jin choi is a musician, producer, dj and live artist based in berlin, germany. equally focused on groove and melodic structures, his music fuses electronic and naturalistic sounds to move the head and body. once coined modern minimal, chois productions are equal parts emotion, melody and rhythm. full range is his first release on serialism records. in a recent interview, choi described himself as a burial loving music-nerd who is simply trying to create his own musical language. he has released on lessizmore, contexterrior, romanphoto & archipel, to name a few. for ser10, he joins forces with maceo plex (aka maetrik, the moniker he saves for his darker techno productions) to do just that. most known for his recent revered deep-house single, vibe your love on crosstown, plex makes the release the perfect late-night tool. first up is full range, a dubby tech-house number with ominous and increasingly glitchy repetitive vocals that remind the listener of what choi seems to already know - music is the universal language, music is no longer irrelevant. next, half baked, the eps star, manages to perfectly fuse industrial sounds with melody making a blissed-out, deep- house track. mysterious squeaks, hisses and factorial inner workings provide the backdrop while warm time-stretched freestyle vocals guide us through the production. maceos deep remix is around 9-minutes of chicago house inspired sounds layered with snappy high hats and emotive chords.

two tracks from alden tyrell which he played in his live sets a couple of times. produced without the intention to release them or do anything with it beside using them a few times in his sets. however after we played the tracks from cdr we just needed to get them on vinyl! so here they are... two basic chicago house trax ready to be played out loud!

for more than a year, third ear and benjamin have been selecting tracks for this ep and for an album to follow later in the year. the wait was largely due to the track no kicks, which initially used a chuck d acapella, titled no. when third ear couldn?t get clearance for the acapella, we suggested to benjamin that we try and think of another poet/rapper who could produce an original lyric inspired by chuck d?s flow. after some thought we suggested diamondancer, who was inspired to write the lyric she performs here. stay hungry stay foolish and acidic sun are delicious and dreamy, with a fat pulsing groove. hello ammmerika is more urgent, pushing the groove constantly.

continuing on the passenger 140 bass quest we have a new signing to the label but certainly not new to the scene by any means! 601 has been bashing out the breakbeat / jungle hybrid for a while now and is one reason why passenger and label owners aquasky are revitalised by the scene.

onwards and upwards for the section8 clan as they get ready to deliver possibly their biggest release to date with a mighty, thunderous dubstep assault from one of bristols brightest up & coming production duos, dodge & fuski. having built up quite a reputation already with some killer releases on labels such as never say die and rat, this one looks set to earn them even more attention, get ready for the sound system bangers! ethereal pads open up aerophobia before an epic, grandiose synth enters the mix to set the scene for whats to come and youd better be ready because its quite simply, sick! watch the dance go crazy as we kick into an absolutley heinous bass riff that grabs by the throat and doesnt let go with a smashing break holding it all together. it only goes on to get even better with a totally funked up 4/4 switch up too! more bassline manipulation ensues and the dubstep break returns to complete whats sure to be a massive club anthem. a lot of fun. onto the flip and the tranced-out intro vibe continues with another awe-inpsiring arrangement of twinkling synths and fx on fuckem all. though the ravers are gonna love it and thats really what this is all about. bangin!

jichael mackson is back and presents 3 masterpieces on stock5. nobody knows like him to flow between dub, techno and electronica and all this in just one track. well, here are three of them. pure live sessions, music created right in the moment, surely with little chips n cracks but thats what makes this music charming, so less digital and previsible.

the ep opens with >hypnotic bass<, a track with a very groovy gnaoua rythm. the sound of the guembri gives the production a very warm sensation. next up is >deep medina<, the title track. a real journey, the vocals are strong while sidi mohammeds lute elicits shivers. the melody manages to sound traditional while modern at the same time. >for hou!!!<, the closing track, philip bader perfectly works the acoustic samples, resulting in a characteristically berlin minimal sound. the kick and the bass are very heavy.

steve lorenz is the guy you will have to look for in the next months. he works around many musical influences. the first track >overclock< evolves into fat basses, bursted kicks & percussions. >overclock< remix, operated by damon wild international acclaimed and legendary synewave boss label (joe beltram/ jeff mills / adam beyer…,), results in an energic deeper techno, mental beats & dubby influences, a mind blast! the track >viraga< keeps the finest line. industrial noises & subliminal female voices are twisting in speakers & surely ll keep your head! close your eyes & start the journey. closing the race, >viraga< remix was realized by narrow friend kane roth (smallroom / lessismore), south french producer who recently moved to berlin. her production means well being quality, there is no coincidence if she has been remixed by maetrik & monoloc some months ago. keeping essential elements of the original viraga , she dropped a muscle main floor edit! hands up!

open the curtain for the next trick from the highgrade disharmonic orchestra: for the last year the team have been busy refuting the notion that the dj is a one-man-band in the booth… tom clark, todd bodine, philip bader, dale and daniel dreier are an act that combines all their many and varied qualities into one pot, stirring vigorously and serving up a hearty dish that goes straight to the hips! they have proven many times with their live performance that the musical ingredients are just right – and have also put the evidence on the record with an original ep. now comes the follow up. the first track way too far, is a live recording which evokes an atmosphere of urban beats and pulsating flashes just behind the eyes and a dancing crowd who appear to sink deep into the dance floor. then theres a complete chance of scene for the second track the other night, that appears to hijack the veranda of a villa in the american south. crisp rhythms are backed by muffled thumping beats, a trumpet laments, a sexy sleep-talking emerges in gentle piano sounds. this is southern passion under the disco ball, cleverly approximated by the highgrade disharmonic orchestra

and here it is: the second vinyl ep of niko schwinds album >good morning midnight<. it features some of the unique tracks that niko has created together with some of berlins hottest production talents. on the a side are two tracks that feature the clicky tech-house boys that are channel x, where things kick off with >back from the bar<. it sounds as the title suggests: a little wobbly, a little drunk, a little crazy, but also pretty magic. quite clearly this is an homage to one of berlins not-to-be-forgotten clubs that is unfortunately history now. but things continue on here at least with >dont turn the lights on<, a more straightforward dancefloor track, with a trumpet as the main protagonist. this is one of those tracks that keeps leading up to a real arms-in-the-air-moment if it wasn’t so damn housy at the same time. on the flip the magical connection between niko and label daddy oliver koletzki can be heard on >master of ceremony<, a chopped-up house track with epic dimensions. when things get to the piano breakdown, they get very musical and colossal before dropping back into a great house track. the stark contrast between the piano melody and the groove on this really make it. last but not least then, the original album opener >good morning< that features the singing of fran. it works great as a great album opener, but also perfectly as a slower and more thoughtful addition to a great ep
