this june session victim returned to delusions of grandeur imprint with their third studio album. listen to your heart is the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in san francisco’s room g studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 lp see you when you get there. here we present the third of three lp samplers containing four tracks each, cut nice and loud for the vinyl crew.

holy smokes batman! brand new label straight outta mcr here as esteemed clubnight house of wax launches a new, vinyl only imprint entitled jupiter s melody. what a coup for this debut release - the drop are a london based, 9-piece reggae band operating since 2009 and with a soundsystem informed mentality. fitting then that soundsystem operative, ukg legend and accalaimed bass music progressor djrum is enlisted on remix duties to take these uk reggae skankers into the club for some grooving 2-step business. felix manuel has a storied history across uk dance music, most notably through releases on the iconic 2nd drop records and a much lauded resident advisor mix. -looking to the sky- is that festival burner you wish you d have packed for the summer just gone. gliding in on waves of undulating bass, punctuated by a typical but none less arresting 2-step beat, the rastaman vox from the drop fit so well you won t actually believe it s a remix! deep, emotive and beautifully poised, its retroist in many ways but this only adds to the warm and welcoming nature of the track. the flip is more introspective, and in someways melancholic, but with a massively uplifted message. again, taken from a completely different og piece (check youtube for the drop s original vid), the vocal sits perfectly in another crisp and frenetic take on the ukg beat. this side builds slowly, with a defined song structure and lush musicality, never quite climaxing but simmering gently with a mindful glow. appearing out of nowhere and instantly having us climbing over each other to see what was playing, we expect this to be a big smash here in manchester over the coming months. if you ve felt something missing in your life since mj cole, zed bias and todd edwards last released summat, then you could do much worse than adding this to your collection! limited copies so get those orders in quick folks...

on his third outing with la vinyl imprint into the woods, producer / selector jimmy maheras fuses the sounds of detroit and los angeles together for a release that continues in the spirit of warehouse inspired techno, house, and electro that germinates from his monthly into the woods party series hosted with mor elian.
the title track, “the odyssey of flight 33,” bubbles up with dubbed chords and stabs that float and wobble over a clap and tom ride fit for 3am. “nightsong” follows the formula in spirit but percolates with punchy drums and stabs. finishing out the release is a full bodied basic soul unit remix of “odyssey” that beefs up and pitches down the chords and drives a heavy rhythm into a wall of sound tinged with hypnotic dystopia.

for their second release on the label, dgtl records asked another one of its festival shows regulars: fort romeau. after playing at three different dgtl editions, and an upcoming fourth during ade, the organization also wanted to propagate his sound with an ep on their imprint. the release consists of two multi-layered compositions, untitled ii and a familiar place, and will be available on the 13th of october.

somne debuts on just this. the italian producer, whose real name is federico maccherone, presents his first release of 2017 – a solo ep marrying the same ethereal, wide-angle synthesis and intricate drum programming that appears on standout work for boddika’s nonplus imprint and the afterlife label. more than ever, maccherone shows his range – rolling, meditative recordings sit comfortably alongside some more overtly dance floor material, with both approaches bound by the same high-end production values listeners and dj’s alike have come to expect from the somne project. in various ways, the ep offers a certain degree of insight into maccherone’s dual identity as a producer of both clinical, dance-floor fare as well as a cerebral, leftfield work – and in turn, how the artist draws together these two strands of creative endeavour to craft unique and profoundly emotive electronic music. nods to classic idm and ambient sit at the periphery of the recordings, although the main focus is on the propulsive, contemporary techno derivatives – from warping, half-time opener divided love, with its crisp, white noise washes and clinical use of distortion – through to endgame’s exacting, peak-time drive. and whilst the form shifts across the ep from half-time, polyrhythmic work to more direct 4x4 compositions – everything remains bound by the same exquisite, otherworldly atmosphere that touches on the grandiose whilst maintaining a gloriously introspective bent.

already big support by oscar mulero, shifted, blawan, jonas kopp, andre kronert and more. in what is already his sixth release on his own angls imprint, dimi angelis unveils his love for loopy, noisey techno. first drop vector shift skips the pleasantries and gets right down to it, fusing gritty saws and a rumbling bassline with ominous industrial stabs. on the flipside dislocated stays with the program, but opts for a slightly deeper approach, riding on an unrelenting hihat. follow-up and final track triplicity closes it down in style, sounding almost like some of the machines hardwired themselves. straight-up bangers, all three of them.

finally a fresh mcde is announced! new one from long time deep house/broken producer, pablo valentino... . its been four years since label co-founder pablo valentino became a daddy, and almost as old is the idea of him releasing a record on our imprint. so what makes more sense than to dedicate this record to hugo-joão, his son? on -my son s smile- we can hear a recording of hugo-joão s laughter over a mellow, summery house track that has been a big favorite of danilo over the years. with a little help from lyon producer patchworks, who played bass on the track, valentino pulls off one of his most sophisticated productions yet.

kon’s masterful arrangement highlights the desirous pleas of lead vocalist lynn davis while showcasing the very ahead of its time instrumentation (there are even hints of larry heard to be heard here) of mr. duke’s musical masterpiece. carefully breaking down and building up the arrangement, kon even pulls out previously unheard vocal gems from george duke himself hidden in the original stems giving the listener a glimpse of the studio vibe during its recording. this release also boasts the original version taken directly from the studio masters of the highly sought after 12”. all in all floor stomping disco magic from one of the world’s best remixers further sonically enhanced by boston native caserta on the mix.

antique fragments ep is the third release of our kommuna tapes imprint. the a side starts with a quirky fast-paced track created by a mysterious producer named schematix in 1997. thinktank, an electro/breakbeat act who signed his first and unique ep only a few years later in 2000, takes us on a punchy yet dreamy techno journey. on the flip side, after schematix undusted his hardware to extract the stems for the occasion, wizard sergio moreira mastered the challenge of creating a slower and deeper version of the track, while upcoming madrid talent javier moreno closes the release with a bouncy acid burner. track by track, we build a kommuna of artists who share our insatiable appetite for music discovery, guided by a certain vision of the dancefloor: deep stripped-down grooves, sometimes challenging, always with character.

nicolas bougaïeff presents his new ep on seminal british imprint novamute. as a producer he harbours a diverse musical background, having studied in a conservatoire setting whilst foraying into anti-authoritarian rave culture. he is also a respected lecturer, regularly teaching masterclasses in composition and speaking at global events such as mutek and ableton loop – the results of which come to life in the inquisitive spirit of his productions. cognitive resonance explores elements of acid, gabber and techno through a compositional lens, drawing on the artist’s love for avant-garde forms and long-standing relationship with the electronic music community. the title track lays out long, expansive phrases and warped crescendos to create a disorienting structure, whilst distant harmonies, distorted kick drums and shattering effects merge into a hypnotic form on ‘truthful hyperbole’. lastly, ‘fake news’ mangles our sense of rhythmic familiarity, disrupting the 4/4 beat with a complex metre and sinister melody. listen to the title track here. nicolas will follow this release with an album on his own denkfrabik label, ‘principles of newspeak’ is due out on the 24th of november. this is novamute’s first release since motor (bryan black and oly grasset) over ten years ago. the label, a subsidiary of mute (depeche mode, goldfrapp, new order, liars, erasure, moby), began in 1992 as a response to the growing demand for techno releases in the uk. originally presenting white labels and imports, novamute went on to release records by plastikman, speedy j, juan atkins, luke slater and joey beltram to name a few, as well as forging invaluable links with labels such as tresor and probe, which allowed them to license rare tracks for a wider audience. forthcoming releases on novamute will include eps from terence fixmer and charlotte de witte.

in a new transatlantic partnership, uk label secret reels and washington, dc imprint better listen records have teamed up for a run of collaborative records. the joint brand, secret listen, combines the labels in sound as well as in name. imagine the lush, pensive and moody deep house tones of secret reels joining with the sample-heavy disco soul leanings of blr. secret listen vol. 1 takes two artists each from both rosters for the first amalgamation. the -secret side- hosting english producers harry wolfman and chocky, while the listen side invites sune and vitamin d of high hat appreciation society and the newly founded honey butter records to the affair. it s a v/a release with a variety of offerings and flavours. wolfmans floozy sits first in the record as a bright and whimsical flute-led morsel, while chockys inner disco is a cerebral, loopy cut. on the flip, sune provides some exquisite rhodes action in his groovy midtempo effort, glidin, and his swedish compatriot closes out the affair with the bittersweet lately.

visionquest special edition returns this september with sakro s supersymmetry ep. edgardo alonso aka mexican producer and dj sakro has been rising up the ranks over the past few years with his raw, stripped-back approach to house seeing him release material with revered imprints in the field such as raum...musik, housewax, karlovak and fathers & sons. here we see the sakro joining the roster of visionquest offshoot special edition, the vinyl only imprint home to material from ricardo villalobos, craig richards, wareika and konrad black amongst others. up first on the package is lusyd , a shuffling percussion fuelled number featuring swinging snares, murky atmospheric pads and choppy sub bass hits at its core. jazz in mars follows embracing robust rhythms and an amalgamation of jazzy sample snippets alongside resonant synth swells to create a sturdy peak time workout. voices opens the b-side of the release with heavily swung drums, smooth ethereal chords and lumpy sub frequencies while a dark and brooding vocal ebbs and flows throughout the composition. title-cut supersymmetry then closes out the release with an energetic rhythmic drive, intricately modulating synth flutters and snaking pad lines.
