THIS IS IT / GALAXY STYLE (MARK BROOM / ROLANDO REMIXES)
12" Vinyl NL09.10.15
gary martin releases his second sequential ep on motech records, the *this is it* ep. the ep features two more exclusive tracks, *this is it* a driving composition accented with piano and synth patterns and subtle funky movement, and *galaxy style* a percussive, building composition expertly laced with muted samples and synth progressions.
included on this ep are two remixes from techno veterans mark broom and rolando. broom takes on *this is it* chopping the original into a hyper dance floor drubbing burner. rolando re-treats *galaxy style* into a composition that unfolds as it progresses, bathed in signature rolando production elements.
WE GET DOWN & WELL (ROBERT HOOD / DJ 3000 REMIXES)
12" Vinyl NL11.09.15
martins *escape from south warren* lp will arrive on october 5th on the label operated by frank juncaj, aka dj 3000. juncaj calls martin an *unsung hero of detroit techno* and cites his label, teknotika records, which has been running since 1993, as a key influence. the first remix ep, due out september 11th, features reworks by robert hood and dj 3000 in addition to two original cuts. mark broom and rolando contribute to the second ep, which arrives on october 12th.
after 20 years of experience, gary martin couldnt resist a 12 inch that is also the 50th release for teknotika: a label from detroit that didnt exactly stick with the game when it switched to the mp3 format. *basking in blackness* is a composition of textured broken beat then classic four on the floor old school soul. *synthotika* is what would happen if a synthasizer could take over an orchestra. a track inspired by detroit peers no doubt. *every bit as beautiful* goes sensative deep house piano, a lil latin percussion and soaring eno-esque synths to top it off. the title is a bit sarcastic, let us face it, there is no life after techno!
pressing on grey marbled vinyl.
owner of teknotika records gary martin is best known for his funky, exotic, and tribal grooves. the jennifer ep does not disappoint and delivers elements which range from hypnotic, percussive, and, tribal techno with that >detroit< flair
this time the machine calls upon detroit hero gary martin (aka gi gi galaxy) to do the business. garys clean production style and attention to simple rhythms have defined who he is. this definition is reworked and slanted by the talents of andy garcia on the remix, so as usual, cryovacs components work together to exist, so that our music may evolve.
next ep sampler from garys upcoming album, featuring gary on vocals for 2 electro industrial numbers >pornoriphic< and >killen me<, one straight up killer techno track >open the box<, and one cross over potential pop song called >anna was my libido< a tribute to anna nicole smith featuring vocals from b. p. legault.
'turkish tavern' leads off with some great middle eastern influences rubbing shoulders with a jaunty bassline, stellar sample loops, and shuffling beats on a tracky tech-house gem. on the flip, 'boredom or babylon?' combines some great vocal samples with bright synth lines, more shuffling beats, and a wandering bassline for more tech-house goodness. 'jungle concerto' rounds things off with a driving tech-house floor-pleaser, complete with grooving bassline, fast-paced percussion, and some great muted horns
an increasingly rare item these days, the techno 7'', but gary martin has never been afraid of bucking the system. here you get an edited take on his recent detroit-meets-electro winner, 'serious business' (i-94 mix), while on the flip, the previously unreleased 'a thought becomes youö'is a quirky downtempo electronic track that has definite eastern flavours...
serious business is a poppin' electro-tinged techno cut with gary using his usual flare for detroit synth textures nicely, 'ghetto chic' combines a deep bassline groove with clicking beats, sharp analog synths, + robotic vocals listing. of the 2 takes, the broadway mix just takes the edge, with a superb basic channel flavour
the release of a full length gary martin album on motech records serves as a culmination of vision for the label. originally inspired by martins teknotika records imprint, now some 20 years later, motech records has aged into the perfect outlet for his latest full length release, escape from south warren.

after being one of the many standouts on the we are opileců! vol. iii compilation back in 2016, i-robots glamouflage is now getting a full vinyl release with artwork by tomozo kevorkian, who was designer for nyc s body & soul, and remixes by a standout team of producers from japan to switzerland to south africa and the usa. opening up the ep is a fantastic new take ii version from label boss i-robots, who added exclusive chinese vocal samples recorded on the streets of huang jiang city many years ago. the track is inspired by ennio morricone and supermax and is a loose and infectious groove with brilliant drums and percussion and an elastic bassline that really gets you moving. it s a subtle update to the originalŚalso included here as a bonus cutŚwhich itself is a steamy and tropical sounding groove. swiss electronic pioneer schaltkreis wassermann then features on a version of the original that reaches for the cosmos with its rugged bass riffs, tumbling toms and busy, ever evolving groove. it has a big breakdown with exotic synths wandering through the night and oodles of effects and big guitar licks. the first of the remixes comes from kuniyuki takahashi who has been a big supporter of i-robots since 2000. he is a sound designer from japan who had a compilation of his works put out by music from memory back in february. his version is laden with cosmic synths and chants, grunting and organic drums and is sure to be massive this summer thanks to its open air vibes. detroit s underrated but vital gary martin is the boss of the teknotika label and his version featuring colten decker playing an unusual sax line shows another side to the motor city. it s a curious and mysterious tune that makes for an unsettling atmosphere that keeps you locked throughout as it snakes along.
