marbert rocel spend most of their time looking out of the window and smoking. then they make music, someone draws for a while, and they soon go back to looking out of the window and making music. marbert rocel are twinkle-toed, and yet hardly tangible when you try to grasp them. they combine dance music with songs, songs with cookies and, in turn, cookies with dance music.therefore, marbert rocel spent a lot of time touring – playing gigs in germany, holland, italy, poland, indoors, outdoors, on the roof, in the cellar, in small groups, in front of many people, and in front of very many people.<it greatly influenced our music. this is the reason as to why we now make ballads at 130 bpm.< at a concert on enceladus in 2010, marbert rocel met martin kohlstedt. he seemed to fit perfectly to the band and behind the rhodes, thanks to his constant eight- armness and his tiger stripes.

first up is 92, a straight up jacking deep house number with, as the title suggests, a retro flavour. the deep repetitive pads are jacked up with amen break style drums that were used so widely in electronic music back in the 90s. some quirky synth lines and vocal licks here and there give the track its touch of soul and then a fat bass line to bring in the bottom end. high quality simple yet effective house music...

foul & sunk, the swiss-german house-imprint based in freiburg and zurich, rings the bells for round 4 with the eriswil ep by jagged, a spunky release that blushes your cheeks like a strong sip of bernese apple brandy. and bern is the code word that sheds light on the origin of jagged: behind the name hide three veterans of the swiss house music scene - the djs and producers benfay, jay sanders and zukie173, who emerge from the vicinity of the now discontinued freestyle label a few among others, whose founder was zukie173. as jagged, they are releasing house music built upon hard-hitting drums, sinister bass lines and soul-drenched instrumentation for over four years by now. they debuted on quintessentials with hello kool nice in 2008, and didnt lose their gritty energy since then. now, theyre back on foul & sunk with eriswil, a deep rolling, dark monster that also gets a remix-treatment by the abstract eye

london based welshman chamboche returns to the label that launched him with the smoke screen ep. his unquantifiable sound swerves genre classification, hovering around house but with enough musicality to please the hardened disco head. swirling pads and a bubbling bass line set down the groove, while keys fall around horns and vocals to make the lead track a refined, uplifting work out. slowly unfolding, the track is hypnotic and absorbing, showcasing the style of a producer as able to work the mind as the hips. bicep toughen up the drums and work the arpeggio, stripping down the track and bringing the chicago influence higher in the mix. while the original subtly unfolds, their remix demands attention from the outset, building to a climax then recoiling for another bite at the cherry. thinking big, krl ramps up the intensity with a bright, kinetic reworking. aimed squarely at the peak time, he harnesses all of smoke screen’s most propulsive elements to really work the floor. tucked away on the b side is the expansive mind your mind. trademark chamboche percussion is woven around a blissful riff, swelling majestically to round off the ep in slo(w) burning euphoria.

tresor records marks its 250th release with a very special project indeed. continuing to forge ahead whilst remaining ever mindful of its legacy, tresor proudly presents infiniti - the remixes: a trilogy of classic cuts and new reworks from one of its original detroit linchpins juan atkins. dubbed as his pure techno project, atkins produced two full-length albums under the infiniti moniker-the infiniti collection, released by tresor in 1996, and skynet two years later. 16 years on and they are as relevant today as they were pioneering then, brought further up-to-date here with a series of fresh takes from some of technos pioneering and esteemed figures: thomas fehlmann, tv victor, function, redshape, sleeparchive and the re-release of dubtechno vanguard moritz von oswalds remix of >think quick<, originally released in 94 on metroplex. part two picks up the pace, heading further down the timeline with >flash flood< - originally released in 1995 as part of one of the labels famous annual compilations, re-edited by sandwell districts function. skynets punchy classic on the flip, >skyway< rounds off the ep with a killer old-school remix by technos masked crusader redshape.

march sees the formidable hypercolour deliver its most surprising output yet, an ep from none other than groove armada. tom findlay and andy cato need little introduction as groove armada. chart smashes, huge live tours and being part of the worldwide electronic music history aside, the duo have never lost touch with their acid house roots and have continued to be devoted to record buying, djing and the much maligned promo trawl. tom and andy have been avid followers of the label it seemed, since its inception. it was through label head jamie, meeting the guys back in 2010 at space in ibiza, and then continued communication via hypercolour promos, that led to an out-of-the-blue email requesting an informal hook up in east london and, within just a few days, a release was scheduled. that release is the >no knock ep<, four tracks that range from 808 fuelled old school cuts to low slung, moog-bassd electronic funk. each sound is lovingly crafted but there is an analog rawness throughout and every track has the sort of tweaked, off-kilter and occasionally awkward vibe that hypercolour do so well. it just takes a bit of imagination to guess what a ga release on hypercolour should sound but failing that, just check the release out as it wont disappoint.

its been a while since we have seen a release from dfrnt for on the edge, but im proud to announce, the wait is finally over! this ep provides us with an abundance of different flavours, but still retains the genius sound that is dfrnt at the very core of every tune. let me first draw to your attention to >the big freeze<. its a drum and bass track that has been moulded like a true pro. it sounds like dfrnt has been producing d+b for a long time with the finishes on this track, but believe its one of his earlier efforts. its a refreshing bpm for his take on electronic music and hope to hear more of the same from dfrnt soon. then dfrnt shows us what he is all about when he goes all out 4x4. a dirty, gritty techno roller (with a skip) that will blow your socks off! love the production on this one. then we have >monday morning<. this does exactly what it says on the tin, just the type of tune you need to bring you down after a heavy weekend. as though that wasnt enough, there is a 170 remix from man of the moment, indigo! support comes from: hatti vatti, synkro, versa, mary ann hobbs, kissy sell out, fused forces, loxy, dj rum, 501 and truth to name a few.

we celebrate our number 30 with a double pack, featuring one of the creators of techno in spain: groof.roberto gemelin, from madrid, is groof. hes robert calvin too. no matter which of his alias you know him by, hes one of the most active producers in the madrid arena.aka robert calvin, he released materials with turbo (tigas label) in 2004, having previously collaborated with star whores in a joint release with alek stark (2002). also important are the remixes he did for disko b or for sindicato records and msx, paying tribute to megabeat with his recreation of the great classic strange.his background as groof is even more extensive, as his early steps go back to the times of minifunk (the cheeky and shameless label from barcelona that was then managed by omar and dj loe). with them he recorded mambo! (1999) and i want you(2000). he has also recorded with warmup, fieber, rainwaves or shareware records.at the end of the ninetees groof shared quite unusual with oscar mulero: the start of a deep friendship that nowadays brings us wu30 mini-album.

in 2006, hip-hop was turned on its head by the arrival of chicagos kenny dennis, a proudly married, mustachioed and middle-aged rapper repping no-nonsense lyrics and a salt-of-the-earth swagger. this unlikely hero delivered a handful of classics via the album, dennehy, and then disappeared. but in 2011, kennys cult of fans were given a gift: the long-lost 1993 lp theres a situation on the homefront from his theretofore unheard boom-bap crew tha grimm teachaz. (kenny was then known as kdz, tha killa deacon. the group was briefly signed to jive records.) as it turned out, that gift was twofold. inspired by the anticon-backed release of that unearthed gem, kenny has teamed up with producers jel and odd nosdam to make a brand new record, a reintroduction of sorts, dubbed the kenny dennis ep.

originally recorded for chris blackwell of island records the rights of ‘life of contradiction’ were then given to joe higgs who released the album in jamaica and the u.k. in 1975. it was immediately obvious that this was a unique collection coming from a completely different direction to the other reggae releases of the period. although joe had first recorded some of the songs in the early sixties for studio one it was as if he was at last able to realise a vision of his own music that had previously been denied to him: either by financial constraints or from not having the right situation with the right musicians.

feted kosmische synthesizer wizards from cleveland oh, emeralds, have never had any of their music remixed before. let alone having the title track from their acclaimed 2010 album reworked (twice) into a floor-filling behemoth by daphni (aka dan snaith aka caribou). >we toured together in 2010 and since then ie always wanted to play their music in my dj sets. so i did my own version of this track<, says snaith. >is one of those tracks that whenever i play it i can feel the energy in the room lift.< luckily emeralds were equally enthusiastic and so this unlikely hybrid see the light of day. …or rather the dark inside of a club.

really exited about this one, ana helder from argentina (comene) delivered here an nice and freaky oldschool mid tempo track,so nice.the first remix is by astro labs home cat timothy j fairplay, something between carpenter and andrew weatherall.then on the b side ivan smagghes remix is just amazing with some old synth and techno atmosphere. last one is frank west,our second collaboration,he turns the song into a solid booty dub song.

next amazing thoughtless moover by stare5 aka bryan zentz with a huge remix of noah pred. known for his distinctive productions over the years as barada, cyan and under his own name on seminal techno labels such as primate, tronic, jericho, plus 8 and cmyk, bryan zentz reprises his stare5 role for thoughtless with three tracks of dub-fueled deepness. pushing ever outward on tides of subsonic bass, >the sprawl< emerges from cover of night, a vast expanse of sleepless chords illuminating the darkness as ripples of reverberant effects reach toward the stars. label boss noah pred adds another layer to the low end to imbue his remix with a swinging pulse, then intensifies the hypnosis with a sinuous synth that snakes its way through a winding labyrinth built from the materials of the original. >frozen fog< opens with cold yet insistent stabs that keep pace atop a bouncing dub bass line, responsive chords building pressure amidst gradually rising vapors. with equal nods to detroit and berlin, bryan zentz successfully presents his own unique vision of a classic form with >the sprawl< - solidifying his reputation as a master of the style in the process.

andrew samoyed used to be such a nice young man. when he wasnt wearing lovely jumpers or impressing peoples mothers, he was toying with his synthetic pianos and computer chips to create ambient heartbreakers that could reduce your most unresponsive uncle to a snivelling mess. imagine everyones surprise then, when sometime after the release of his 2007 debut >always from this point<, without warning or reason, the famed samoyed eye-glint started to cloud over.

never ones to stand still dons rainbow marks a quantum leap for seahawks, the first release on new label ocean moon and the first recording from the invisible sunrise sessions. invisible sunrise is the forthcoming album from seahawks and the first to be recorded with live musicians rather than a hard drive full of dusty old samples. the results are stunningly original, not least on this track with new york head autre ne veut. anvs debut album last year on olde english spelling bee was an incredible rush of warped r&b, 80s synths, amazing songs and what has to be one of the most innovative voices to emerge in the last 5 years. since then hes released a great ep on hippos in tanks, played some mind bending live shows and guested on the ford & lopatin album. dons rainbow sounds like michael mcdonalds sweet freedom crossed with nite flight era walker brothers. a fantastic piece of hazy avant pop with jan hammer pulse wave synths, yah mo b there drums and fuzz drenched spirals of soprano sax and guitar colliding with the sound of soul from outer space. on the flip the dub takes the track into a world of shadows, where smeared washes of sound swim in an ocean of decay. as always with seahawks releases the packaging is beautiful. heavyweight vinyl in a full colour sleeve, with full colour labels. the last seahawks release sold out in days, we expect this one to do the same, so get your skates on!

hissy fit is the brainchild of the moustache mamas, part berlin, part london composed of a us east-coast sensibility and a uk north east sense of humour. its a vehicle to be able to work with the artists and release the music they love, to give something physical (yes all releases will be pressed on vinyl) to the people that spend all that time dancing when the girls are djing. the mamas have then built up a reputation of being grade-a party starters across europe, playing at the rawest of parties, and outshining some of the boys in the boys club. their approach to djing is mirrored in their approach to starting hissy fit, the girls are serious about their music even if the music itself doesnt need to be serious. for its first release hissy fit welcomes aboard leeds based >death on the balcony<. this year they have been cosying up to the likes of soul clap and the wolf and lamb posse, as well as being booked to play all over the damn place causing hissy fits of epic (yet joyous) proportions. the ep contains three originals, and kicks off with >every time< a synth-laced house jammer that brings in the clap & the punch with just the right oomph for the kids on the floor.

funky and laid back jazz constructed house tracks with spacy dimension by dewalta. we are very happy to release such a fantastic long player which keeps alive our dear paris-berlin connection and our taste for subtle melange between jazz and house music. both tracks malbec and syrah will bring you far on the dancefloor like a good wine does with its fine and deep flavours of fruits and whatever it can tell about the history of its ground. david koch under his artist name dewalta persuades first on the a side with malbec. a dry clap introduces to the affair, short followed by a kick and a driving funky deep baseline which could be far enough to convince any dj fan of minimal hypnotic loops. having set up that strong base, he plays then carefully some light but brillant layers of jazzy arrangements. santé! syrah, follows up in a more trippy way performing a jazzy and elegant journey which destination is certainly somewhere in the cosmos. mastered and cutted by mike grinser at the berlin studio man made mastering.

the mini album hope was another change in sound, and featured arrangements by sean o hagan, then of the high llamas. featuring six songs including a cover of leonard cohens >winter lady<, oldhams voice is set in a reflective and soft-hued sound throughout.

if you have seen tiga play a festival set over the past few months, then you saw him play at least three to five clouds tracks, with at least one of them being >optic<, >future blaster<, or >vaults<.
these scottish ladmen are some of the most promising producers working today, combining brutish, visceral force with real intelligence and control. they use no gear whatsoever, crafting their bombs from malware in public chatrooms, giving voice to a generation living in the digital ether between the moon and glaswegia city.
for the remix, clouds asked to enlist a hero of theirs, the swedish techno master jesper dahlbäck, who adds another excellent remix to his massive catalog and further cements his place in the turbo hall of endless respect.

nice price deal !!! a killer first release on flight recorder. we present label founder iron blu who drops a 4-tracker of deep, stripped back detroit-tinged techno. side a opens with an intense drum-driven, string-laden stomper, whilst the second track continues with a growling bass holding the alien stabs and scattering snares together. side b goes deeper, with endless eye navigating a deep bass beneath sweet strings and angular synths, then the final track goes into dub realms and even deeper.

from the start of this debut release from amsterdam-based lapien, one conceives that the young producer is conscientious. >anvers<, the french name for belgian port antwerp, starts in unassuming manner, synths swimming, bass pondering, a gentle cymbal tapping. its the sound of thoughtful admiration, as if lapien is standing in front of the citys towering gothic cathedral, motionless in the midst of a now modern metropolis. but then, as loops spring uncomfortably back and an insistent beat thunders into the fray, one realizes that this is no time for admiring architecture: this is a night drive through the city – coarse orange streetlamps, chrome blue reflections, droplet-stained window panes. it is, also, at an unusually and unsettlingly fast pace, dragging its deeper house timbres and textures upwards. conforces mix is anything but restful: alarms in the distance fall around offbeat rhythms of increasingly diverse dynamics, bringing rain down on the city at night. to end, fred ps composition is heavy & uncompromising, yet it quivers with synths washed in beautiful, calming ambience

>xenomorph / vespertilio< follows up peter kruders >law of return< track, that was a highlight, both in the music world in 2009 and in macros ever brilliant catalogue - and one of the now most sought after recent vinyl collectors records. xenomorph takes off where law of return ended. 2012 couldnt start deeper: detail rich, dreamy, pushing enthusiastically forward into the new year. vespertilio then moves between the off-centre sound aesthetics of a morricone soundtrack and the intensity of hypermodern subbass droppings. this is an irresistably deep double package, exceeding even the boldest expectations. a masterpiece. no more, no less.

after a break for over a year pattern repeat is back again with another two tracks on their own label. both kenneth & resoe has been really busy last year, so it has been difficult to meet up in the studio. but now they had the time to finish two tracks of deep dirty techno from the capitol of denmark copenhagen. again they set it of with raw dirty dub infected grooves and the a side starts up right away with the dub elements intact, and then keeps building through the rest of the track. after the short break a hypnotic atmosphere kicks off in best pattern repeat style. the b side starts slowly with an almost alfred hitchcock kind of atmosphere, with a dull kick underneath. the track keeps gettin more dirty through the 6 min. and 15 secs. it last, with more distortion added to the dub stabs. its a good way that kenneth & resoe returns since the last 12 inch they put out in december 2010, to set the stage for 2012.
