on the flip we have brian protheroes >pinball<. a lost psychedelic pop classic which got to number 22 in the charts in 1974. a staunch ashley beedle fave with his tripped reworking doing exactly what i says on the tin. dubbed, stretched, spaced out and arranged to perfection. great!

terry lee brown junior is back on plastic city with his new 3 track single >baltimore<. here we have two great remixes and one original dub version. on the a-side is the pumping bas amro remix. its a little bit techy and would rock every dancefloor at the maintime! the b1-track is the aki bergen remix and it sounds more minimal than the other ones. also we have here more elements from the original included! for the last is the b2-track. its the dub mix of the original with less vocals and a straighter beat programming. the productions are very accurate, the interplay of moods, sounds and emotions is functional and sexy, very concidered and perfectly restaged. terry lee brown junior make the next step right back into the clubs. perfect!

15 years have passed since alex cortex began to create his own vision of electronic music - timeless and beyond trends, without a buzz or hype, steadily winning the following of djs and home-listeners, collectors and critics worldwide. his style can be described as unpredictable to a certain point, while maintaining high aesthetic standards. playful with quotes and references, always low-key and focused on psychedelic immersion into sound that shifts the attention from the artist to the music. kihon is a very personal effort, as suggested by the self-portrait on the cover that puts ear, eye, and mouth -reception and production- into context. the carefully elaborated design of this gatefold double lp speaks as a whole and in true minimalist fashion about the passing of time, without ever declaring nostalgia to be a means for itself. this also reflects in the music. alex cortex evades large gestures and obvious quotes, but is certainly conscious of locating his album within a framework of references to other works of electronic music that are important for his own musical evolution. in 11 nameless tracks, kihon takes us on a journey through organic worlds of sound that invites us to flow with the music and connect with the feelings contained in it. the title kihon that relates to japanese martial arts translates to basics or fundamentals, the training of which does not even cease when reaching master grades. those basics that are passed on beyond time are also the foundation of this album. by concentrating on the bare essentials, the music begins to speak, turning the album into a harmonic whole. kihon therefore is also a return to listening, away from a utilitarian perception of music as a background sound. this does not mean it would not work perfectly well in a club context -in the right hands it indeed does- but more notably, kihon is a work of art worth your attention and destined to stand the test of time

south of croydon raised christian sibthorpe (aka a1 bassline) sent over a few things over the last 12 months that really had me paying attention. but it was jessica (j. phlip) ended up being the first one to drop falsehood at the spring dirtybird party in sf which pretty much sealed the deal. it just smashed the room to bits. later on i met christian in person when he helped me do a live radio show at rinse fm in london along with ben westbeech and we agreed there that dirtybird would put these two tracks out.a1 claims to have been heavily influenced by early metalheadz and you can really here it on these tunes. while buoyancy is a smooth pulsing affair that really shines in the deeper mixes, falsehood (which we are re-releasing from a1s tighten up label) really buries the hatched in your brain with bits and pieces of 808s, breaks and house hi-hats all forged together like hot iron.

the first release on sighas own our circula sound imprint sees the hotflush artist shrug off the dubstep tag altogether with a 12 inch of dark dubbed out techno. marcel dettmanns remix of sighas own >early morning lights< sits on the a side. taking things deeper than one would typically expect, dettmann marries his own sound palette with that of the original perfectly. clocking in around the 130bpm mark, its mutating broken rhythms and throbbing bottom end will appeal to more adventurous dubstep heads as well as the techno purists. sighas eyes down old school tinged >over the edge< sits on the b side. clicks, claps and 909 hats roll over a layer of shifting dubbed out soundscapes and booming square bass.

the sixth release on the excellent parisian imprint my love is underground comes from inner sense - aka french producer henri fontaine - who serves up only his second ever solo release (his first was back in 2006!) sprawled across the a-side you will find >lowdown<, a jam that brings to mind the output of new york house dons masters at work (indeed look closely at the centre of this record and you will see the totally appropriate inscribing >1993 forever<). swirling chords combine with a thumping kick, stuttering keys and, of course, a killer vocal wail for a slice of what can only be described as proper house music. >wanna dub with u< opens proceedings on the flip with the kind of thumping bass drum and funk-infused skipping hats that would make it a snug fit in the kerri chandler back catalogue and, again, the vocals are absolutely gorgeous. finally, >rawllin< wraps up the ep on a more stripped back yet equally groovy tip. limited to 500 copies on rather fetching 180g orange vinyl - essential.

mark es >call me< finally gets released via merc this september. ever since its appearance on the mark e beats in space mix nearly a year ago it has remained a must have track and appeared in faiths top 10 tracks of 2010 without seeing the light of day. staying true to an original >house< aesthetic, call me merges a relentless bass line with soaring strings and an organ build de lacey would be proud of, combined with a spoken female vocal this is destined to be a future classic. dixon and tensnake appear for remix duties, dixon turns out a sublime re-work, tightening the feel in true innervisions fashion, whilst tensnake creates a genre defining remix that turns the track on its head and introduces 2 step garage attitude. mark e + dixon + tensnake = huge 12inch !

the topic of >salome< fits the two producers kadebostan and laolu from switzerland perfectly. just listen to their prior releases on freude am tanzen, fenou or clap your hands. the melodies sway back and forth - dreamy and full of peace. the rhythm group plays along and only the most necessary things. and even though the vocal phrases retain their own character, they blend into this musical structure as if they were made for these tracks. the a and the b face show a masterly crafted arrangement. it would be a mistake not to listen to the whole, as one would miss the feeling to let yourself go. as usual, the lovingly designed 10inch record is a limited edition and numbered by hand

serial chart toppers bombstrikes are back again with another ep of club wrecking music. canadian j-roc is at the controls for this one and the end result is a great showcase of how the sould out dj is carving a niche for his own brand of quirky and bass influenced music. also on the ep is a colab with label boss mooqee, so as you would expect from bombstirkes, the pedigree involved is high on this one.

ltd to 100 copies tranparent vinyl editon ... incl s100, pfirter & grindvik, skudge, the rumours aka s. linzatti & p.grindvik, oliver kapp and tom diciccio !! to clarify the meaning of sthlm ltd 022. on sthlm ltd 022 i would like to shed light upon a few artists who, in recent times, inspired me, in one way or another. older ones and new ones. we embark with s100, a cluster of machines and people from stockholm, who share the love of playing live. in addition to the stockholm ensemble we have juan pablo pfirter, a man who brings mad joy to any dancefloor but also constantly seizes the attention of the blog generation. there is also skudge, the swedish duo who with their simple patterns and oldschool vibes made people worship true techno again. as well as staffan linzatti, who is the best studio mate in the world, and oliver kapp, the founder of the labels indulge and raygun. oliver s music has always been a huge source of inspiration for me, so i was proud to invite him to do a remix for stockholm ltd. last but not least tom dicicco, a bass and dub loving youngster from the midlands currently based in manchester, who after a few releases on various labels co founded the great label inner surface. pär grindvik, 2011

the notorious guillaume & the coutu dumonts makes a triumphant return to circus company after last year’s critically acclaimed album, breaking the fourth wall, with 3 deeper than deep (s)explosions sure to become omnipresent fixtures in the sets of damn near any dj with even a shred of good sense in the months to come. >ubiquitous gaze< gets the ball rolling in classic coutu dumont style with a rollicking sea of percussion thankfully populated with a few desert islands of respite in the form of a gorgeously lush string and piano arrangement and the soft meandering monologue of a certain well known musician discussing his craft. b side leader >youre the one< comes on strong with a bouncing d-town bassline and soft stabbing chords that would make kenny larkin proud before rolling out a high stepping lead organ and swinging vocal chops before tying the whole funky mess together with one of his trademark charging conga lines. known for his unbound generosity and proving it here once again, a beatless stringapella of >ubiquitous gaze< closes out the flip in fine style for those inclined to ride this one into a full epic journey territory. yet more proof, as if any were needed, of guillaumes place at the very top of the mountain called house

it seems like hawkinson has drawn his inspiration from the lush crackling whispering of the woods. akiko seems to see it the same way and with her remix makes a compelling overall package of the second 12 inch by phunkit. >unterholz< is a crisp driving, deep techno roller with playful percussion elements, subtle functionally-held choral dubs and a bass line drily humming to itself. >stillleben< crackles bone-dry and elegantly at the same time, the light melodic phrases form a great contrast to the massive wall of bass. akiko is tinkering a little organic dust monster out of >stillleben<. definitely superb how she is breathing her principle of life into the whole theme, so that you almost wish the track would never end.

the zenker brothers grew up in munich, but in 1996 they moved to the countryside and their first adress outside of the bavarian capital was berg 10. shortly after that they got their first dog inti, he smelled like hell, but he was the loveliest dog you can imagine. although it was an intense change and not that easy at the beginning to move from a big city to a village with 5 houses, it was a really important experience for the brothers. and there was so much to discover: the beautiful mountains, lakes and forests, the local football team, the heavy bavarian accent and simply the different mentality on the countryside. all things they would never want to miss, but it was just a question of time to go back to the city. we are proud to present the first record from dario & marco. enjoy!
