootcamp s sturdy baseline and playful modulated vocals.
mandatory claims a whole side of the second disc and so does come around. while the first is almost experimental but danceable and warm due to the occasional driving percussions and 303 sounds the latter is the star of the show. come around is 15 minutes long and comes with a story too. a great collection of tracks, a great story that backs each one of them makes the first part of the sideways lp trilogy a treat to listen and dance to.

after releases on livity sound sister label dnuos ytivil and cold recordings, batu returns with his own new imprint timedance. the label is set to offer a platform for hybrids and mutations of uk techno, and the first release will be launched with a party in bristol on 20th february, where batu is joined at the cavern club by beneath and transient. the release showcases a progression from batu s first two 12 s, with more colour and melody than his previous work, sitting alongside waves of propulsive percussion.

evan caminitis slow but steady progression towards electronic music from sand-swept guitar drone mirrors the pace of the music he makes. it has been measured, each move well-considered and clearly intentional. caminiti has immersed himself in electronic production on meridian, creating organic sounds through his machines, patching sounds that recall the brassy resonance of horns and hazy choral clusters. synthesizers hiss and crackle under layers of reverb and fog. sounds undulate and implode in upon themselves, with bursts of noise dropping in and out to create shadows of rhythm. caminitis electronic systems do not run autonomously - the sounds heard on meridian required real-time human interaction to bring them to life, and that human touch is essential to the mysterious atmosphere he produces on this new album.

italian born producer distant memories with a four track ep via london based label, wunderkammer recordings. the ep starts with degrado (a1) that belongs to a segment of works named originally “untono” because of the minimum employment of sound elements in the composition. few and simple sonorities to describe the disapproval on the current conditions of things. compulsive (a2) is a track with a more deep feeling that proceeds untill the end around a sharp kick and spectral and obscure sounds. it is crystal clear that this tune represents a compulsive behavior. while mentale (b1) has a good speed with a deep ambience. is a mental but natural progression of sounds that evolves maintaining an incessant and hypnotic journey with a classic refrain that characterized late ’90 trance records. a never-ending cycle minimalism aesthetics of the whole ep.

mindtours and freerotation boss steevio releases his first album for 10 years on his own imprint. the album was recorded live during practice for recent gigs on steevios modular synthesizer, and is entirely improvised. animistas follows on from his modular techno series, and the recent collaboration with move d, juju and jordash, and soulphiction (as the high-on-wye quintet) on the new freerotation label, and continues his progression into deeper, jazz tinged techno territory.

the art of omission is a craft new jersey native joey anderson masters like few others. after releasing an acclaimed debut album in 2014, anderson returns to the dekmantel label serving up the signature sound we love him for. with the 1974 ep, he continues his modern day techno odyssey investigating the outskirts of the genre, while focusing on details and unexpected twists. serving up dense melodic structures, intense chord progressions and unique but relentless drum programming and sounds, anderson shows that the future of techno is bright, original and full of energy.

on a debut release for bliq, seixlack unleashes his unique fusion of intoxicating gear-crunched cuts. vasumitra is built around static drum-kicks and a pulsating bassline countered by atmospheric and murky synth progressions its repetitive and body-thumping structure rolls deep. nublando o ar rips it from the get-go, with a hyper-funked groove that manages to sustain its rugged pace and entrancing impact all the way. in the title track feitico, seixlack succeeds in artfully juxtaposing banging riddims with jazzed-out, infectious chords leading nicely to the fourth cut, re-crafted by the mighty miltiades, with a deep-rooted and slow-burner of a meditation.

tensal is the first guest artist of the ownlife imprint and opens the year 2015 with a piece of authentic techno in all its forms. four initiatic cuts that re-define the sonorous shades of this label. ritual i is a return to the rough sound of the late 90s, no concessions, pure effectivity for the beginning of the record. the a side is completed with the more hypnotic part of the ep. a deep track, dry and minimalist with the elements needed to create the mystical atmosphere which floods this reference. ritual iii is absolute energy. a constant and atmospheric progression is perfect to create an impact on the dancefloor, maintaining tension to the end. the last track opens the door of the emotional side of the artist and represents a contribution of light to ownlife. a cut of dusty textures and delay tones. a landscape of stabs with a flawless structure for smoky clubs with low light.

samuel l. session, a techno producer from sweden who founded the labels sls and cycle and now runs the klap klap imprint. apart from that, he has released on drumcode, soma, music man and kms records. in 2007, samuel l session was featured on kms 091 - kevin saunderson’s release – “history elevate 2” with a remix for “pump the move”. now in 2015, samuel l session presents his second artist release on kms records with “the talkbox ep” the talk box ep kicks of with an “original mix” that is a dark, deep & groovy. detroit inspired techno pumper that features a deep bass line with haunting chords. move on next to the “concrete mix” which provides a bit more airy feel. on the b side the soulful groove b1 “birth of blue” featuring elbee bad providing whispering melodic vocal sprinkled on top an ever moving progression that even includes some great horn stabs. rounding out the ep is the b2 “birth of blue” featuring elbee bad & andreas saag, providing a groovy solo-esc piano, riffing throughout this already groovy number

a 4-track package traversing house and techno. first up jour de fete, a reference to the black and white 1940s french comedy – perhaps a clue to mr georget… one things for sure this is toe-tapping house. taking its time to perfectly build up the progression towards smooth outbursts of wailing sirens. 6eme etape is another fine example of get-up-and-dance house, theres plenty of driving drum kick and jazzy key chords, nicely pulled back and interrupted, to drop back in again with a renewed energy. poil de renard on the other hand immediately marks out its territory among the german minimal and micro house space. strong, syncopated beats laced with chopped up whispers and unknown reverberations, this is tough! the 103 mix softens up the edges, a subtle underlying synth providing the mellowness – essentially your morning-after dub version.
