with his fourth outing on into the woods recordings, maheras delivers “tartessos,” a nod to his roots in greece and a journey into dancefloor dub that continues into the woods’ tradition for moody and effective dancefloor tools.
“tartessos” sets the mood of this ep with risers and chord stabs that delay across a four to the floor bass line and kick pattern. maheras allows the reverb space to build here here, creating atmosphere that builds slowly until the chords drop halfway through and bring an ethereal mood to a peak.
on the flip roman flugel delivers an outstanding remix that doubles down on the delays and pushes into more traditional dub tech territory. flugel divides and multiplies musical elements across a live mixing desk, through effects chains and back to a mix that maintains the momentum of the original rhythm but amplifies the flutters and flourishes.
on his third outing with la vinyl imprint into the woods, producer / selector jimmy maheras fuses the sounds of detroit and los angeles together for a release that continues in the spirit of warehouse inspired techno, house, and electro that germinates from his monthly into the woods party series hosted with mor elian.
the title track, “the odyssey of flight 33,” bubbles up with dubbed chords and stabs that float and wobble over a clap and tom ride fit for 3am. “nightsong” follows the formula in spirit but percolates with punchy drums and stabs. finishing out the release is a full bodied basic soul unit remix of “odyssey” that beefs up and pitches down the chords and drives a heavy rhythm into a wall of sound tinged with hypnotic dystopia.
eyetone returns with 005 which deviates away from the exploratory vibes probed in the previous release which was well received and instead shifts right back with intent for the dance floor. an ep which is very much a greek affair, featuring two deep, dubby cuts from la based greek producer maheras and a special extended techno piece by newcomer to the scene artemis soy. maheras sound spits a hybrid of sounds that range from dark techno, groovy disco and soulful house. expanding his personal style by working under new aliases with talented vocalists and collaborating in projects such as cazion and plastic love, maheras continues to explore the vast sphere of electronic music without any limits.
hailing from sunny los angeles, plastic love records kicks off our first release with an ep from label co-boss jimmy maheras. maheras made his debut in 2011 with his space jam ep on the crosstown rebels edit sub-label, rebellion. since then he s released remixes and singles on strainjjur, riff raff, supernature, and left d. maheras s two original tracks showcase his depth with the man from another place being squarely aimed at the big room dance floor and the second track, arecibo, bringing a little kraftwerkesque funk. we ve commissioned timothy j fairplay (crimes of the future) and cottam (aus music / ruff draft) for two very unique remixes. fairplay crunches down the original melody and throws it over the famed amen break to give tmfap a hands in air late night feel while cottam s remix brings the dreamy melody closer to acid with storming late night kick ready to knock down a wall.
the forth release on the rebellion label comes courtesy of la based dj and producer jimmy maheras. space jam is a sonic homage to some of his heroes in this tripped and stripped out slice of groovy tech house with a monster of matt tolfrey remix… watch out for that bassline! championed in the rebels camp amongst damian lazarus, clive henry and seth troxler this cheeky release is destined for big things this summer in the med!
plastic love welcomes fellow angeleno michael walsh on board for the 2nd release on their budding label. walsh s debut ep showcases the producer s breadth and depth of all things rave with two distinct tracks aimed squarely at the dancefloor. before when it was new s unmistakeable melody act as a call to the dancefloor while a rumbling bassline underneath keeps you locked into a groove. strobe lights arpeggiated bassline and snappy disco drums showcase how versatile walsh can be. remixes come courtesy of label co-boss maheras as well as caravan boss and aus music stalwart dj october
