well, kat records reach the ripe ol age of 21 with an exactly what it says on the tin release being the giant cuts ep which pays testament to the versatility that s seen the kat label take on board varying styles & ge-nres since its conception back in 2007. this 4 tracker of gargantuan proportions from edit hot shot deadly sins sees both classic and underground cuts getting the royal edit treatment and then some this time, mainly focusing on disco, soul & funk.

afro-space-disco contagion - shuffling and wiggling, synthy and bubbling - from this re-incarnation of willy nfors mighty flames, recruited mostly from the wave of cameroonian musicians drawn to nigeria in the late-1970s by its heavy new funk sound.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

*somebody* is the first single from the new aurra album *body rock* due out later this year on family groove records. once again the world gets to experience a lost disco-funk masterpiece providing another glimpse into the genius mind of slave founding-member steve washington & brides of funkenstein / p-funk singer sheila horne. body rock will be the second and final unearthing of the lost but found master tapes originally recorded for quincy jones qwest imprint in 1984. slap bass, heavy synths, linn drum, sultry vocals... this is modern funk at its finest!
the 24-track master tapes were transferred digitally and then mixed on an ssl board by kamal humphrey at his all-analog flying carpet studios in los angeles. the result is a full sound enhanced by the natural analog process using todays digital technology only when needed to clean up the files.
da-m-funk adds a bit of dirt and grime by putting his signature re-freak on the track. a confirmation from los angeles ambassador of boogie funk that this is in fact the the un-cut funk and nothing but the funk.

mauser hails from chicago, illinois, but his production covers far more ground than chicagos no.1 import, house music. the block sees mauser diving into his many influences, including house, techno, hip hop, drum & bass, soul, and funk. combining tight, funky drum programming with a diggers ear for samples, this diverse ep has a little something for everyone!
