the supremes, the most commercially successful girl group in pop history, were one of the jewels in motown records artist stable. given wonderful material by motown s amazing songwriters, the group scored numerous number one pop hits, as did singer diana ross when she left the group and went solo, and motowns bright, modern, and uptown image as a label had a lot to do with the way these ladies gracefully and elegantly presented themselves and took over a song. two dozen of those number one hits, both as the supremes and as ross solo, are collected here, including the timeless classics *come see about me*, *you cant hurry love*, *you keep me hangin on* and *stop! in the name of love*. the album also features a bonus remix of *you keep me hangin on*.

having written the infectious theme song to the chicago party television series, we felt necessary to bring the pianist/composer into the foreground for his own proper two-parter. this very demo of -rush- made it into the hands of charles davis, who re-recorded the tune for a stray single on sutra records in 1982. included on ultra-high frequencies: the chicago party, -you bring me up- is completely unreleased and represents the pinnacle of early 80s r&b from chicago.

the soul notes imprint has never restricted itself to just one sound. ever since it emerged in late 2011, the basque county based outfit has shown several sides of its identity and has developed into a diverse and well balanced home. one of the labels usual suspects is cologne native, adryiano. after reaping some havoc with his efforts on the snx series early last year, adryiano has been crafting his down south ep (ironically) somewhere in the north rhine-westphalian concrete jungle. the down south ep is buldging with deep sine basses, fine rhythmic synthwork and lavish but hefty beats. the title track showcases these exact things best. the essence of adryiano s latest effort is still somewhat hard to pin down. a lot of different moods are going on throughout the ep while the overall sounds maintains it s own glance. from the deep machinefunk on down south to the broken beats of feel what you do. all of these bits have a nice theme to them.

the groove brothers, aka jef k and rhythm&soul, keep things moving with the second release on their fledgling label, on a mission records. it’s been seven months since the label’s debut, demonstrating the duo’s considered approach to their outlet, which has been set up to capture the true spirit of house music, basing its ideals on some of the industry’s most respected labels and keeping that timeless, classic ethos alive. this second release unites the label owners with a couple of newcomers to the scene. retaining the sultry outlook of the first release the groove brothers inject jazzy notes and smooth funky rhythms into their music, while mr ks and kub follow in a similar vein with their well-crafted contributions. ks expanding on the jazz theme, while kub takes a more sensual pathway. t c f is the moniker of norwegian contemporary artist and experimental computer musician lars holdhus. his work explores themes of code, cryptography and privacy through the use of visual, sonic, built and written concepts. often the titles and descriptions of his work are written in cyphertext, the key to which is hidden within the piece itself. his forthcoming release on liberation technologies will further this cryptographic theme, consisting of digital and physical content containing the necessary keys to unlock the full meaning of the work.

this e.p. sets out to honor to spring wherever and when it may happen. it arrived early for our location the year it was first created. *furuike ya - ancient pond* was the original title. this is taken from an ancient haiku by matsuo basho. the remix for *ancient pond* was created by jason drummond (aka dj spun) from rong music nyc. this rework of the original adds a funky twist to the beats and bass line. *electric sheep* is taken from the philip k dick book including this portion its title. the theme of this track hints on the nature of our creations and the future possibilities. this particular version contains only the 303 melodies/elements of the original, which is set to be released in the next ep to follow. pressing on transparent, blue colored vinyl.

an idea who’s time has clearly come, moon rock volume 1 struck a nerve upon release last spring. a collection of deeply atmospheric ambience, cosmic, and chillout techno, it was the opening salvo in a much longer-term effort by nyc-based throne of blood recordings to establish a platform for a diverse collection of friends and musical fellow travellers to explore composing music for folding time and exploring innerspace. now, just months after vol. 1 hit shelves, moon rock volume 2 is upon us…

operator, aka rich jones, returns for the third outing on his label, gnosis records, continuing the theme of elemental, hypnotic techno. the four tracks here range from the rolling, grungy, percussive heaviness of going there, to the melodic escapism of revolt on titan.title track dark circle, is a textured, hypnotic peak time groove, while grid 9 s quirky and tripped out synth textures provide the psychedelic flavours.

the structure and the essence of this release, focuses on a current argument in which more and more people in this society are found to be the early protagonists, often without even realizing it. the artist wants to tell and convey through his work, a point of view towards this theme. as can be deduced from the title of the ep, the project is to express and represent a war of colors, which fight the monotony of everyday, always flat and dark.
