fizic is the next natural step for accomplished techno producer cosmin trg. having released on an influential array of labels in the last few years, the romanian is now branching out on his own with an imprint that will serve as a further extension of himself, his sonic preferences and his interest in artistic imagery.

the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.

now ovo, the eagerly awaited new luca bacchetti ep, is here! with this work on his endless imprint, luca seems to be delineating a new soundscape, maintaining the psychedelia he introduced into his productions a few years ago, but now more synthetic and in some ways even minimalist. in ovo we can find a brace of dancefloor tracks, no gravity and the space between us, that maintain and harness luca s emotional and intricate atmospheres whilst also employing powerful sounds and elements that embrace the movement of the body. mature, emotional techno, where ethereal dream-like atmospheres find a singular expression and their own distinct identity. it is no coincidence that the whole ep was recorded entirely high up in the tosco emiliano apennines: a place where, for luca, nature is the element that most influences this new aural pathway. as he himself states: “it’s this contrast between isolated lands and the chaos of the big city that produces this state of being: a new dialogue. they are two worlds which overlap within my soul: when i’m in new york i think of these mountains and when i’m here i think of the bustle of tour life .. but it’s up here that i find the seed, in this case ovo.”

whoever is behind the ac exp project has clearly worked very hard to ensure their identity remains under wraps, with zilch info out there on the big old internet. which is a shame because theres a degree of class to the two untitled productions on this 10- that demands some recognition. both are unassuming club tools that any deep house selector will appreciate a few hours into their set, all swirling, dubby atmospherics, tunnelling rhythms and snapping percussion.

butane teams up with andras toth for the *elements of truth* ep, set to be released via butanes very own alphahouse imprint. andrew rasse aka butane, launched the alphahouse imprint back in 2005 amidst the minimal explosion, working with the likes of troy pierce and quenum in the early stages. now, looking back on how things have progressed and seeing the imprint reach a thirty-release milestone here, the label has made quite the standing in its time, releasing cuts from luminaries such as skudge, ricardo villalobos and ion ludwig to name a few. here we see andras toth return to the label with the duos second collaborative ep following *futures* back in 2011.

while some of you might think of planet rhythm as one of those old labels from back in the day, it may not necessarily be the correct judgement. not only is it a product of its past achievements, but it is also pushing things forward in the present time, with woo york being one of a few new artists emerging from the imprints recent catalogue. that said, 2014 starts with ukrainian duo taking over planet rhythm headquarters as the labels proprietors and getting in charge of all of its future development. first out of press is the duos own ep highlighting their shift towards brand new, hardware-driven studio setup. from abstract tb-303-ish structures of acid rain, through the building peaks of analogue swamp, a perfect example of stripping functional techno, to come closers uplifting trance-y melodies and the closing sequence of strobe 1, this record is shaping up to be woo yorks strongest release to date.

uk producer ossie has been popping in and out of sight for a few years now, from a solid pair of singles on the always-reliable hyperdub label to his and vocalists paul black and tilzs black orange juice project. on march 31, he steps out again with a new ep for wolf, she knows (that love hurts) heartbeating finds him stepping away from the strains of funky and r&b explored in previous outings to embrace something more approaching straight-up house music.

the 4th eleve release is by pajaro dune, mysterious (but wellknown) duo who offer us four ambient techno killer tracks made with machines. dont sleep on this… only few copies pressed.

following his well received fabric mix comp in december 2013, ben sims returns to his own theory imprint with yet another ring release in the form of *reflection*, which features two original new tracks, a remix from rod and a vinyl exclusive. the eponymous opener is a strident, 909 + 707 driven affair that fuses overlapping, stereoscopic tones to a gently distorted and brutalist groove that sits somewhere between dance mania and detroit. *break glass* is the second original on offer and has been a heavily requested track for the past few months. the perfect partner to *reflection*, *break glass* is similarly overdriven but heavy on the sort of mechanical funk that sims does so well. rods version of *reflection* is a linear assault which ebbs and ows with purpose throughout a linear and intense arrangement while sims remix of *break glass* zeros in on bone rattling percussive aesthetics and vox samples, in much demand after featuring on his fabric mix cd.

an imaginary country continues from the trajectory of tim heckers last album, the critically acclaimed harmony in ultraviolet, while also showing a few new tricks. tim has incorporated more pulses into this work and also works with a sound pallete including overdriven mellotron strings and synthesizer. at times this album is less overtly aggressive than previous works, but the notion that this is pastoral work would be dead wrong as there are plenty of the agitated crescendos that he is know for. this music backs off from the void of immensity in favor of a terrain of lushness and warmth.

blunted astronaut returns to its roots with an upcoming series of 7-inch drops out in the next few months. ghettosocks *everyday apocalypse* b/w *i ll be your dog* is the latest addition to its ever-expanding catalogue of vinyl releases. this translucent 7 inch, produced by dynamic duo the process (jonny cuba and ollie teeba (soundsci/the herbaliser), is bound to be another ba sure shot. rapid-fire flows, clever rhymes, cinematic production... it is all there to keep your head boppin for days. guest appearances by canadas timbuktu and muneshine add weight to this already heavy release.

for its first release of 2014, sammy dees ultrastretch label has called upon monsieur georget. youre forgiven if the name is unfamiliar. his bio offers few clues—he likes his bicycle, vin rouge and analog hardware, the latter of which was apparent on his recent debut for le loup and seuils hold youth label. bold and auspicious, the ep may have left you wondering if it was something more than a first record. and as it turns out, monsieur georget is none other than chris carrier, the long-active french purveyor of hypnotically minimal house.luckily we werent left waiting for very long for more material from carriers new alias. his second release, le vicieu / colle de la bonette, shows that monsieur georget and monsieur dee share an affinity for pared down, wonderfully elastic club tracks. like carriers best work, the compositions themselves are minimalist, but their hardware-based sound pallet ensures theres plenty of meat on the bones. a-side le vicieu is a subtly melodic shuffler, where deep bass growls at the core of an expansive drum set and whispers suffuse the negative space with mystery. on the flipside, colle de la bonette takes the sound someplace stranger and more psychedelic. whatever weird place were whisked off to, though, its every bit as funky, with brittle drums undulating to the kicks deliciously irregular throb. >monsieur georget< might be a brand-new name, but we’re willing to wager you ll quickly get to know these rollers well.

a few words by steffen bennemann: i was in loose contact with aggelos (dream weapons) for a few years, watching him from a distant with great interest. in 2012, he sent me his debut lp on inner ear under his fantastikoi hxoi moniker and it quickly became my favourite album of the year. when i told him our plans for holger he sent me some of his more electronic leaning music. i was instantly captured by the driving, trippy kraut techno songs which show homage to the psychedelic sounds of the 60s and 70s while holding their own in the here and now. exactly our cup of tea.

both tracks have already received support from the likes of audio, black sun empire, ed rush, jade, neonlight, aeph, memtrix & prolix to name but a few.

ushering in a big new year for doc daneekas ten thousand yen is one of the most exciting underground artists to emerge over the last few years. combining a bruk shuffle with a natural flare for techno, presk has been carving out his own subtle niche since 2011. each track on this release stands tall alone, showcasing presks natural leanings, from the raw broken funk hit of *saluki*, the warped techno of *mod1 & rais* to the deft touch of *vigor*. this is presk at his very best, showing whats to come of this exciting producer and marking a very fitting return to the label. with support already from gilles peterson and a prime slot on jackmasters soon-to-become-legendary mastermix 4, saluki is set to be around for a while. don t sleep on this one.
