mantra makes an entry to finnish proform series with his raw and uncompromised four track acid ep called “the abyss”. after releases on bunker records, polybius trax, solar one music and abstract acid under the mantra alias craig stainton delivers four tracks of jackin pure acid techno madness in the veins of true underground. starting with “next culture” is a good introduction to pumping beats and a moaning 303 while “beat methods” takes a rougher and tougher angle to acid. just imagine yourself in a warehouse party in the morning jammin to some acid. on the b-side “the abyss” leads us to the deep end of the 303 or even to the bottom of the acid sea. “singularity” ends this package with great 303 lines definitely burning up the house! a limited and numbered edition of 200, after that it’s gone, no represses, no digital, so you know what to do!

some time around 20 years ago, the artist known as dub surgeon made an absorbing album of beautiful dub infused with ambiance, found sounds and horizontal rhythms. the lost future was recorded at the former amsterdam film academy where dub surgeon. the recording engineer for the project was ricardo villalobos. dub surgeon and ricardo villalobos then mastered it together, putting it through several vintage mixers and recording it to 2 inch tape. then, tragedy struck: a storm surged and ignited a fire that ravaged the studio. the master copy was thought to have been lost forever. dub surgeon stopped making music and disappeared into the shadows after just two eps on future dub in 2002/3. but one day 15 years later, totally out of the blue, he received a demo of the lost future. pay attention to this, it said. attached was a demo version of the long lost album and now, finally, it has a perfect and impossibly poetic home on dubais ark to ashes, which is named in homage to the story of lee scratch perry burning down his black ark studio to rid it of demons. sounding as fresh as ever, the lost future is an authentic dub experience with a story as special as the music itself.

limited 100 vinyl pressure on this one from an undisclosed european producer who has been responsible for more than a few choice cuts over his 25 years of releasing records. burning up lights the dance floor by squeezing every last drop of energy out of just a few key elements, a modulating pulsing cross-rhythm bass snakes around driving disco beats with choice vocal samples adding the final bit of ear candy. minimal, a bit twisted, but hooky as hell. on the flip we have becoming cyclonic, a far deeper excursion where 808 toms dance around a repeating fretless bass melody. an immersive and euphoric melding of drum machines, synths and 12bit jazz-fusion samples, all being put through the sonic mincer and coming out like the proverbial gourmet sausage. yum!

2017 repress due to high demand and crazy online prices!! santuri s embaire umeme ep got a worldwide premiere from gilles peterson on a never-ending quest to support and exposure far off musical cultures around the world, the next on the corner releases sees them look to uganda. teaming up with santuri (an east african electronic music innovation project) and soundthread (a creative development non-profit), they have worked alongside the mugwisa international xylophone group with modern recording techniques and further re-arrangement on two remixes. the first, by sam jones, was premiered last week by stamp the wax, and today ushers in the second by alejandro mosso. a thudding kick drum at the first beat aims this one straight towards the early evening dancefloor. working in unison with samples from the giant wooden xylophone and conversations between the musicians, serves to place the track back into its original context and is allowed to settle for a couple minutes, before what sounds like a kora or zither brings a far-eastern twist. with the slow-burning, steady elements of a balearic production and the beguiling hypnotism of steve reich s work this is a big worldwide favourite.
