sebastian fiegen rolls out his debut solo release for cadenza records this spring, with a trio of excellent house cuts on the theofidelity ep. the german producer has been crafting quality productions for some time now under aliases and collaborations, and its on lucianos label where he makes his mark as a solo artist. dopeman opens the ep with a rolling chi-town house style groove, a simple yet effective filtered vocal loop and sustained strings harvest the feel good vibes over its solid beats. fiegen keeps up the pace with anando, more drum led house grooves with a high production value, the vocal refrain cutting in and out of the mix whilst the simplistic bassline and woody percussion maintains the bouncing vibes. closing the ep is th01, again coming correct with the feel good factor with its use of the looped sample and lazy, hypnotizing drums. a cracking debut production from fiegen, and a well rounded release for cadenza.

as mood ii swing, production duo lem springsteen and john ciafone became one of the most in-demand remixers in the late 90s. the duo s production career began modestly, however. after a failed attempt at r&b, the two turned to house music. early productions such as sylvano s * helpless* and wall of sound s *critical* were a step in the right direction, as were releases such as -i need a bitch- for cutting and -searchin - for groove on, but it was the duo s remixes of ultra naté s * free* for strictly rhythm that struck gold. the song became a huge hit and soon mood ii swing was remixing big-name producers like bt (-remember-) and king britt (* the reason*) as well as the next ultra naté single, * found a cure*, which also became a huge hit record around the world. then, as a testament to the duos success, the new york-based nervous have dug up the remixes mood ii swing did for the label during their seminal mid 90s period re mastered and re released on wax for 2016.

mad max: fury road’s epic score is written by tom holkenborg, aka junkie xl, a grammy nominated and multi-platinum producer, musician, and composer. junkie xls versatility puts him on the cutting edge of contemporary music, as well as in the vanguard of exciting new film composers.

cadenza music opens up its 2016 account with the debut single from swiss producers, rare movement feat. disco channel. cutting their teeth on the dj circuit for many years, and playing alongside such esteemed jocks as seth troxler, ricardo villalobos (who mastered the audio on these tracks), jamie jones and luciano (who ultimately signed this single to cadenza), the guys have crafted a pair of tracks that sit right in the dj sets of the aforementioned company. rare 007 combines tension building synths and a wandering bassline, wrapped up tight in solid drum groove, its hypnotizing tones carving out a most useful club tool. on the flip side, rare 011 digs deeper, with cinematic string sweeps over the sparse and bass heavy kick drum. flashes of vocal refrains and micro percussion fly in and out of the arrangement as the melodic elements give this one a real sense of drama as the track blossoms into life. a very accomplished debut from the guys will no doubt provide a real dancefloor moment in the right setting, and no surprise that villalobos gave these tracks the audio master that they deserve.

french producer juliano delivers the next ep, entitled * this must be...*, on his own imprint * that place records*. fourth in line on the label, following on from releases from visitors for reworks, mzkbx (aka sacha mambo) and love comedy, the now berlin-based artist gifts his very first ep to the collection. as a dj, juliano has spent the last 13 years honing his craft - first cutting his teeth holding down a residency at l ambassade, and then going on to play all over france and throughout europe. over a decade of digging and spinning has led juliano to develop a refined palette and a knack for finding tunes that make the dance floor bounce. strongly influenced by us house, * panaugust* is a real dance floor killer with its never ending synth. the more emotional * anthem for a friend* is a real tribute, drawing inspiration from chicago and detroit such as the real mess with its special rhythm & blues vibe. finally, cupid mess brings a touch of japanese mood, evoking images of an early-morning rising sun thanks to the classic juno6 sound. julianos ethos is that music should stay fun - preferring to keep things simple, but always real. watch out for this one.

dark entries digs deeper in to the archives of severed heads, one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the australian post-punk independent music scene. they began in sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of ‘industrial’ noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. as the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. in 1986 the band released the 12” single “petrol” on nettwerk records. we’ve decided to shed light on the evolution of “petrol” with this ep showcasing four earlier incarnations of what became an instant synth pop classic.

new zealand based crate digger frank booker invites good friend julien dyne to drop the second release on his new imprint down in the basement. jd picks up where the man called booker left off on vol 1 and gets straight up to speed cutting up rare boogie, disco and afro jams and employing his trademark raw cuts in an old school style, while lacing oodles of fx n stuff into the mix. the overall sound is reminiscent of the early idjut boys material, which is so close to mr booker s heart.
