here at nang towers we are really happy to have back slovenian talent sare havlicek, without any doubt one of our favourite producers, and to present you all his latest creation *movies for lovers*. sometimes we like to try something a bit different. often the process of creating an album can be a not-so-simple task: which tracks are the singles? which is the breather track? do we have ten songs? have we covered all the bases? the list goes on. sometimes the answer is to throw convention out the window and just try to harness a burst of energy and get it down on eighteen minutes-a-side of vinyl. we gave sare the following brief: lock yourself in a studio for four weeks and come up with a piece of cohesive work. abandon the formulas, do some experimenting and (most importantly) try some things you wouldnt normally do. *movies for lovers* is the result of that session and encapsulates the feeling of the journey sare embarked on to bring you this album.

whilst some people claim that the number seven is lucky, some people, like duff, dont believe in luck, or if there is such a thing as luck you make your own. you cant rely on anyone else to hold your hand you know, you gotsta forge your own path, they arent called the mean streets for nothing. duff is the sort of man who not only makes his own luck (cos who else is gonna look after you?) but he keeps an eye on his bredren too. those in the neighbourhood feel safe because all is good in duffs hood, always has been, always will be, the police dont even come there, because they don’t have to, that block is on lock-down brother. though he isnt some type of machismo, over-the-top (hat back go-on sly) caricature, its just the way it is, nuthin to argue about. he has a way about him, the glare of a pitbull and the smile of don juan, dusty is his girl yep thats her real name, the name her mamma gave her on the day she was introduced to this world. the girl is fine thats for sure but what else would you expect from the honey that rides shotgun with the sonic casanova. she might call herself lucky. duff would disagree.

disco connoisseur and edit maestro ray mang is back with a killer release for the disco deviance imprint. lock & pop is a heavy slice of body popping, good times boogie that is guaranteed to get the party started. while on the flipside, viva las vegas is a hands-in-the-air style disco bomb that will drive the dance floor crazy. lovingly edited and re-mastered for 100% disco action. enjoy the music!

haunting, post-house deconstruction from russian outsider neotnas. >that day< is vocal dance music for lost souls, disparaging practical compromise and sunny chord progressions for a bones-bare, ruthlessly sincere interrogation of hopelessness, apathy and ultimate transcendence. suppressed waves of orchestral melancholia pass through entrancing heroin-paced percussive mechanics, unveiling the cavernous sprawl of neotnas masterful production. casting an icy shadow of depth and despair that is not easily shaken, four by fog lends his unexpectedly beautiful vocals to the project, proving the axiom >if you dont have the key, just break the lock<.

next detroit - chicago bomb by echonomist. incl huge john dimas remix. like an aficionado of acid house echonomist returns with a stormer on third wave. this time his hyped chord progressions resolve into a groove that is more or less a reminiscence of the hacienda days. dans mon salon sings in black shades >i feel for you<, >to lock with a groove that i crave for<. a praise to jack, a praise to the way of jack. ultimately, >jack had a groove. and from this groove came the grooves of all grooves<… john dimas goes deeper underground with a simple primitive like pulsating groove. the insistent bass line tone (that slowly unravels an opening filter) clearly connects to old skool techniques of acid house masters.

four bombs in birmingham key nods to detroit techno to hard, industrial, sharp and blunt with abrasive groove basslines like cathedrals and yard beats with hypnotic electronic sequences and mental development are not faint of heart. reaktor records does not fail and will make this album essential in your set.

living it out – perhaps the most unabashedly danceable song on janine planningtorock rostrons dfa debut album w – comes on (that is to say, seduces) in just the right ways. the song is all addictive disco, with synthesized string skitterings and rostrons voice purring out (she sounds like a futuristic eartha kitt here) a perfect melody that somehow gets even better at the chorus. its pure pleasure upsurge from beat-driven start to pizzicatto end, the kind of song that lets you know that, amidst rostrons many musical idiosyncracies, included is the ability to write a song that simply drags you out onto the dancefloor.

there are a number of producers who are known for being prolific, roska, cooly g, benga to name a few, and now gerry read can be added to that list. the cambridgeshire producer has only a handful of actual releases to his name, but a vault of hundreds. we can well imagine his hardrive straining from the sheer velocity of ideas that he sends our way. raw, urgent and frequently off kilter, gerrys production challenges your ears but always manages to lock in the groove.
