snuff trax celebrates magic record release number 010: happy jackin birthday! for this little anniversary we asked four great artists to rework chosen tracks from the labels back catalogue. leading us off, mr white (you know him from his collaboration with larry heard) made an edit of snuff crews *are you house*. followed by humandrone from tokyo remixing perseus traxx - *dont feel alone*. on the flipside you hear a remix treatment for raiders of the lost arp - *stealing my love* made by our man takeshi kouzuki of kobe/japan. and last but not least dimdj from thessaloniki created his own version of *galaxian journey* by elec pt.1.

miami ice (whos previous releases include tracks on the mighty lost my dog) makes his debut on freche fruchte recordings with two sublime original deep house tracks that will be sure to grace many in the know dancefloors with their mixture of late-night raw and emotional vibes. to add to the package remixes are provided by two very talented artists pete dafeet and leigh d oliver

nelistening back, �interlude� will feel like the perfect opening to �skylax�. a jazzy encore crawls in, morphing into a skippy hip-hop instrumental with jason�s signature flourishes all over it. aptly named as it is, this is the breathing space between whatever came before in your day, and the eleven deep house gems that are to follow. speaking of, �the love� will have you gripped from the first bar. it glides the listener in, then subtly drops that signature, tightly-tuned bassline of jason�s and continues onto soulful vocals from there. �old dayz� touches on a bit of a nostalgic note. the spoken vox cuts harken back to 90s hip-hop joints, playing over a looped latin sample-led beat. from there, �rawkicks 2� shows jason�s rough and ready sampling style in action. a seemingly simple track, but one which has that special something which guarantees to keep people on the floor moving for its duration. �cut b� contrasts this nicely, being a much cleaner production with tight drum programming and synth work. that said, it still has the classic jg atmosphere we love. closing out the first half of the album, �definition� slows the pace ever so slightly, with its eternal pad structure that builds up the track�s momentum into something very mellow and deep.bringing in the second half of �skylax�, �john blue� takes things back a notch further. a deeper tune, yet one that shows off an uncharacteristically punchy bass hit from jason. �last night� is a track more reminiscent of jason�s first lost cuts ep on wax classic, sounding as if it had been freshly taken off an old tape with its sample-led beat and background hiss. the last four tracks of the album see a return to the �mastercuts� and �lovedits� series which fans will recognize from the �lost cuts� records, with �lovedits 7� and �mastercut 5� respectively. the former is a laid back female vocal edit with the entire suite of signature jg touches while the latter is a garage house hit more crafted for the club. �bb� brings the album to a close, twisting a disco/funksample over a pallet of drums and effects for the near six-minute duration of the track.all in all, this is the perfect follow up to jason�s debut album �313.4.ever�, with tracks for both the club and home listening. if you happened to miss the first album back in 2012, don�t forget that now you have the chance to grab it in a special double pack with �skylax� on cd!so, needless to say, this timeless record is a must purchase for all collectors and djs out there

little is known about mysterious producer tommy rawson. our first acquaintance was the aptly named shy track on red rackems smugglers inn 001 release. we tried to find out more but the trail got cold pretty quick. it was not until hearing gilles peterson playing a version of hugh masekelas dont go lose it baby on his show that word got around, tommy rawson was back. this particular anthemic track found its way to mats who then started playing it out and every time, in every club no matter where in the world the reaction was same, people completely lost it on the dance floor! we had but no choice to release the track and luckily enought tommy must have a sixth sense because at the same time mats blasted the track at the local talk office to convince tooli shouting: this is the next big release for local talk, i m telling you! another track made it into his mailbox, the soulful house jam brenda done died with no name. both tracks ended up on this 12 inch of course. mr rawson has delivered the goods here, warm, sunsplashed music all the way. a name to watch for this year and probably not mysterious for long.

next up on local talk we got a raw peak hour jam from liverpool producer dale howard (lost my dog, large, morris/audio, off rec). there is nothing light or fluffy about these tracks, its just dirty straight up house music with a dark 90s basement feel. for the main track we actually chose the dub version of throwback over of the original mix. we just thought this version was soooo freakin raw even though its more stripped than the original version. you�ll see what we mean when you drop it in the club! the second track in out goes along the same house theories as throwback with jackin beats and deep chords that will do wonders in any authentic house basement. all in all, a might fine release of classic local talk house music. enjoy!

magic feet introduce three new artists on their first label sampler, as well as a remix from label owner craig bratley. the tracks cover various genres, taking their inspiration from house, italo, new beat and disco. first up is paresse, an alias of swedish producer ivan bergren. *the night before you came* is a hypnotic, evolving slice of future disco. craig bratleys remix shows craig indulging in his obsession with the world of analogue synths and sees the track taking in a deeper and darker direction. craig has also had a hand in editing *lost era* by kepier on the flipside, a track with a direct lineage to the belgian new beat sound. to round off the ep, we have soul tension, an alias of tony beardsley, who also produces as dark strands. *suburban life* is a superb take on the slo-mo techno sound.

these redux releases are like buses, we dont hear anything for ages then they hit us with three killer eps in a row. following the grand corporation and machete savane comes the return of phoreski. we have not heard much from phoreski for a little while, but you will soon hear why when you put the needle to the record on these two new tracks. he has been busily building up his studio into an enviable aladdins den of vintage kit, wires and analogue recording equipment. all synths and vocals you hear on these tracks come from phoreski, no samples, no guests, no edits. he has been hinting at this raw, analogue authentic sound for a while, but these tracks showcase a producer at one with the machines. >brown biscuits< comes across like some lost italo/cosmic gem, but via the north east of england rather than the lakes of italy. >machines< flexes tight proto-house rhythms with some bass that will make mince meat of lesser club soundsystems whilst the feuding synth lines fight for attention. this is proper body music, play loud!

romes egisto sopor has been making little waves with his releases for quite a while now. since we have known him he has released a cdr album on legowelts strange life records and put a cassette out on the much admired 100% silk label, both under the name polysick. as theawayteam he has released a dvd >relax & sleep< and a cd >star kinship< on japanese label moamoo. he is also one half of the low key video unit aavv, whose work has graced many of the important releases of new lofi electronic movement.
well, here is his first album proper >digital native<, 15 tracks of glowing, nocturnal, analogue grace that hark back to acid house and early techno, but with a mood and intent that seems to be designed for watching images dance on closed eyelids. it is no surprise that his work as a video artist resonates so strongly with the music he makes.

march sees the formidable hypercolour deliver its most surprising output yet, an ep from none other than groove armada. tom findlay and andy cato need little introduction as groove armada. chart smashes, huge live tours and being part of the worldwide electronic music history aside, the duo have never lost touch with their acid house roots and have continued to be devoted to record buying, djing and the much maligned promo trawl. tom and andy have been avid followers of the label it seemed, since its inception. it was through label head jamie, meeting the guys back in 2010 at space in ibiza, and then continued communication via hypercolour promos, that led to an out-of-the-blue email requesting an informal hook up in east london and, within just a few days, a release was scheduled. that release is the >no knock ep<, four tracks that range from 808 fuelled old school cuts to low slung, moog-bassd electronic funk. each sound is lovingly crafted but there is an analog rawness throughout and every track has the sort of tweaked, off-kilter and occasionally awkward vibe that hypercolour do so well. it just takes a bit of imagination to guess what a ga release on hypercolour should sound but failing that, just check the release out as it wont disappoint.

>i dont have any plans, i just make music for fun< said the latest addition to the hypercolour roster, christopher rau, in a recent interview. the hamburg house don is not wrong, either, with his deep and non-linear sounds leading the way on labels like smallville and pampa. here teaming up with friend tilman tausendfreund, the pair turns in one effort each, plus two collaborative tracks on their pea gravel ep.

black waves is 4 tracks of deep, dark club music. since the release of his critically acclaimed album >generation hexed<, drums of death has been obsessively developing a deeper and darker sound that is tailored for the dance-floor. black waves fuses frantic 808 drum patterns and dramatic synth lines with fresh, contemplative melodies. its music born out of its makers passion for techno and house.

sebastian russell is one of the most exciting discoveries on mos ferrys decent 10inch label fenou. after his first single release >away< from 2009 the london producer chipped in a remix for dapayks >decade one< album and he also contributed the fantastic piece >follow the lost soul< for the >fenou bouquet vol. 1< label compilation in late 2010. now, he returns with the beautiful 2-track record >far around us< showing his eccentric as well as catchy interpretation of modern house music. the release is extended by three more tracks in the digital bundle including a hypnotizing remix of the title track by alex tomb. as usual, the 10inch record is a limited edition and numbered by hand.

peters love of obscure disco and house shows in this solo album - wide ranging influences have gone into the musical hot-pot. take the slo-mo lazy groove of lead track and opener love is the key . this sets the sonic palette, laid back, underground and understated (but cucumber cool) throughout. deliberately absent are the commercial and pseudo-poppy sounds from the visti and meyland 2010 debut. this record is a club affair, less in your face and more all around you . for example lost in space is one part elastic groove, one part melodious, enveloping ambience and one part progressive disco groove. tracks such as i m out the door , bubble bubble and drinking in darkness are more direct, straight dance floor booty-shaking grooves. as is what you would expect from the man who has dj stamped firmly into his dna.

desolat is proud to present a release where veterans meet manon aka manon maeder has been part of the swiss techno and house scene since the early nineties. starting with illegal parties in bern, later involvement in legendary early days afterhours at the >oxa� in zurich, followed by first productions in 1996, residency at >hive< club and her involvement with the >vision< festival, manon is today probably more thrilling than ever before. for desolat, she delivers remarkable tracks that sound like a sonic snapshot of a balearic sunset. pat carnal speaks about manon getting lost in brasil 20 years ago and the conversation was recorded at one >formbar< afterhour. guitar virtuoso mats küpfer added his part at studio willeneger in bern. we d like to tell you more about >que cara é essa� but its probably better to listen to the music. first remix comes from another veteran and one of our heroes, stacey pullen, a kosmik messenger and an innovator from the second wave of detroit techno. he takes vocal snippets from the original and wraps them up in his trademark percussive, driving, stripped down sound. second remix comes from desolats own tini representing a new generation of electronic music talents. she turns manons original in a dark claustrophobic shaker that will gently take you by the hand and stay on your side until the next sunrise

never losing the musics immediate physicalness out of sight, the driving, bass-heavy energy of alex picones tracks set club floors on fire. still in his twenties, hes been a dj for fifteen years. having never aimed at quick fame, his career is exemplary in its endurance and commitment: he hosted parties in his hometown of padua and became resident at seminal italian clubs. after a stopover on ibiza he now resides in berlin. alex picones first record under his real name is also his first release on cadenza and his most successful so far. the three tracks of fahrenheit tie in with the overboiling force of floppy and furby. while the rattling snaredrum adds a humorous touch, the uplifting groove of inside out pushes on the limits of the energy levels of contemporary house music. yet the heart of the track is the relentless bassline, which liquefy ones body and melds the crowd and the whole club in one torrential stream of tension. with lost in burning man, alex picone fuses an oldschool electro groove in his house beats. this unexpected encounter might remind one of kevin saundersons hiphouse sound. but instead of indulging in nostalgia, the breakbeats add a provoking, startling touch to the track. with the rotary bassline and the playful jaws harp of mandarin, the ep ends on a comical note. alex picones second cadenza is a challenge to a certain house sound that became too accommodating and glossy. his musics driving force pushes the crowd beyond the threshold of the established into a space of limitless indulgence
