bozzwell is a solo projekt of david boswell from sheffield, who has had remarkable hits with the all seein eye together with phil oakey from the human league in the nineties and latest as hiem together with his friend nicco eastwood a couple of years ago. after knowing and loving bozzy through buddy dirk leyers we released two 12inch with some of his brilliant stuff in 2008 and 2009. songs like marlenas eyes, fionas song and escape5 which are now also part of this cd-album. with the album are coming various other songs reflecting life in common and in sheffield. the cd is also including the track >i cant be< that we did in our studios together with bozzy and many firm artists joining and contributing.

>the voices< is the debut 12 inch from bobby and annie. drawing on their experiences as residents at the mint club, uk, the pair have crafted a versatile ep that sits as comfortably in a peak time set as it does on a hazy 6am dance floor. taken from a collection of vocal out-takes the voices have been cleverly obscured through various production techniques and layered around drums and old school analogue synth lines to unique effect. the results are two haunting, hypnotic, yet upbeat dj tools. the title track, >voices<, uses deftly interwoven vocal samples as the focus and driving hook. shuffled percussion takes a back seat amidst a discordant, attention-grabbing synth interlude that harks back to the playful garage sound of90s chicago house. the outcome is dramatic, intense and functional. on the b-side, >loose ends<, is a more rugged affair that gives the bass and drums centre stage. the vocals are pitched and trippily float in and out of the track whilst the familiar sound of fairlight stabs punctuate the groove. the effect is eerie, yet accessible, and rounds off this stunning ep.

the producer team solan yields an ideal division into compartments. when studio producer stefan klauck and dj denis reinhardt met in front of a mixing desk in 2007, it was an ideal combination of different experiences: the one who has produced various music styles from downbeat to electro, the other a dedicated follower of house who never wanted to hide his knack for soul and disco. the two of them soon found a common denominator.the project solan has by now crafted tracks which embrace the qualities of newer deep house productions and classical house music, that is reminiscent of a traditional u.s. sound.

pablo mandelbrot claims to be from bar harbor, maine on the north-eastern coast of the u.s.a. when asked about his upbringing he mentions various occupations including sardine canner and quota negotiator as well as hinting at some dark years spent working in the aqua-culture industry. about his music he says little, summing up his productions with the cryptic declaration: >disco is a deep sea<. we are not entirely sure where or when the two tracks on this 12inch were recorded and the only information from mandelbrot himself is that he has sometimes collaborated with the late conny plankton (who also engineered these two tracks), a legendary figure of the maine/nova scotia electronic music scene. pablo also insists that both tracks are >under exclusive license from lob-starr records<, although we have never heard of this label and their representatives have yet to contact us. we hope you enjoy these two slices of hypnoboogie disco, smoked, cured and de-boned for your convenience.

four years in the making, analog africa finally presents the second volume of africas funkiest band, the mythical orchestre poly rythmo de cotonou. volume one (the vodoun effect - funk & sato from benins obscure labels, 1973 - 1975), released by analog africa at the end of 2008, was a collection of amazing lo fi recordings produced for various labels around benin. volume two showcases superbly recorded tracks, courtesy of the emi studios in lagos, nigeria, one of the best studios in the region. all tracks here were recorded for the mighty albarika store label and its enigmatic producer, adissa seidou.

the spaniard manuel fernandez llorente had a classical musical upbringing, studying at the music conservatorium in madrid. he has been composing and producing electronic music since 1996, not only releasing on his own label >7noise< but more importantly also being licensed for various major compilations. now he is releasing his first tracks on highgrade records. at first, >addiction< unspectacularly plods on towards house heaven, but then the sparse vocals and timeless organ sounds give you a warm and soft electro shock. the first track on the b side >the gull< shows off prompts talents as a composer. a very discreet melody blankets the straight beat, taking away the coldness of the bass. a beautiful dream track that should never really end. >mechanic< brings it home and is right in your face, a journey into minimal techno country, where you meet the sound ghosts that prompt has summoned. a single drum beat here, a voice there and a now and again a sound shred that are all meticulously arranged to make the perfect atmosphere.
