ten months after vidabs last output, we are back with the debut solo release of our good friend tomas svensson. some may know him as a half of berlin duo subbroomassociation, or as the former live drummer of >schulz & söhne<. tomas started his interest in techno/house during his studies of jazz drums and piano at the udk in berlin, and ended up building his own studio to realize his vision of sound using mostly analog equipment. the swedish native delivers here two tracks that fit perfect the mood of his home country with its huge forests, clear lakes, and wide landscapes. swedish techno with with a detroit soul. enjoy!

brooklyn based madteo returns to meakusma after his critically acclaimed >sinister ministers< 10inch released on the label in spring 2009. his signature stylistic approach still borders on deep, ambivalent and engaging house music and hiphop influences. the five tracks here are some of the strongest material he has produced, with basslines, melodies and moods shifting in and out of focus all the time and once again setting a rough yet subtle mood. the >bangin on the ceiling< track features a new collaboration with hiphop legend sensational. for fans of deep and different club-oriented music.

from the very outset, the m.c.d.e. remix of shit robots >answering machine< picks up in a completely different realm from marcus lambkins original, which appears on his 2010 debut, from the cradle to the rave. the stuttgart-based producer has replaced janine >planningtorock< rostrons slowly rising vocal opener with outerspace emanations that fade as they drift into a constellation of wide house grooves and deep bass. rostrons own pizzo remix is up next, and in (a)typical fashion, she takes the song and shifts its mood by clearing away the dancier elements of its predecessor in favor of a foundation of strings in every form: plucked pizzicato notes, low cellos tones, and high pitched violins that flit through. last up is another rostron creation, the whisper remix, which actually outpaces lambkins version in bpm, but is lighter all the same. here, she uses synths almost as a wash of white noise – a whisper, if you will – and only drops heavier vocals here and there along the songs rustling path.

1 track each from area, hakim murphy, and murdoc, + bonus remix. the 2 on a lean more toward the stoner side, the b is all murdoc focusing more on the beats. the past year has seen area dropping solo records for francois ks wave music, anton zaps ethereal sound, and brendon moellers steadfast recordings. with songs described as >guaranteed to create a special mood in a club< (resident advisor) and >warm, shoegaze-dreamy but floor-ready pop< (little white earbuds), areas heady productions tread the line between functionality and abstraction. hakim is a producer/dj from the chicagoland area whos musical style ranges from house to techno. hakims journey begin as a dancer in chicago as a lot of his musical influences come from larry heard, robert armani, dance mania, relief, and cajual records. as a chicago footwork dancer, hakim gradually became inspired by the music and began playing records in 1996. since then hakim has ventured into production work and eventually founded two records labels in 2008: machining dreams, and synapsis records with avondale music society. hakims discography includes releases on metamorphic, planet detroit, and stolen kisses. murdoc is a dj/producer and current member of the condiment dj-collective, hosting events featuring the likes of acid circus, sammy dee (perlon), and mark henning.

mr raoul k and baobab secret take the next step and put out new remixes of >le karantkatrieme peul<. prisme are a belgian duo (nicolas pepinster and yves theys) who started to produce their own material in 2010. they liked the title track so much that they remixed it and sent the result to mr raoul k who instantly fell in love with the melodic and laid back approach they took on it. this lush piece makes a perfect entry into a long night out, promising that every piece will fall into place. the other production crew featured on this release are the iklawa brothers (mzwandile nxasana and sandile magwaza) who run their own label in durban, south africa. they are big fans of mr raoul ks work and have been dropping his tunes in their sets on a regular basis. their remix is a dark, afrobeat driven tune that takes the listener on a long trip into a gloomy world full of surprising musical twists, dramatic changes of mood and impressing string sounds. the last remix is done by mr raoul k himself. he shows a new side of his musical skills. resulting in an epic track that seems to dance on tiptoes around a giant beast. one small step. hesitate. check carefully what happens. do not disturb. just watch in astonishment how it slowly awakes and stretches out to its full glory. a track that is full of hope, but reminds us to keep our feet to the ground to provide a solid stand.

label boss solomun delivers the soulful summernight jam -see you everyday alone-, that has a captivating bassline and a groove that makes you sweat. epic strings and sounds of thunder and rain are leading into deep breakdowns with a dark touch. although the track has a immediate effect the dancefloor, it will linger on in your head for a long time. stimmings contribution to this ep is -challenge the air- featuring the soft vocal and bass of david stoltzenberg. its a very atmospheric and intimate track. layered guitars and baselines combined with stimmings signature groove account for a warm organic mood. the echoing vocal phrases underline the floating structure which gives a hypnotic touch. although the track features a typical stimming sound and has enough power to entertain the dancefloor, its is definitely one of stimmings more personal and emotive works

te next release on double standard is the sonic love child of deniz kurtel, guti and gadi mizrahi. conceived at the dawn of a new year inside the marcy hotel, brooklyn, the way i feel ep- is slow, instinctive mood music, beautiful in its simplicity. floating on a lazy groove, title track the way i feel- sounds like the haze of being in love. intimate, sexy and deep, the sultry voice of a lover caresses layers of spaced- out beats drifting through low-key piano notes, distorted and interlaced with the woozy bassline. flip over to the b-side and the vibe of -3am- is muddier and full of eerie, echoing keys and disembodied vocals. with a bassline raw and impulsive, -3am- is the late night counterpart to the early morning bliss of the a-side. fluid in motion, light traces of techno slowly filter though the loose percussive rolls in spontaneous unison. as an integral member of the wolf + lamb crew and one-time resident at the label-s creative source –the marcy, deniz kurtel has since evolved into one of house music-s most exciting producers, releasing her dazzling debut album on crosstown rebels earlier this year. dynamic argentinian producer guti is known for his grooving, latin-inspired techno on labels such as desolat and supplement facts but this ep-s trip into more languid territory is a pure expression of the accomplished jazz pianist-s affinity for experimentation. through his intuitive operations, wolf + lamb and double standard label boss gadi mizrahi has given a home to a variety of deeper sounds filtered through an alternative vision for house music. -the way i feel ep- is double standard at its unadulterated, sensual best.

the latest release from joakims tigersushi record label sees the deadstocks 33s collaborating with stopmakingme for an ep of 4 lush, sometimes balearic sounding slabs of proto house dance music. straight off the back of crackboys ep, and joakims debut single from the new album, >gravity< compounds the summer mood of dance music, joining the ranks of artist gatto fritto and soulclap.

>mr guy< is a lovely slice of lovers rock and somewhat overlooked when released in 1980 but it has become a firm favourite with us here at bristol archive. >pretty girl< finds roots singer joshua moses showing his softer side, it was something of a hit on the original release and makes a natural pairing with sharons tune.
both tracks were originally released as singles on bristol label shoc-wave records some thirty years ago and were given their first digital release with their well deserved inclusion on >the bristol reggae explosion 1978 ¹ 1983<. >mr guy< also made it onto the limited vinyl version of the album, but running time constraints meant there was no room for >pretty girl< something we a very pleased to rectify with this vinyl release.

did you ever hear about christian strobe? no? hardly surprising, cause its a brand new solo-project by christian schnall, one half of disco trash music (maximal electro) and spruce (dreamy shoegaze). the german guy is musically rooted in the 80ies and early 90ies and as christian strobe, he combines airy new wave pop, retro-futurism with a pinch of house. the original mix of >midnight call< is full of magic, desire and an airy atmosphere, but still a simple pop song. the nightdrive version is recommended for nightly rides with your ferrari testarossa through big city lights. the italo-disco-pop-masters from codebreaker gives the original a funky french taste and reknowned keenhouse conjured a good-feeling remix with lovley summer-piano-chords. midnight call? you could name it sunshine call! in a more and more digital environment, the warmth of the analog vhs-tape version gives you the relaxing mood you need. the placid >lonesome astronaut< completed the debut-ep and takes you to a cosmic trip though time and space. stay tuned for the upcoming full-length album called >heartworks< in autumn 2011.

morning caffeine is the debut release by poker flats martin landsky on mobilee that we have all been waiting for! as a poker flat artist with huge success to his name for various remixes, he boasts a discography that reads like a guide through electronic musics hottest sounds. always refusing to be pigeonhold, landsky continuously embraces different paths and once again hes brought something new to the table. title track morning caffeine (main mix) kick starts the ep with both a dark and uplifting mood as a slightly twisted loop continues to build throughout the track, never really culminating but carrying on inescapably, whilst in contrast the organ dub version offers a much lighter and bouncier atmosphere. aint nobodys is the pleasant surprise of the ep, once again demonstrating landkys musical diversity and serving up really special warm dreamy vibes

and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. open air 2011 !!! this is definitely a serious movie, but in this case quite large. the swiss cowboy mario zar returns with his second ep on leutral the soundtrack to the movie the ocean plant. give the way he has managed to human emotions amid societal cold again, has something very enchanting. the very first track is the title theme from the film of the same. open air heartbreaking mood with an incredible catchy tune. finally one has the feeling again - that it is - the ultimate track - summer sun sunshine - large movies 2011 - 30 degree in the shade - and then this track. martin brunner has made a realistic study and there is the typical brunner sound with 3d effects and full speed ahead. in the film, two water plants are fighting for a piece of land on the ocean floor. they also use modified shiruken. the special feature is the integrated facebook app that posts the current status of the strikes. but otherwise the film is bursting with new-fashioned bio-weapons. a high-level cold saw turns the two water plants and over again in his way. at the end of the film, the two water plants enthusiasts. what they have experienced before you can watch and listen in this awesome movie. now playing in your cinema worldwide!

from his roots in early italo disco , a sound that inspired him since his childhood, this mysterious producer comes out with a genuine gem of pure balearic and disco mood, among the use of real hardware and various instruments creating this classic extended disco version that sounds in an actual disco edit style, even if the song is brand new. leading the voice is the huge, a magical voice and multi instrumentalist from italy: the combo between the two is explosive, mellow and at the same time light and pure. then the remix by melchior sultana, famous for his collaboration with owen jay on jus eds label (underground quality), creates a magical and elegant slow tempo version, chilled and funk at the same time, with a totaly new mood and some real rhodes and guitar played and sequenced in an akai mpc sampler. last the house electro disco dont play minimal, play minigolf, that follows a hypnotic mood bass synth, accomplished with ethereal chords and a super funky trumpet, sampled directly from will powers masterpiece of the early 80s…. ta ta taaa

here comes the eighth release in the line, pressure cooked by christian wunsch. three slices of fine modern techno, but with strong roots on tradition. buried mistakes opens fire with clean drum programming and punchy beats. spacey arpeggios and subtle drones are the makings of this movie. on the flip side, complete surrender uses similar rhythm coordinates, clean percussion sounds programmed with extreme taste, constantly evolving until the strings come in, creating a sci-fi futuristic mood, perfect for techno travellers. inevitable war is the last piece slower tempo, intelligent drone work out, dark atmospheres lying on a single kick, growing to make a complex beat as the minutes go on. they call it deep techno out there. a departure from the hard edged sounds on behalf of a mental way of understanding techno.

cascabel gentz is an ambitious side project of two producers who are always on the run - los angeles resident apendics.shuffle and dilo from buenos aires. since 2009 they get together in the studio and create an individual mix of house, techno and minimal spiced with their own vocals and guitar riffs. this very personal and organic mood reflects on the new record >electric high<. the original tracks are complemented by an excessive remix collection. gurtz and alejandro mosso play their part to make this ep a prime example for todays music culture network.
