here we present you a very special ep. riverettes first record of 2016 is a very special one indeed,comprised of two special tracks made by two very special artists. we have been holding onto this one for quite a while as we were afraid putting this two tracks on one record would be overkill, but screw it! - we have never believed there is such a thing as too much awesomeness.
side a sees legowelt doing an edit kind of song in the most legowelt way possible and its not even an edit. the result ... craziness my friends, as can only be done by the mad man himself.
side b is quite a different beast, and one that is quite dear to our heart, as it is the debut of local producing duo dos attack. not ones to release much info about themselves we only know that their debut track was so good it was decided to be put on the other side of a legowelt track.

amin peck is an electronic studio project, contaminated by the new wave from u.k. like most ’80s electronic bands. amin-peck walked a fine line between disco and minimal wave throughout the course of the early 1980s, oftentimes incorporating shameless pop melodies and avant-garde leanings. amin peck were an italian band leaded by giorgio fioroni (aka george fyron, arrangements, production, vocals) with leonard parker (arrangments, keyboards) and max marne (production). incredible but true, amin peck started as hard rock guitar band in the 70s... and becoming one of the best examples of italo disco. this limited edition it contains full-length versions plus uncut audio material (a2) tracked down during tape restoration. (the first pressing coming from 1982 was pressed only on 7inch in u.k.)

leiras returns to his mother platform, ownlife, on his favorite format. four tracks that play with sharpness: influenced by cyclical ebm techno to the darkest and primitive acid. *ruins of dignity* is a look into the psyche of men, a tribute to our ancestors capacity of symbolism and abstraction.

keeping up the urgent pace set by the strength in numbers collection, thema now turns to a modern master of the jakbeat, d’marc cantu. hailing from ann arbor on the fringes of detroit, cantu has worked for more than a decade developing a sound that carries the torch from the box jam originators of techno and house music. his first appearances were alongside the mighty tadd mullinix (better known as james t. cotton) with their 2 am/fm project, before bringing traxx into the fold for the x2 venture. as a solo artist cantu has shored up on labels as highly regarded as crème organization, m>o>s, nation and desire, bringing a rich, full-bodied sound laden with powerful synth hooks, crafty drum programming and a live, jammed-out delivery that overflows with imagination. given his adventurous tendencies and punchy midwestern finish, cantu is a perfect fit on thema and the six tracks that make up this record show a great deal of the diversity the man is capable of, from dancefloor burners to atmospheric introspections.

nice price deal !!! frak are björn isgren, johan sturesson and jan svensson, a trio of synthesizer lovers from sweden. the band was formed when svensson and isgren’s older sisters were best friends and they introduced their little brothers to each other. inspired by severed heads, daf, human league, devo, skinny puppy, the boys began collecting analog equipment and started studio styrka. while the band were still in their early teens they released the first frak cassette album in 1987 on their own record label börft.

strictly mood ii swing is a new track collection of music from one of the most influential house music duos of all time. as mood ii swing, production duo lem springsteen and john ciafone will go down in history as one of the most prolific and respected house duos of the last 25 years. at their best, they were simply untouchable, with their drum programming often cited as what set them apart from the rest of the field: always busier and more intricate than straight-up 4/4 house tracks

* this is the seventh surgeon album.
* -while exploring new production techniques using old and unlikely hardware, the results were so unusual that i really had the sense that these pieces of equipment didn t actually create these sounds, rather they were in fact some kind of elaborate reception device that allowed me to tune into transmissions from distant galaxies. the music i could hear was actually the received transmissions of pop hits from those distant galaxies that were being played on their radio stations. i quickly recorded all that i could before losing the transmission.
* i consulted with dr andrew read, the astrophysicist with whom i recorded guitar treatments in 1999. he has worked on the discovery of the most distant galaxies and astronomical objects in the universe. together we came up with a possible list of where these musical transmissions may have come from.

zackey force funk was born into this wild world in tucson, az in 1974. in and out of prison since the age of 17, zff began producing on pirated software his brother gave to him once he had given up a life of crime to focus on writing tunes and raising his family. first discovered by kutmah back in the golden era of myspace, zackey’s signature “force funk sound” swiftly grabbed the attention of a number of formidable producers. as these tunes were scattered across various labels, finding their homes on their respective collaborator’s projects, zff continued to hone his style, delving deeper into the psychedelic future funk realm of which he has created for himself. the fruits of his discipline all add up to “electron don” hnr52 a 15-track collection of early productions that serves as the initial transmission of a fantastical mind that has many more stories to tell. “electron don” gathers together various unreleased and classic tracks recorded by zackey force funk circa 2009-2011 in tucson, az. included here are a treasure-trove of classic productions by the electron don himself, as well as tracks by luminaries salva, mike gao, lorn, jellphonic, cupp cave, crimekillz, mark lowe and paolo xz.

with the release of this set of remixes figure head len faki reveals previously unseen shades of both the source material and his own musical identity. produced over the course of last year and originally never intended to come out, the hidden objects were to remain just that – hidden from anyone but faki himself who was privately developing a different side of his in the studio.

damien lynch is a gentleman youve met in a past life. emerging with this debut, he steps nicely into a home at the esp institute. on side a, we‘re invited to the heights, a transcendent state where the negative space between the notes is equally as important as his lush instrumentation. damiens build-up of warm analogue machines twinkle and stab, leading way to a memorable hook, a squelching chord melody full of live nuance and energy. on side b, safe house plays out a similar theme in terms of arrangement, however, the ethereal space damien creates with the kalimba and driving arpeggios elevates us to an even higher plane, where his lead floats gracefully across the stereo spectrum, blanketing the fast-paced rhythms with a calming sense of purity. were serious when we say that these two songs will guide you toward enlightenment.

mosco fell asleep and awoke days later with red axes. this is their joint offering for the esp institute. dikembe manutu, the fictional character whos name gives title to our thumping a side, establishes a lush theme based on meandering steel drums and reverberating toms while a slew of rich percussion leads us through the jungle on a melodic galloping bassline. once this deep groove gets us rolling, were treated to a variety of twinklling melodies that float high above. on side b, rage in the cage is a true live drum machine jam, full of bleeps, detuned toms, abrasive cymbals, and plenty of left turns. we can only imagine the mood in the studio as these three old friends frantically smacked buttons and tweaked knobs, creating happy accidents and loving every menacing moment of chaos as they stirred this cauldron. these two songs will make you thirst for exotic nectars.

the energy and versatility were used to when reinier zonneveld takes the decks is immediately evident in his latest ep. opening preceedings with sharp bust, a straight and to the point trancy bassline leads the way. decked by mechanic stabs and hi-hats, the groove is simply hypnotic and relentless. rushchamber, on the other hand, bears a subversive groove, with a minimal and dark bassline. glitchy cut up vocals give an eerie feel, as the whole atmosphere becomes more and more immersive by the way of multi-layered drums. the final offering, flatchat is anything but flat. its intricate groove shares the dark and immersive territory of the previous track, while another set of cut up vocals draw instant attention. a descending lead padded with reverb and stabby synths, the last track rounds up the release, ending on a grave and intense note.

repress !! following 2013s fantastical heat crime, tim further explores his unique take on house music with two original tracks which make stylistic nods to the past but lead us elatedly to a place of uncommon and personal vision. on the a side we have squiggles, a late night piece of tentacled whimsy. a joyful frolic in a fishy stream under the stars and in the japanese garden of your soul. like u want me 2 is a missive from yearning loins to a beloved recipient, whilst were both on earth in these fleshy suits.

(the story) first, the ghost is born, acknowledged and captured: rain falling, airplane passing by, metal grinding, underwater impacts, birds in empty spaces or other sources of raw sounds combined to form a spectrum of emotions, a personality. then, the ghost is understood, carefully tamed, manipulated and controlled to become part of the host s identity by the pure continuity of the cerebral activity through the nervous system and the being itself. eventually the consciousness / awareness of the moment is integrated and the ghost becomes the experience. with house warming andy vaz returns with his 3rd full lenght album on his own yore imprint. due to andys half indian roots, he is lucky enough to owe a beach house just outside of mangaluru, south india in the state of karnataka. where most parts of the album were written over a period of 6 months.

time to welcome chrissy, a chicagoan dj, producer, edit-maker, blogger, sometime dance music historian and documenter and general hard-working mother f..ker (according to stool pigeon). the smart bar resident has had a string of top drawer releases on house labels such as classic, tugboat edits, razor n tape and hypercolour, not to mention his own brilliant nite owl diner label which he runs with alex burkat. chuck in releases for planet mu and running the juke/footwork label loose squares and you start to get the picture. this guy is a genre-bender extraordinaire and clearly a tireless and highly creative individual so were very proud to have him join us hear for his freerange debut

coeo are to toy tonics records, what master at work were to the house scene of the 1990ies: they bring the soul into the house. their new ep back in the days is a 4 track house stomper that could have been made in 1997 by guys like sneak, dimitri from paris or little louie. but still the similarities to the new berlin sample-house scene around max graef and hodini are evident, too. already their last years superhit native riddim (which is featured as a bonus track on this vinyl) included some heavy jazz samples they found in their parents bag of soul. native riddim has been no.1 in the traxsource charts for several weeks and was the basis for their already huge following. from laurent garnier to tensnake - the feedback has been awesome. now they proceed their way of souldful house. just good taste.

as mood ii swing, production duo lem springsteen and john ciafone became one of the most in-demand remixers in the late 90s. the duo s production career began modestly, however. after a failed attempt at r&b, the two turned to house music. early productions such as sylvano s * helpless* and wall of sound s *critical* were a step in the right direction, as were releases such as -i need a bitch- for cutting and -searchin - for groove on, but it was the duo s remixes of ultra naté s * free* for strictly rhythm that struck gold. the song became a huge hit and soon mood ii swing was remixing big-name producers like bt (-remember-) and king britt (* the reason*) as well as the next ultra naté single, * found a cure*, which also became a huge hit record around the world. then, as a testament to the duos success, the new york-based nervous have dug up the remixes mood ii swing did for the label during their seminal mid 90s period re mastered and re released on wax for 2016.

chicagos hackim murphy and the lovely daniela la luz from berlin teamed up for this vinyl only release on rawax! both deliver 2 tracks they made together and 2 tracks were done seperate - strong package!

immersed in the early days of the 90s midwest rave scene, bill converse began djing at a young age in lansing, michigan. luminaries such as claude young, traxx, and twonz were key early influences. since moving to texas in 1998, he has experimented with analog techniques in varied studio bunkers. early techno, noise, ambient, tape, and paranormal processing are all part of his uncanny sound palette.

the last few years has seen parris make a name for himself across a number of scenes, to the extent he is just as likely to be found spinning records for butterz as he is putting records out on berceuse heroique. here at idle hands we first touched base with parris many moons ago when he bought copies of the first release on his soundman chronicles label into our shop. as it is one of our favourite labels we were intrigued to hear what he would come up with as producer himself. needless to say we were impressed. presented here are two tracks that perfectly reflect his sound and our own a nod to techno here, a weighty bass line there, a love of reverb everywhere and all with a view to being played in dark rooms late at night. the 12 inch of burr and blue is idle hands last release of 2015 and we think it rounds off nicely what has been a great year for the label.

paul cottam was diagnosed with encephalomyelitis disseminata, or multiple sclerosis, just as his first records were released in 2009. the symptoms can come and go, one day you can feel ok and the next day a relapse can floor you.

in 1985 severed heads were asked to release a retrospective, so they dragged out bits lying around. the compilation was titled “clifford darling please don’t live in the past”, spread out into a montage over four sides of vinyl. this compilation includes live recordings, raw demos, unreleased studio recordings and solo pieces from each member of the band during from the first five years. the results are a striking hybrid of the avant-garde industrial and pop.

the ep features 7 short tracks that take cues from akira’s own japanese descendance contextualized in an urban saao paulo whilst also making nods to pop culture relevant to brasil at the time. tracks jump from genre to genre while leaving a thread that binds them together - the fact that every single one of these tracks sound like the background music to all those tv shows that were birthed around the peak midi era.

calvin harris debut album *i created disco* (2007) contained a handful of chartbusters. *acceptable in the 80s*, *colours*, *vegas*, *the girls* and *merrymaking at my place* were very successful in the european charts.

first time i heard this track out was d.jing with adrian gibson, booker/manager for the london jazz cafe in its hay day in the early 2000s, i thought it was some crazy obscusre early jacksons 45. i had no idea what it was but i liked it and it stuck with me. as my eyes were on 45 s at the time it passed me by until numero group reissued it on their fabulous soul messengers compilation (essential purchase if you don t own). after quite a bit of badgering rob sevier, co-owner of numero group, let this grace my format of choice, so here we are, both sides first outing as a single.

late night dweller todd modes can be found deejaying around detroit playing anything from offbeat ambient grooves to spaced out disco jams. he released the todd modes / bobby dolo ep on the cult underground label m1 sessions, and as cosmic handshakes with dial 81 they put out an ep called the delicate details . now he teams up with golf channel s own wild man mike severson from the psychedelic disco rock outfit heroes of the galleon trade. after a session one night, the two step out for a cold one and bump into burly biker bar bandit randy winter and the singer song writer sex visionary emily infinity. after a few drinks they invited them back to the studio and the vocals were set. put on your jean jacket slip on your leather boots and ready yourself for a night thrill ride. golf channel every time !

the 19th release of rue de plaisance is made by our french friends from berlin, arcarsenal. the duo, etienne and alan, have released on high calibre labels such as underground quality and finest hour and also run the excellent record shop in berlin. we were seduced by their unique and personal music and we are proud to release such a great ep which showcases their different sounds from ambient to techno. timeless music for your pleasure.

in 2015, two remixers on their respective thrones in techno and house were contacted to rework the classic. matador and shiba san both delivered compelling renditions that capture the original s darkness, paired with their unique styles of delivery.

dark entries digs deeper in to the archives of severed heads, one of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the australian post-punk independent music scene. they began in sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of ‘industrial’ noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. as the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. in 1986 the band released the 12” single “petrol” on nettwerk records. we’ve decided to shed light on the evolution of “petrol” with this ep showcasing four earlier incarnations of what became an instant synth pop classic.
