danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen’s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum’s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven’s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

nick mackrory & harry collier’s musical partnership dates all the way back to the 90’s, when they were both deeply invested in the musical boom in the uk that followed acid house, the rave scene, and the ibiza experience. nick went from drumsticks to turntables to studio wizardry, while harry honed in on his golden voice - which led him to a stint as a singer for faithless. they found their way back to each other in 2014 and have since developed a sound together that is fresh but not too polished. with touches of 60’s chanson coupled with sundazed electronics, their songs linger on like the feeling of a long day spent outdoors in summer.

the broken glass is a work conceived and produced between austria and spain and represents the eleventh reference of the catalogue of stoerung label. in this collaboration field recordings and synthesis processed by asferico create cyclical and hypnotic structures, which mia zabelka furnishes with her violin and voice. the lp version consists of two versions of the piece, the first more minimalist and conceptual and the second more rhythmical and synthesizer based. through a display of distorted and isolated sounds, we are driven in the first version into an deep listening, as if sounds where placed under a microscope or we were contemplating them through a telescope. this approach lets us perceive the bare physicality of sounds in a way which enables us to grasp subtleties and aspects of sound which we are not used to. the second version continues where the first version left us, but in this piece, we are eventually flooded by hypnotic loops, white noise and synthesis and the experience has a different flavor. now what we have acquired through the first version, the enhancement of our listening and appreciation of subtleties of sounds, is inserted into a rhythmical structure which acts as a strong current, pulling us inside an ocean full of astonishing sounds.

nonkeen is a project led by nils frahm (erased tapes) alongside sebastian singwald and frederic gmeiner. nils frahm and gmeiner attended the same school in hamburg. a mutual interest in sound recording brought them together and they began producing their own radio show which featured sounds from school, the voices of their teachers and recordings of their own instruments, all recorded on tape machines for kids. the double vinyl release includes a download code.

one year has passed since the pilotwings’ first output « agorespace ». expectations went further in 2015 as they contributed to the rave-ish j-zbel project. the pair is now back on bfdm with another ode to rurality and old-fashioned analogue. including 4 tracks, « molitor 71 » goes deeper into retrofuturist nostalgia and bucolic mood. a1 31 septembre (on va tout niker) introduces full-on panflute melodies and uplifting korg exotica. as the trancy chicago dream fades out, a2 les invasions babar unveils its weird combo of electro beats and massive patrick cowley-esque synths. unplanned bass moves lead this jam while an undertaking voice calls for no less than « the greatest experience of your life ». things settle down on the nocturnal b1 congo libre. focus on breakbeats and sophisticated rhythms evokes trance beats, while sparkling synths emerge from everywhere. the ep ends up with a floating ambient piece called buruganda ouverture and designed for the listener to rediscover the meaning of his existence. molitor will give you faith in humanity and flutes again.

was wäre das leben ohne erotik? das dachte sich einmal mehr das diggler-label und setzt nach kurzen ausflügen in die science fiction seine berüchtigte serie the erotic world of... mit einer zusammenstellung des österreichischen komponisten gerhard heinz fort. das musikalische dargebotene spektrum könnte dabei nicht breiter sein: kiffer-rock, bossa nova, schlager, schmalz -- heinz lässt nichts unberührt und die cinematografischen glanzlichter à la liebesspiele junger mädchen, ich mache alles mit oder auch insel der 1000 freuden noch besser flutschen. gleich 19 mal wird die schönste sache der welt unverkrampft und mit gelegentlichem augenzwinkern besungen und bestöhnt, als gäbe es kein morgen mehr. aufgrund der stilistischen vielfalt ist abwechslung in jeder hinsicht garantiert: kaum hat man sich von dem anrüchigen -come shoot- (gesungen von the background studio groupies) erholt, wird man mit dem gleichermaßen schrägen wie furchtbaren -dampfnudeln- (aus dem streifen geh, zieh dein dirndl aus) schnell auf den boden der tatsachen zurückgeholt.

the fourth studio album „in the beginning“ by the critically acclaimed live band marbert rocel from leipzig. a place far away from everything, yet right around the corner. a vision close enough to touch, yet so far away. surrounded by keys, hatches, pots and small fragmented parts, marbert rocel lie down, discuss and dance through the winter of 2015. in this environment, in their studio in leipzig, the band ties together the songs, which first saw the light of day in a small spot enclosed by woods in the summer of 2014. ?each decision goes through every head, each chord is listened to a hundred times, from font to back and in reverse, each compromise: a triumph for the common cause. not pompoous string arrangements fuel this album with grandeur, but rather the notion of a consensual nod, which has evolved within marbert rocel over the years. ?“in the beginning” is the fourth album by marbert rocel, a living utopia and a tart kiss for every purist genre lover. nothing is hewn raw on here, rather sculptured delicately. percussion is tickling from synth pads like dew, and the songs welcome you like good friends. like tinkerbell, spunks voice guides through this strange familiar world, moving past big feelings and small gestures, to finally lead to where it all started: “in the beginning”.

having previously lent her quirky voice to the london based cosmic jazz collective nostalgia 77 and renowned german beatmaker dexter, josa peit settled into the lab and developed an intriguing musical sphere of her own. on her debut ep constellation, josa peit has crafted her own brand of soul miniatures, emerging under influences of house, disco, krautrock, psych, and hip hop.

for the duration of the event, which features residencies, installations, live performances, workshops, screenings and more, the vinyl factory has created the vinyl factory recording studio to provide a space for musicians and artists to experiment and improvise and has installed the vinyl factory press on-site to manufacture these recordings into vinyl editions. trevor jackson recorded this release in the vinyl factory recording studio as part of station to station. pressed on-site at the barbican centre for station to station july 2015.
