tyrees is an up and coming, london born and bred producer and dj with a heavy focus on breaks, bass and pads. his sound pays homage to and is an evolution of the elements that were so crucial in the uk dance music scene throughout the 90s and onwards. his love for hardcore, jungle and drum n bass of the early to mid 90s is principally important to the formation of his style. producers like tyrees are taking full advantage of the current wave of innovative and experimental styles of electronic dance music. with great respect and adoration, tyrees is combining percussive elements, rhythms, structures, samples and tempos from many genres and eras, creating familiar but fresh, unique and exciting sounds. aside from electronic dance music, tyrees is deeply interested in a broad spectrum of musical styles, notably the many sub-genres of jazz, soul and funk from the 60s and 70s, hip hop culture which was so heavily inspired by this music, and anything else from rock and orchestral pieces to world music and obscure osts. this obsession with music is apparent in the overall sound of his productions. tidy is a smooth and subtle journey through beautiful sample based pads, chopped breaks, synth lines and vocal samples. it is a gradually rising force, evolving with delicate bass and synth tones and a mysterious vocal narrative. it effortlessly transitions into a melodic latter half, concluding with a climactic, explosive drum

futureboogie open their 2015 account with this killer slab of sophisticated twisted disco from lonely boy, aka joshua heath. the californian producer has a track record for finely crafted house music on labels like miguel migs salted music and the inland knights drop music. his lonely boy moniker has yielded music for culprit and winding road, and this fbr release comes backed with an epic remix from the emperor machine.
returning to the southern fried home, machine loving disco oddball andy meecham aka the emperor machine is back with a new single from his album, and it comes ahead of a full new ep in 2015. *pop the lid* comes with remixes by hotter than hot international talent jacques renault, with whom meecham has also collaborated on a new ep forthcoming on jacques lets play house label, and will come in the form of a hand stamped and numbered white label 12 inch, limited to 300 copies.
as headman gears up to release his sixth album it appears he is having something of an identity crisis... is he headman? or is he, as his mother named him, robi insinna? either way, he is one of disco s most daring of producers and, monikers aside, anything he releases is well worth your attention. especially this first sampler from the album 6. a collaborative affair, each track sees him teaming up with kindred spirits and friends to forge new groove paths and re-position old references. -work- takes a kraftwerkian recipe and stretches it like a well made pizza dough, -barbarism- dusts off the cosmic guitars for an enlightened star-gazing session, -der- sits happily between black strobe and jeff wayne while -sleep red- cruises towards dfa city limits in a cowbell escalade. each one of them will have you hankering for the album. guaranteed.
andy meecham is a man of many musical incarnations and has been since the early 90s. following on from projects like the now dormant bizarre inc and revived dub-disco duo chicken lips, it is as the emperor machine that he explores his most experimental sounds. to date there have been three full length albums on dc recordings after the project was initially started with the idea of creating music using just one synth, the roland sh-3a. the results lay out the staffordshire mans love of vintage synthesisers for all to see, and combine tough edged disco beats with more cerebral cosmic melodies into alluring soundscapes that bend your mind and drive your feet. as well as a slew of 12s and lps, the emperor machine has also turned his hand to remixes of giants like moby, daft punk and royksopp, and has previously taken a live and inspiringly psychedelic incarnation of the project to clubs and festivals across the planet.
the critical pressure keeps on coming with an ep of epic proportions from two of d&bs leaders of heavy end, dance floor material. from the militant stance of the leading track *disrupted* to their own slamming remixes of each others tracks and the future-robo vibes of *void main void*, this ep is destined for clubs the world over.
the 2x12 vinyl comes with download code included.
after the success of erol alkans debut illumination ep, phantasy is proud to present the second remix 12inch. bang gets another outing with emperor machines stunning 8 minute extended remix, bringing the crystalline synth to the forefront, and rush hours house maestro tom trago completes the 12inch with a rolling intergalactic take on a hold on love, titled his tokyo mix.
the first single to be taken from fred v & grafix forthcoming debut lp. *recognise* showcases these two young producers at the peak of their game. young gun emperor applies his twisted neurofunk genius to the remix for this package, choosing to frontload the song and harmonic structure before descending with a spartan bassline workout and rugged tick-tock drums which will have every 21st century junglist grinning from ear to ear.
across the board club support for the emperor remix from the likes of s.p.y, enei, doc scott, fabio, pascal, june miller, dc breaks, marky, camo & krooked, spectrasoul.
when walter merziger and arno kammermeier head to the studio to work on new material for their long time project booka shade, the result is a winning combination of underground sensation and club hit, as titles such as mandarine girl and body language have proved to great acclaim. its a balancing act that only the most successful electronic musicians can do so successfully over such a period of time. booka shades new single >love inc< is no exception. presaging the fifth studio album release from these berlin transplants,>love inc< is infused with pure club sound created by merging a refined sense of sonance with solid craftsmanship. the duo pays a contemporary homage to chicagos former king of house, lil louis, whose 1992 hit club lonely serves as the tracks sample
one of the uks freshest new drum & bass talents drops his debut solo single on critical, this one is simple mammoth! emperor has been making waves over the past couple of years moonlighting with various camps but it was the keen ear of label boss kasra that cottoned on early drawing him deep into the critical ranks. if this new single is anything to go by, one of the best decisions critical could have made
2016 repress. the london-based producer and vocalist has recently inked a deal with the legendary crosstown rebels label and is currently putting the finishing touches to a new album (the follow up to 2010s love harder). the first track to be taken from the album is emperor, which features additional vocals from kali.
ORGANISER / ONE CHANCE (FOREIGN CONCEPT / EMPEROR RMXS)
12" Vinyl UK31.08.12
another month and yet another heavyweight release from the critical music powerhouse, this time a mixed up limited release from some very special artists indeed. digging in the critical crates, label boss kasra has enlisted the help of two new wave makers to re-work a couple of classics from the vaults. the results impeccable as always and ultra obscene!first up foreign concept swoops in to offer his take on spectrasouls computer future >organiser<. keeping the robo-vox, foreign concept builds some hefty half-time breaks around the vicious undulating b-line that works its way deep into the mix with twists and chopped up fx at every turn. does serious damage when stepped to so beware! criticals newest arrival to the fold, emperor, then turns on his controls and flips in one hell of a crunching remix of eneis >once chance<. industrial pads, echoed vocals and sirens make way for a rolling break intertwined with some gnarly tech-bass and a smattering of crispy percussion. watch for the intricate edits, emperor will have you begging for more by the end of it. a mighty showing from a future talent not to be reckoned with.
absolutely tearing drum & bass coming from modulations this month! certainly the hardest piece to come on criticals sister label so far and from an artist that not many will have heard of yet all that could be about to change though, all hail the new, emperor. someone call an ambulance!
dj support from andy c, friction, kasra, cyantific, wilkinson, rockwell and many more.
hailing from new zealand, truth and decoda have established themselves as true heavyweights of the dubstep scene. following releases on several high profile labels, and their hit album >puppets< truth lay it down for wheel & deal.
truth & decoda the emperor: emperor is the heavy hitting, distorted reese tearout monster with a dramatic intro of horror film proportions. this follows the dark jump up vibe of wheel & deal, and will smash up any dance.
truth & dutty ranks calling you back: this is a upbeat style track, reminiscent of the older dubstep sound. with a tribal skank and haunted garage style vocal, this is soulful but sub heavy in its own right.
these have had support from n-type, walsh, hatcha, and mistajam to name but a few.
he has been called the baron of the beats, a knight of life, the life of the night, or even occasionally plain mike gamwell, to you and i though, he is only knightlife.
he is cutters records secret weapon and he is back with the 3rd tome in his royal club catalogue, serves you right / otherway.
the new 12 inch follows on from knightlife i (2007) and knightlife ii (2009), funnily enough, both promising quests into the future of dance with a healthy respect of the past from the melbourne-based producer. with a string of distinguished remixes in between times, serves you right / otherway again sees gamwell forge onwards and upwards, adding yet more strings to his accomplished bow.
the title track >radio anatomy< is a synth-laden italo monster, serious dance-floor material. detuned pads fizz under an arp and walking bass, caving in to a tear-away synth lead that pumps the tune into overdrive. the groove has a pace to it and sits on top of the beat and all surrounding articulation and effects keep things interesting.
on the flip we have got a serious remix from none other than emperor machine. this guy has been unstoppable in the remix department for some time, and it doesnt look like he will be faltering anytime soon! we are initiated with brioskis fantastic original bass and pad sequence, but in typical e.m. fashion the build up is sustained and full of suspense. haunting vocal chants ensue before the bass drops and the funk kicks in. what a drop! the switches are clever, the instrumentation is solid and the vibe is out of this world. brioski - >radio anatomy is an unforgiving italo dance-floor release, with help from one of nangs finer contributors.
>how deep is your love< is the first single from the raptures forthcoming album in the grace of your love, their first full length release on the dfa label. the record was recorded in brooklyn and paris, france, and produced by phillippe zdar, who has also worked with chromeo, phoenix, air, daft punk and cut copy. zdar is also one half of the duo cassius.
lipservice are proud to welcome a new addition to their label roster. out of city are a tuscan based trio and are no strangers to the scene. having already worked with labels like eskimo and dc recordings they make a melting pot of sounds with their fingers and thumbs!
in dino storai, simone fedi and nicola lopetuso we find a band that seem to effortlessly combine synth music with disco, rock and punk, and their forthcoming lp for lipservice is a real joy to listen to from start to finish.
drawing you in with its hypnotic nursery rhyme riffs, breathy samples, crushing bass and huge hyncopated drums which create pay tvs libidinously rare grooves coming on like a 21st century serge gainsbourg with added dancefloor savvy.
listeners who are familiar with the ex-bizarre inc and chicken lips man s previous material will know exactly what to expect from andy meecham s latest record. the staffordshire-based producer wears his penchant for vintage analogue synthesizers firmly on his sleeve, creating a melange of hard-hitting disco beats and throbbing cosmic melodies. entitled space beyond the egg, the album sees meecham exploring a few new territories, with the swinging kananana even featuring a catchy vocal hook, marking it out from his previously instrumental solo material. prepare yourself for plenty of strutting and shuffling percussion as well as mindbending synth workouts that should send you firmly into space when the record drops in june.
title track kananana is a searing pop oddity replete with murmurous vocals and swinging guitar licks. it ebbs bit by bit into the mind of the listener, gradually imbuing a weird sense of vacant bliss alongside a swelling emotional charge - this is a new strain of mutated pop genius!
